Betheda shot their feet in FO4. The dumb down open world shooter has pissed off majority of hard core Fallout RPG fans while shooter crowd already have too many choices. The success of TW3 really highlights the market for an epic fantasy RPG. Hopefully it will inspire other creative developers like Obsidian in future.
Yeah, I finally finished my first playthrough the other day. Initially I was enjoying it quite a bit. But the more the game wore on, the more I was thinking to myself, holy crap didn't I just do this same mission like five minutes ago? And I am not speaking of the sorts of missions where say the Brotherhood of Steel sends you to clear a place out. I am speaking on the majority of the main side missions and main story missions. There were a few that I liked, Silver Shroud and Covenant, but most of them just felt really repetitive. And the RPG elements of the game were seriously bare bones. I have never played the original 2 games, but the way fans of those games say that the RPG elements were stripped down between 2 and 3, I feel they were just as stripped between 3 and 4. I really didn't get to make more than a couple choices throughout the game it felt like and they were not very interesting choices.
Story I felt was pretty weak, which is a shame because there was potential for a really good story there I feel, because it had a pretty neat twist. It was one that I sorta saw coming because of the nature of cryogenics, but a good twist all the same. The ending was a real disappointment. I went with the Railroad, and then I saw my friend who went with the Institute finish it, and the endings really didn't seem all that different to me.
Even she was disappointed in the game and she is a whole lot less picky than I am.
I couldn't really get into the settlement building to be honest because I didn't feel that there was enough variety there to keep me engaged in building things. There is only like one type of wall that I liked, and after building several houses with it it started to look dull. They could have at least let us paint the houses or something. It's a cool idea, there's just not enough there for me personally. Not after having played games like Minecraft and even Terraria. Now, I am not expecting that level of building of course, but more than what there was would have been nice. I tried, I really tried to get into the settlement building, I just couldn't do it. Maybe in DLC we will get more options.
Ehh, I'll get around to another playthrough, but probably only to clean up a couple of trophies, and I might very well wait for the first DLC for that. All in all, I wish I had waited until this game came down in price to around $30-$40.
