Also, is there any news on the release date for B&W? I've only seen "early 2016."

Yeah, for characters he's great. And hopefully combined with Brent Knowles and Avellone they'll pool their strengths and make something great.
Hadn't heard of this, but that would be a dream - assuming, of course, whatever they cook up didn't crumble into a little pile of excessive ambition.
Google says he's doing Divinity, though?

Well, he was brought in to help polish the story, apparently, so maybe he was more of a consultant than a full employee.

"Credit where credit is due, though: going from the interview, Avellone's role was fairly minor and consisted mostly of giving feedback to the developers."

Old news, it is "first half of 2016" now. ![]()
Is there a consensus/anticipated rpg game of year for 2016
Witcher/dai/fallout had a lot of hype and youtube videos etc.
I guess it's too early to predict if some of them even will make it this year. ME Andromeda, Dark Souls 3, Deus Ex, new Torment, DOS 2...
It is a shame that XCOM 2 has technical problems ruining firsthand experience, but it's not surprising anymore. More reason for "buy a year or two after with all patches and DLC" policy.

Well, Gaider probably won't have any impact on Siege of Dragonspear as the expansion is supposedly just around the corner, the story is there, the companions are there, Avellone has played it,etc.
His focus will be on BG III or perhaps something else. To me Throne of Bhaal was good as an expansion but boring nonetheless, it had potential but wasn't used. Still, Gaider's Ascension was a huge improvement on the initial release. I believe Gaider always cared about the fanbase opinions listening to them and was responsive to their concerns, for better or worse that's a great attribute, So i think he'll do just great over there.
Now as far as Overhaul goes. After releasing the terrible BGEE attempting to make easy money, now is their time to make top quality material, having gathered some serious talent - it's time to make original content.

We haven't had any new insights since page 10 or so.
Besides, it's not wrong.
Well, no one, besides crazy people. has ever said they wanted DA to be exactly like Witcher, just more like it in some key aspects.

Well, some people (and I wouldn't even characterize them as crazy... necessarily) do seem to think that DA should take some actual, mechanical pointers from TW3. Which would be lousy, because it's stuff that has no business in a DA game anyway. They'd do just as well to look back at their own past games for that. They know how to do this stuff right, and they've proven as much. That some aspects fell short in DAI doesn't nullify that.

Nope, doesn't nullify it at all, and I agree that game mechanics are definitely not something they should take from TW3. Unless they wanna make an action RPG in the future of course. ![]()
DA is not an action RPG though. Witcher's mechanics simply would not work in a party based game.

So, someone leaked a crap ton of info about the next expansion. Because I'm a gossip, here you all go:
-Recommended lvl is 40. Can be played before or after main game.
-Has a 'Brotherhood of the Wolf' vibe.
-3 endings.
-New boss fights.
-New weapon: a bone sword.
-release is expected in June.
-New merchants can change armor colors. Some gear from TW2 making a return.
-4 new skills in each tree. 12 new skills in the general tree. New slots for mutagens.
-Trophy bonuses made more meaningful. Overall combat rebalancing.
-Each Witcher set gets alt upgrade.
-Map is about 75% of Velen/Novigrad hub in size.
-New additions to Gwent.
-New sword play animations and new boxing animations.
-New sign: Heliotrope is coming back.
-Graphics and lighting are improved in the new area, but not the base game. ![]()
-Photo mode is coming. New camera settings for FOV...and first person view??
This is unconfirmed info at this point so don't shoot me if it ends up being BS. ![]()

Maybe it was just a money/career decision. Creative Director sounds like it should be step or two higher in the corporate ladder than Lead Writer at least.
It can also just be about the type of work. Even doing the same exact sort of thing - but in a more high level managing role vs. a nitty gritty design role, can make a huge difference in terms of burn out.

Seriously? Not looking down on Rise of the Tomb Raider, it is a good game, but it is not better written then The Witcher 3 and Pillars of Eternity. Even Fallout 4 has better writing.
