The counter argument would be: It is my opinion that [game] does not deserve to be GOTY. Telling me otherwise would be telling me that my opinion (however absurd) is wrong.

Okay, seriously. I sense a lot of insecure people. Why are you so concern about other people's opinion about what game should be GOTY? Why do you feel threaten when the majority hail a game GOTY (happens every year btw)? Why do you feel that your opinion is being undermined when you are not the majority?

Cut the BS about "Oh I dont care." If you dont, you wont be bickering about others bickering. -_-

You could be one who enjoy "talking about what you enjoy the most" the most. That too is perfectly fine. Bickering and arguing can be fun. No shame in enjoying that too.  :P

So, while I enjoy reading all this - lets not turn this thread into a mud slinging arena for it may end up badly

:P oh fine you. Seriously though agreed the salt because god forbid someone doesn't like a game you like is baffling. It'd be one thing if they were spamming game forums of other games then yeah I could see the Bugger off claws coming out but otherwise meh.

I wish we could have a f4 thread. I mean we turned the KISA into half one but still. I wanna be able to geek about my epic house mods :(

Gamers care about GOTY awards because it justifies their opinion of the game. There are like minded people who agree partially with their word view of gaming. I have no problem with gamers disagreeing about a choice for GOTY. Every one has their own taste when it comes to games.

I believe that TW3 deserves all the awards that it won. I also believe that DA: Inquisition also deserved all the awards it won.

I find it interesting that DAI gets derided because of the lack of competition in 2014. How is that Bioware/EA's fault? Gamers are going if DAI had released in 2015 it would not have won as many awards. If TW3 or (insert other game) had released in 2014 DAI would have more competition.

None of that matters because for what ever reason TW3 was pushed back to March 2015. The award givers and voters (for people choice awards) found the competition lacking so Inquisition won in 2014 .

I can agree or disagree with that assessment. I happen to agree so that justifies and validates my opinion which brings me back to the first statement.

For developers GOTY awards are a selling point and recognition for their hard work.

For investors GOTY awards are feathers in the cap especially if the game performs well financially otherwise not so much.

No i do not, because personally after having beaten the game twice i don't see what the others of you are seeing. It's a decent Action-RPG, but its not groundbreaking, it didn't set a new standard in storytelling, or gameplay, or exploration etc. Its just a well polished overhyped and overrated game, in my eyes. But you know what? That's ok. I am not required to like the game for you to like it. And i am clearly in the minority, i just don't find the game that interesting.

I will say this though, most Witcher 3 fanboys made 2015 a very rotten gaming year on Facebook, forums etc. Not talking about anyone here, but out there. I have never seen so many people overzealous about something and shooting others down because they do not share their opinion on something. Eurogamer named Bloodborne their game of the year and the comment section was littered with The Witcher 3 propaganda, and people trying to shame Eurogamer for their pick.

This might not make sense at all, but its my take on The Witcher 3 and all the praise it has been getting. I feel like i made a mistake by posting this, but its probably the last thing i'll say on the game and run off to the Andromeda forums now.

With a small EDIT you could read my post as this - Does it matter to you what i think about the praise this game has been given? You obviously love the game and that is all that matters, and i envy you.

I agree. Your opinion of the game matches mine. At least i'm not alone in this. One question, though. Have you played Hearts of Stone and if so, would you recommend it?

HoS is some the studio's best work. Better story telling than the main quest line.

No, it should've gotten zero. There is nothing in TW3 that deserves an award.

HoS could might aswell be it's own standalone game, it's that good.

It also has one of the best villains ever who makes Wild Hunt eat his own ****.

Hearts of Stone is really good, yes. So good that i was even more dissapointed in the base game. So you should buy it and play it.

And there goes any shreds of respect I had left for gaming awards. TW3 doesn't deserve a single one.

Why doesn't The Witcher 3 deserve any awards? What did you think was wrong with the game?

I dont know...

Maybe but one must not forget Skyrim did not face as many competition back then. Back in 2011/2012, Skyrim is no doubt the best overall open world sandbox rpg. Even though many (myself included) shouted dumb-down / streamlined - overall there was nothing out there that could compare. Skyrim is basically Fallout 4 with lower resolution texture and lesser lighting effects. It was impressive as hell back then.

2015 on the other hand, games are going open world on epic scales. TW3, FO4 and MGSV the major contenders will all win some critics and fans over and hence the vote maybe diluted.

While there might be competition for GOTY of 2015, I dont think I have heard any objection to CDPR being the Best Developer/Studio of 2015.

Also, Konami also annihilate its competition for the Worst Company 2015 and I think none will object to that too.

2015 was a great year for gamers and gaming. I hope the industry will have more "CDPR" and less "Konami" in the future.

MGSV yes but FO4 is really not competition for TW3.  I havn't seen FO4 on anyone's best games list yet.  Not anyone that I would trust at least.  And well...it shouldn't be.

Long story short, (again).  The game is every bit "Game of the Year" and whatnot, you just need to adjust your mentality a bit.

QFT, the salty responses for TW3's success are really amazing and laughable.

