I think my biggest issue with elves and humans in DA is that they aren't dwarves.
Whew, am I glad of it!

They're just poser humans in DAI.
Let me back up a bit though. They're the only secular and/or criminal background for a rogue in DAI (wait, there's Qunari too..which isn't much better). They are part of the escapee dusters from Orzammar. They have one of the most insular cultures, yet they are masters of humanity suddenly in this game. Whether it's in their social skills..or career of surface criminality.. or the wider issues of religion the game is based on. Or even the dancing with Celene. They're just good at everything human like they were born that way (it's also why I hate Iron Bull btw).
But what annoys me the most is that in the process of making them so human, they snuff out the human fans who want to play a character like that. The human background is basically Sebastian. Which is like the most INHUMAN of humans. Few were lining up to play anything close to this. Definitely not rogue fans. People who play rogues want a little more worldliness in their character's history. But we get the **** end of the stick. While everything else is more humanized.

I do like the dwarves, but probably my all time favorite fantasy race is the Lythari from the Forgotten Realms. They were elves who could turn into these great big silver wolves. I'll give you three guesses why I like them and the first two don't count. ![]()
I love dwarves in my fantasy world, but I don't want to play them myself. My fem dorf noble never got out of Ostagar.

I like them a bit more in Origins. At least they were dwarves with a unique area and not something that imitates humans and meddle in human matters. While the Warden mission itself is very neutral. All of this buildup in DA2/Asunder/Masked Empire... just to be hijacked by sheer tackiness in the end.
DAI's human background is limiting to the point that even Gaider told me to just make up my own. lol. That's what it's come to. Where he doesn't even have conviction in it himself.
There isn't much to me in real life, so I love playing a tall person in games. I know it sounds shallow and it most likely is--but I cannot stand playing a short person, unless playing a kid.
Not to mention, there is something off-putting about a dwarf, imo. Something about those longish arms in relation to the legs. It's too out of proportion for my liking. Though, I adore Varric and Lace Harding.
Yeah, it's kind of ape-ish.
As for real life reasons. Well, I'm tall in real life.. I don't shoot downwards. The whole point of fantasy is to be even cooler. Not worse. ![]()

Yes lol.
The only body type that represents me in real life is maybe Ellie from The Last of Us. I want to be Lara Croft.
I don't know any game characters built like me. Maybe Liam Neeson if there are Star Wars games with him. Somewhere between male humans and female Qunari, I guess.
Is there any difference from simulating a save or importing one? Going to play The Witcher 3 again, but not sure i wanna go through the first two again, yet. I did that prior to the release of TW3. Still i want my save!
You'll have to forgive Essenthy for being so grandiose...but STLM 2 seems to be finished.
For myself, Dwarves are more about personalities than appearances. One of my favorite examples is using Hamish and his father from Braveheart as examples of Dwarven behavior from the bravado to the shy social skills. "That'll wake you up in the mornin', boy!".
Except Hamish is human too. ![]()

My point. While these are human characters, their behavior is exemplary Dwarven in nature.
It's just an idea ripped off from one writer.... that other fantasy writers seemingly can't escape.

You know them. Gruff, practical, industrious, stout, gold-loving, blunt-speaking, Scottish-accented, Viking-helmed, booze-swilling, Elf-hating, ax-swinging, long-bearded, stolid and unimaginative, boastful of their battle prowess and their vast echoing underground halls and mainly just the fact that they are Dwarves. Ever since Tolkien did his thing with some modified Norse myths, the Dwarves have been rolling off the assembly line as the same basic model.
What annoys me though is that dwarf fans aren't happy with already borrowing some human ideas (like Scots). They now have to rip off other typical human behavior in DAI. Nothing's ever good enough. Dwarf fans just want to be human.. but have a desire to look like ****. For some reason.

I see people linking that tvtropes thing alot lately. So what exactly is it? I never think of original ideas or anything like that, if i am invested in something i go full lore.

It's just sort of a comedic encyclopedia of oft-used themes in media.
There isn't necessarily a lore about dwarves though. There's just Tolkien's shadow...and people who want to be the next Tolkien.

Ah, i never really break down stuff like that. But after seeing alot of movies, tv series, reading books and playing games, some patterns start to emerge. Its getting me confused more than anything else. I am tired of beeing invested in so much. First world problems, eh?
No difference.
Just one small difference actually. If you get a certain tattoo in Witcher 2, it will transfer to Witcher 3.
That's it though.

Ah, the Roche path? I would never choose that anyway. Damn you Vernon!

But...but Broche =,(
Actually you get the tattoo before starting chapter 2 so you might be able to get it and then take Iorveth's path. Not sure though.

I suppose it is first world problems. ![]()
It's just literary criticism though.. and archetypes. Or at worst, stereotypes.
I think it can be important though. Formulas suppress imagination. Be it stories, music, or cooking. Sometimes the formula is tasty too.. just not after a thousand times.

But the Roche path is the only path! ![]()
