True. Incidentally idd because the only way he could save his daughter is to defeat the hunt. Otherwise i dont think Geraltipoo gives a crap.

Actually, it's Ciri that saved the world and not your character.

Yeah, and the saving the world part feels almost like an afterthought to the conclusion to the game.  I know it isn't, it's pretty important and all, but they didn't really lead up to her stopping the White Frost, it just felt kind of tossed in there at the end.

Probably a Gwent standalone thing, could be cool. New AAA game before 2021? Like not Cyberpunk then? Wow that is 5 freaking years from now. I will be old by then!

That's new AAA game aside from Cyberpunk :) I say CP will be out 2017 and the new one after. I rly wonder what that new one is.

But I am a bit afraid since they want to expand their work force to 800 from 400 as of now. Ubisoft is flashing on my head and I wonder if their quality suffers. I guess time will tell.

800?? Where did you get this number from?

I really need to know what this new game for 2016 is.

The new game's probably going to be Gwent related, multiplayer might also play a big part in it, since they're looking to expand GOG with new features and networking capabilities.

Well after The Witcher 3 they have finally gotten into the AAA industry for real, made alot of money and naturally want to expand. There is no guarantee that they always will develop TW3 quality games, but that doesn't mean they will produce bad games. Interesting future non the less.

I'd say TW2 was their breakout game and put them firmly in the AAA space. TW3 put them in a mainstream place though, at least among fans and critics. I think most people see them alongside Beth and Bioware when it comes to big production RPGs now.

This is worth a repost:

All aboard the hype train....

Cool. If it wasn't for my broken hype bone I'd be buying a one way ticket on that train.

With nearly 10m copies and 248 Goty's, i'm pretty sure it's a given, that some companies will take a look at Witcher 3.

I knew that they were doing well, but that's probably twice that of DAI.

I'm still more curious though in what comes next.. what they can do with a setting with more freedom.

And half that of Skyrim; hard to tell without having exact sales figures available.

Skyrim is also much older. TW3 10 mil is not even 1 yr old.

True; it took Skyrim a little over two years to reach that mark, I believe (announcements made in Jan 2014; launched in Nov 2011).

The fact that Bioware can't even brag a little about it isn't a good sign.

But yeah, Skyrim is hugely popular.

No bragging required; DICE GOTY 2014, and financial economic evidence that sales helped EA.

What is DICE GOTY? Isn't DICE just owned by EA.. or is this another DICE?

What evidence? Like actual numbers. Not vague marketing statements written in prose.

Shipped is not sold. Shipped is just the volume of units moved to retailers. Doesn't mean the copies sold. The previously linked article lists sales at 6 million. A resounding success - especially when you consider the gains on currency alone (in the Euro and various dollar denominations) - but not the same as sold.

Edit:

That tile is confusing, because the actual quote is that it sold 10 million copies. So the title actually undercuts itself. And the previous article gives the correct sales numbers for the Witcher series as a whole - 20 million - but then ascribes 6 million to TW3, when the source that gives us the 20 million number for the series give us 10 for TW3.

This is just strange.

Bad title by Gamespot. The series has sold 20 million according to the report,10 million of that is from TW3. Huge success. Not just for CDPR, but for the idea that story driven games still sell, and sell big time.

For me, this sale number underpins the real market for an awesome fantasy RPG.

Unlike With Skyrim I'm stoked to see what sort of impact this ends up having on the RPG genre, since I'm a fan of games with a strong focus on characters and story. The Bethesda model of having the game world and exploration being the primary focus, with a blank slate protagonist and side characters that are an afterthought, doesn't interest me at all. I also think Skyrim's success had a role in some of the bad design decisions made with DA:I.