Prewar house mods? :P

I am kinda staying away from mods until Bethesda stabilizes the game. I am guessing they forcefully disable mod support in their last update for a reason and that reason could be that future updates could break current mods. I am only using an outfit mod and if that mod breaks, I lose only my outfit I hope. Will cry if I lose my epic collection of power armor I spent 100+ hours robbing the BoS for

A year from now things should be much better. I hope the japs will make mobile suit gundam mods for power armor. I want power armor mods

Nah I fix it up so it doesn't look completely trashy but prewar just ruins it for me. (That said something I built shouldn't have holes all over the place FFS)

Oh I fully expect some of my mods to break completely. Thankfully most of the house stuff I use is pretty popular and the author's are pretty good at updating so I'm not too concerned about it.

Oh god yes. Also a Alphonse skin of power armor would be beaut.

No. It does not matter to me one bit. As I said DAO is still my favorite of all DA and I will defend it to death even if it's dated in the eyes of the many.

Just funny that you attribute TW3's success to the hype culture. If that is the case FO4 should have distroyed the game clean. It is the most overhyped game ever. To the extent that big sites like rooster teeth attacking Jeff from Giantbomb for giving it 3 stars while they are wearing their pipboys on their arms. And saying that he did it to gain attention that he does not even need. Not to mention the fanbase already declared it goty even before it's releases because it's bethesda.

Also critics rating does not matter to me much, but the reader's choice does. And considering the witcher does not have a lot of fan base pre TW3 unlike FO and MSG, ( looking at sales alone) that's a real feat.

Betheda shot their feet in FO4. The dumb down open world shooter has pissed off majority of hard core Fallout RPG fans while shooter crowd already have too many choices. The success of TW3 really highlights the market for an epic fantasy RPG. Hopefully it will inspire other creative developers like Obsidian in future.

Yeah, I finally finished my first playthrough the other day.  Initially I was enjoying it quite a bit.  But the more the game wore on, the more I was thinking to myself, holy crap didn't I just do this same mission like five minutes ago?  And I am not speaking of the sorts of missions where say the Brotherhood of Steel sends you to clear a place out.  I am speaking on the majority of the main side missions and main story missions.  There were a few that I liked, Silver Shroud and Covenant, but most of them just felt really repetitive.  And the RPG elements of the game were seriously bare bones.  I have never played the original 2 games, but the way fans of those games say that the RPG elements were stripped down between 2 and 3, I feel they were just as stripped between 3 and 4.  I really didn't get to make more than a couple choices throughout the game it felt like and they were not very interesting choices.

Story I felt was pretty weak, which is a shame because there was potential for a really good story there I feel, because it had a pretty neat twist.  It was one that I sorta saw coming because of the nature of cryogenics, but a good twist all the same.  The ending was a real disappointment.  I went with the Railroad, and then I saw my friend who went with the Institute finish it, and the endings really didn't seem all that different to me.

Even she was disappointed in the game and she is a whole lot less picky than I am.

I couldn't really get into the settlement building to be honest because I didn't feel that there was enough variety there to keep me engaged in building things.  There is only like one type of wall that I liked, and after building several houses with it it started to look dull.  They could have at least let us paint the houses or something.  It's a cool idea, there's just not enough there for me personally.  Not after having played games like Minecraft and even Terraria.  Now, I am not expecting that level of building of course, but more than what there was would have been nice.  I tried, I really tried to get into the settlement building, I just couldn't do it.  Maybe in DLC we will get more options.

Ehh, I'll get around to another playthrough, but probably only to clean up a couple of trophies, and I might very well wait for the first DLC for that.  All in all, I wish I had waited until this game came down in price to around $30-$40.

Second it. In addition, Gwent is such a lovely mini game that deserved an GOTY for itself, and the facial animation of character interaction really brings in another level of immersion. Bloodborne is the most promising competitor for GOTY yet TW3 triumphed!

As for FO4, I found the Minecraft thingy the most interesting part of the game, which is really sad even for an open world shooter.

Just started downloading Bloodborne today for the holiday sale.  Still going....but am looking forward to it.

As for FO4...it's almost like they tried to make a Fallout version of Farcry.

Good grief really? GOTY literally means it was someone's game of the year. EVERY game can earn it. Saying something doesn't deserve GOTY is absurd. You can say it doesn't deserve your GOTY (which is reasonable) but unless it's a technical disaster saying it doesn't deserve GOTY is odd. Like you're trying to tell someone what their opinion of the best game of the year is wrong?

My GOTY is F4 because I'm having a blast and with mods I'll be playing this game until TES6 comes out. If someone else doesn't agree that's fine! It's my opinion and everyone has their own GOTY. No need to try to throw shade because you personally don't like the game =/

Seconded.  TW3 is easily my GOTY, but I certainly respect the opinions of those for whom Bloodborne, MGSV, or Undertale is their game of the year.  They're clearly wrong, but I don't hold that against them.  :P :D

Long story short, people say Inquisition is full of "boring, pointless quests".

Not so.

You only need "so much" to progress the story, and Inquisition has multiple ways to get what you need.

If you feel the story is taking too long, it's because you have at least double the amount of power needed to advance the next mission.

Fighting dragons is not only some of the best moments, but gets you the best crafting materials, so most of your equipment is found easily enough, you just need to remove the fire/ice/lightning-breathing parts first, and not die.

Just because you don't need to do all of the boring, pointless quests to advance the story, does not mean that the game is not full of boring, pointless quests.  It really is.

Fighting the first dragon is one of the best moments, fighting the rest of them is just the same thing with a different breath weapon.

Other than that, I agree with most of the rest of what you were saying.

What's interesting is that, yes it was hyped, but it actually delivered. Contrary to certain games like DAI.
