Very scientific, and is certainly without bias.

Pls do not be offended if I do not use this poll or hold your experience as a standard for all or most gamers. And if TW3 wins this years award, pls note that it will be handed to them by last years winners from Bioware.

You mean the year before last's (2014)?

Though that would be very fitting. The old, and decrepit passing the torch on to the young, and sexy.

What did people think of the gameplay mechanics in DAI? Everyone seemed to think that DA2 was dumbed down, did DAI rebound a little or maybe a lot? While I've played all three games that type of gameplay isn't for me so that's why I ask. Personally I'd like nothing better if DA went full blown action.

A mixed bag. Improved pacing speed, Action and Tac-Cam options, falling and jumping now included, more options available for dialogue, all Abilities and Spells have two options for upgrades (may require Trespasser DLC), dodging available for all classes, etc. However, there are now only 8 Quickslots, Attributes are improved by gear instead of directly on character, and a lesser Tactic system.

I prefer more tactical gameplay myself and am pleased overall, while many opt for the steady Action gameplay available.

I think if the tactics were more fleshed out, it would be the best iteration of the gameplay yet. Aesthetically (and as far as general "feel" goes), I think it struck a nice balance between its predecessors - less clunky, ugly, and annoying than DAO, less spastic and stupid than DA2 - and ended up being pretty fun.

DA transitioning to full blown action would be a huge disappointment, though. There are other games that scratch that itch - more than there are big budget RTwP party RPGs - such as the other game we're discussing in this very thread.

There's room in the market for both.

Without having played either game for roughly the same reasons, TW3 appears to have had better support after launch addressing various problems. And based on other Player's feedback that have played the games, TW3 seemed to have more positives and less negatives that FO4.

FO4 may have gotten the win due to pre-launch hype that had been ongoing for some years, IMO.

What pre-launch hype? Bethesda never said a word about Fallout 4 until just a few months before it came out at E3, and were very quiet after that.

FO fans had been speaking of a sequel for some time.

The fact that Fallout 4 won role-playing aspect over the Witcher 3 is just absolutely wrong and insulting.

Aside from feeling like the future of gaming looks bleak from the choice of those developers? Not a thing. The critics and gamers who played those/their games has spoken. Very loudly in fact, on the game and rpg of the year.  So those devs and the masses' choices has different opinions on the best game and rpg. I do not know whether that's good or bad. But congrats to FO4 i guess.

I think we had more than one terrific game to choose from. It wouldn't have been my choice, but I can't be upset by it. I've dumped about 150 hours into TW3, and half that into Fallout 4 at least. They're both pretty fantastic.

It's worth noting that TW3 picked up a few categories that it absolutely deserved. As far as the best RPG goes, I'm not really convinced that either game is any more or less of an RPG than the other, since the criteria are so arbitrary and meaningless (and even then, I think Fallout still has some of the more important RPG elements at play, compared with TW, which flat out lacks them by design. And they're both action games, practically speaking). Don't know why it didn't win adventure game over MGS, though. But then I'm biased, and MGS is dumb.

But it is just one awards set, and it has deservedly swept a ton of others. I mean, are any of you guys actually concerned that TW3 isn't getting the near goddamn universal praise and recognition that its general excellence merits? I'm not.

Seriously. Ori and the Blind Forest gets a bunch of love there too, and that game is beautiful, up and down, backwards and forwards. Deserving of all its accolades.

The really weird winners - take Battlefront - are winning things that they might very well succeed admirably at. I can't speak to the gameplay (I haven't played it), but I don't have a hard time believing that it could win a more technical award like one for sound design.

A lot of things these days make me optimistic for the future of gaming. That includes the success and hopeful influence of TW3.

Honestly i haven't been this optimistic about gaming since about 2009 or so, the height of PS3 and PC was at its best. Then a few crap years, and now its back up to awesomeness. Played so many great games in 2015 and 2016 looks amazing aswell.

Oh my god, will you stop being so rational !

Seriously though, I was so happy to see Ori finally get some well deserved recognition.

Speaking about goty. There is a interesting poll going on on gamefaqs.com about which game was the most worthy overall Goty winner in their respective year.

strongestgoty.jpg

http://www.gamefaqs....373-pc/73304663

Of course it's only a small sample size and in no way representative but from my experience outside of this forum it catches the general opinion about the game. It's also interesting because it was done on a neutral gaming forum.

The consensus seems to be either that the game didn't deserve it's goty awards at all or that it only won so many because it had a very weak competition and there wasn't a single outstanding game in 2014.

While the competition was rather weak in 2014 there were a couple other outstanding games that year.  Namely Wolfenstein: The New Order.

What did people think of the gameplay mechanics in DAI? Everyone seemed to think that DA2 was dumbed down, did DAI rebound a little or maybe a lot? Ehh, your gonna find people pretty split on this.  The people who like the game liked the mechanics, the people who don't like the game didn't like them.  I fall on the side of didn't like them.  They felt rather dull honestly to me.  Eventually the combat just feels like a chore that you have to get through.

I think it's absolutely insane.  Fallout 4 is a decent game, even a good game, but I cannot call it a great game.
