1. Character models. Pc and npcs look like plastic dolls. Not nearly as good as vanilla Skyrim and those were bad enough.

2. Animations. They have barely improved at all from previous Fallouts. The movement animations for the power armor were especially hilarious.

3. Braindead AI. For example the player walked right next to a raider who was shooting at a different target. No reaction. Player went away and wandered around the building for minutes until the enemy finally noticed him and attacked. Hell, initially I though the raider had just been a friendly npc.

4. Dialogue. Hmm, how to best explain that...

                                                                     Y: Minigun?

                                         X: Sarcastic                                     B: Yes

                                                                     A: No

5. World looked quite empty. Player walked for quite a while and encountered only one small random enemy. Could be because of the area in question though. Mind you, I've also watched a guy sprint from one edge of the map to the other and he was attacked only about 3 times.

6. Overall the game failed to impress. Hard. A step back from Skyrim in many areas I'd say. There were a few interesting gimmicks like the power armor but the game didn't seem like a late 2015 title at all. More like 2010 or something. Obviously I only saw someone else play it for a limited amount of time so keep that in mind. It might still end up being good.

This is why a voiced protag is a bad idea in those games. I provide the voice for my character, just give me the dialogue choices. Sounds like a huge step back from FO:NV.

I can't wait for the eventual "Feedback... be more like Fallout 4"

There are several major letdowns in FO4 from "player experiences" with leaked copy.

The simplified PC/NPC interaction options and horriable quests design  really hurts a lot. From technical perspectives, FO4 is not ground breaking either.

Spoiler

In all, I pre-ordered FO4 for mods and sandbox adventure but not expect a RPG with TW3 level of quality.

It'll be interesting to see how Bethesda handles the pressure if Fallout 4 somehow flops. I am still expecting it to sell well day 1, but if it doesn't over time and the reviews are not as great as they are hoping for we could have a special situation incoming. Every great developer out there makes a bad game atleast one time. But we should probably get back on topic?

All Bethesda games I brought have flops (except Morrowind) in vanilla stage. It is part of Bethesda's signature right now. IMHO, Skyrim's success is 20% due to Bethesda but 80% to modding community behind that game.

The success (or lack of success) of Fallout is actually quite relevant to the topic. DAI aside it's the only real somewhat current competitor to TW3 as an open world RPG. It doesn't matter if people like the fact or not but the "winner" will most likely have a bigger influence on DA4 that the other. Quest design, protagonist, world building, npcs. But yes, more focus on The Witcher would be good.

It would appear that those playing on consoles could disagree:

Skryim Sales By Platform

XBox 360 59 %

Playstation 3 27 %

If they had expanded on game mechanics more and had better writing in the main story, I'd agree. But as it stands, they clearly had problems integrating the main quest in an open world format. I'm still surprised they decided to go with stock fantasy cliches like the Wild Hunt and Ciri. Yes, Sapkowski did it, but he's a master at subverting tropes and CDPR's writers aren't as good at it. I like Ciri, and I'm glad they included her, but if they hadn't included the Wild Hunt at all and focused on the Nilfgardian invasion instead, the main story would be much better.

Unless those numbers are directly from Bethesda they are irrelevant as Steam doesn't reveal sales numbers to anyone but them. That's almost always the problem when someone pulls out % numbers for any steam game - they only cover PC physical copies. The platform has been mostly digital for years.

Honestly the Wild Hunt had great potential to make great foes against Geralt and Ciri.

Yet the writers really did a poor job. Imlerith, Caranthir and Eredin were so bloody lackluster and one dimensional, it's crazy. It was especially surprising considering how great an antagonist Letho was in Witcher 2. Something went wrong somewhere. DA:I and Witcher 3 definitely share the same problem of having very weak antagonists.

I agree though, I personally would've been more interested in focusing on the war between the North and Nilfgaard.

20 million units total would mean 2,8 million pc ones. The most popular mod has over 5 million unique downloads from a single site and I doubt even a fifth of pc users even know how to use mods in their games. See the issue? I'm not saying you couldn't be right but the numbers feel way off here, especially when Skyrim is still a huge seller on Steam even after these 4 years.

Agree, even in the books Wild Hunt has much complexity than in TW3. But what surprised me most is the way CDPR's  interpretation of the White Frost. I did not expect they are ballsy enough to let Ciri beat entropy in the face. And they should introduce Yenna since TW1 instead of that traitor. But over all TW3 is still my top 5 RPGs of all time.

Does that include having to re-download the same mod due to needed/ desired upgrades? Personally have had to DL the Unofficial mods many times, as well as SMIM and others.

I have never been into the Fallout series (loved TES series), but this new one caught my eye and a friend offered to get it for me Christmas. Now, I am getting a little worried about it reading this thread. I hope I like it.

Also, I really liked the main quest in TW3. I thought it was well written and well implemented. Though, to each his own.

The chase for Ciri is really great and gratifying, especially when doing the sidequests that branch out, and the battle of Kaer Morhen is excellent. But any further interaction with the Wild Hunt (the little there is) goes from mediocre to bad.

Still a fabulous game though, no question about it.

I pretty much agree. Not that I'd complain if they expanded on it either
Spoiler

That cut quest where Geralt infiltrates the Wild Hunt could have been cool though, but not too be.

Don't worry, if you like the TES series you are gonna get into Bethesda's take on Fallout quite well. There is usually just alot of hate around Bethesda releases, atleast when its Fallout since they didn't own the IP originally. Alot of the old fanbase don't like the new Fallout and they are quite vocal about it. Almost makes it impossible to visit any forum, youtube or any other social media around release, sigh.

I think I might be the only person in bsn who is not going to play Fallout. Looks nice but xmas is coming and need to save for gifts and holiday. After the a pretty large chunk of dosh buying new pc for TW3, I'm just wiped. I'm glad I bought TW seasons pass and saved a bit. Andromeda is my next big game purchase. I HOPE they announce something soon.

You most likely wont be. I dont think I will be playing Fallout 4 as well... at least not this year due to crazy deadlines forced upon me by suit monkeys. Maybe I will find time to shoot some zombies in *gasp* CoD Black Ops III *gasp*. Hope I have time to mod them zombies into my project manager's face.... Would surly improve my aim and get more head shots.

That's encouraging, thanks. I am really interested in having a voiced protagonist. I know that sounds weird coming from a deaf person, but my main form of communication is lip reading, so when my character is just mute, it feels really lifeless and unnatural to me. I also like the aspect of creating your "partner" and the like. I always disliked the whole pip boy thing and the VAT system, but I am hoping that the other good things will balance that out.

There is a lot of truth to what you say, I remember the hate around Skyrim's release and people still seem to either love it, or hate it.

No problem. Oh i didn't know you were deaf, not sure what to say. I am sorry, it must suck. If i am out of line feel free to smack me hard or ignore me. Well from what i've seen so far the third-person cinematic view is alot like TW3, and thats a good thing. One of things i really did enjoy in The Witcher 3 was the camera work in conversations, almost perfect. I think V.A.T.S has become more of a playstyle you choose talents for and not just use in any playstyle, which is a good thing aswell. All in all it is shaping up to be a pretty interesting game. Atleast i am hyped!

Don't be silly, you didn't say anything out of line, at all. I have mentioned it previously, so I just assumed most knew, the fault is mine.

I must admit that I haven't seen a tremendous amount of footage and gameplay. I saw a few things and upon finding out I was getting it in December, I stopped watching a lot of media on it, as not to get spoiled. My hype is not full blown, but I am excited to try something new.

You're too kind. And yes probably best to stay off everything related to Fallout the next month or so.
