Witcher 4 is coming ! Geralt pal, we shall meet again!

Not set in stone, but yes it could happen. Only a fool would let that franchise die out after such good sales etc.
You know that would not happen before Cyberpunk 2077 right? Nobody knows how long they are going to take to make Cyberpunk 2077 and since they are aiming not only for GOTY with their next game but sales records as well. I bet it will be at least 3 years before we see Cyberpunk 2077.
We shall meet perhaps in the year 2020... that is if we are optimistic ![]()
Yeah TW4 or whatever it will be called is probably out around 2022 or something. Cya then!

I'm not expected CDPR will deliver TW4 any time sooner than 2021 or so. Given their product quality control and attention to details. TW3 supposed to be released around 2014 but what a mess that will be.
Well, even if they do eventually make a new Witcher, they've said numerous times that Geralt's story ended with 3 so I doubt he'll be back.
Maybe Ciri? I know some people in this thread would love that ![]()

The only way I could see a continuation is if they pull a ME:A and have the next game(s) take place at a distance from the characters and locations we've known from the current games. Much as I hate to compare the two, TW3 and ME3 had similar endings in that they diverge so wildly from each other that I can't see a direct sequel doing justice to acknowledging our choices.
Does anyone know whether Sapkowski gave the license to use his work indefinitely, or only for three games, or what? The three Witcher games were like alternate universe epilogues for his work, I think any new games would be further down the rabbit hole and further from his actual writing.
Unrelated, but I googled Sapkowski in order to spell his name. How adorable is he? I wish he had been my Polish grandfather instead of the one I got lol

Or they could make prequels - like The Dawn of The Witchers or Adventures of the Yong Vesemir

It would be cool if they switched to some of the other Witcher schools like the Griffin or Bear schools. Maybe the surviving witchers from those schools traveled to the lesser known countries like Olfieri or Zarrakanea (I know I spell those both incorrectly)
Heck, they could then opt to have us create our own witcher PC rather than stay with a set Geralt, so we could be male or female and customize them. Since those witcher schools aren't found in the books, anyway, why not go further and allow more malleability of the source text?

Female Witcher... Witcheress... was there ever one
who undergo the mutation process.
But a prequel would allow us to play a customizable Wicher in the golden era of the Witcher and maybe select a school ![]()

I know the book lore says that female witchers don't exist, I'm not sure if it's impossible or just no one wanted to try. But if it's in the golden age as you suggest, the mutagen knowledge would be better, right? So the limitations of decaying Kaer Morhen could be ignored and a process to create female witchers could still be an option.

My hazy understanding is that the correct formulae for those decoctions are among the knowledge that has been lost to the ages, but I could be wrong, and I have no doubt that one of the OG super fans will correct me on that count. My concrete assertion is that it doesn't matter, because the games =/= the books.
Besides, Ciri is (potentially) basically a witcher. She's just a magic witcher as opposed to a mutant witcher.

By Golden Age I think he meant that Witchers were numerous, instead of the rarities they are now. Also the mutagen were made specifically for males, so no doubt using it on a female would result in some ugly, malformed creature, that I'm sure no would enjoy playing as.

Hideous.
Spoiler
Hideous.
Um?
Um?
As mutants, witchers in general are supposed to be pretty ugly, right? And Geralt in particular is a pretty loathsome looking albino? When game Geralt, at least after the first game, is just so darn handsome that people are resorting to "lore appropriate" mods to make him all weird again.
I suspect that this particular creative liberty taken by CDPR would remain in effect in future games, especially if they implement a CC, is all.

Well, I don't think they're suppose to be ugly. just albino with weird eyes. CDPR made him look a bit too human and so people are modding him to be an Albino with weird eyes again, not making him ugly. Not sure what this has to do with what I said though.

I guess I thought that's what you were saying.
Otherwise, I think it's just the age old argument of whether it's an insurmountable obstacle to let you create a female witcher (which, if they make a custom protagonist game where you play as a witcher, they'd have to) - I don't think it is - and how much you have to fawn over the source material - which... I really don't think you need to, especially when you have CDPR's particular interpretation of the material as Exhibit A of "We got this."

I was trying to say that if they ever do a Witcher game with CC in the past that they can't have female Witchers, as the books are canon to the games. It's a possibility in the future and if given the choice I'd make a female Witcher myself, but they'd have to give a pretty good reasons as to why new Witchers even exist, female Witchers at that.
Well, Geralt is the only albino witcher, right? Because he took so well to the mutagens that they pushed the envelope and gave him more, which caused him to lose pigmentation. So it's not that all witchers are albinos or doomed to hideousness. And Geralt seems to exude some sort of magnetic charm regardless of looks, at least in the short story collections I've read so far.
What I am thinking with the Golden Age of witchers is that the formulae for mutation are intact, so they have a better knowledge of the process. Correct me if I'm wrong, and maybe this is only from TW1 and not the books, but I thought most of the information on how to create witchers was lost/destroyed, so no new witchers can be created. So presumably, if all of the information was still extant, they could alter the formulae to accommodate female physiology.
It seemed to me more like "men are tougher than women, so if only a small percentage of males survive the process, let's not even try adapting for females" rather than it was impossible for a new method to be created specifically for female witchers. And even if not, I think CDP is smart enough to realize that if they allow for customizable PCs for a new game, they had better include gender options.

Yeah, the men are tougher than women thing is correct It's also because, as far as I know, there was never a shortage of Witchers, so developing/adapting a mutagen for females would have been a complete waste of time.

If selecting such options in TW4 were possible, I would be OK with male Witchers having mutant powers, and female having greater access to magic. Of course, it will not matter if the game remains a full Action title.
Broadly speaking, that's probably not universally applicable, because Ciri is speshul. But I see what you're saying.
However, the handwaving (if it can even be called that) required for them to find or engineer the appropriate decoctions for women would seems like it would be minuscule. It could be as simple as "oh, it was developed/discovered at some school somewhere else."

Why?
Why?
Because the outrage of fans who say female witchers destroy the book lore would be less than the gamers willing to buy a game that allows them to play as male or female. It's one thing to have a fixed PC, it's another to allow customizable PCs, but keep them as male only.
