Skyrim is also much older. TW3 10 mil is not even 1 yr old.
True; it took Skyrim a little over two years to reach that mark, I believe (announcements made in Jan 2014; launched in Nov 2011).
Skyrim is gonna keep chugging along too. I think the only (and the most) disappointing thing about TW3 is the absence of a full-featured content editor. TW3 is as first-rate as they come, but it's so long, and I think its length inhibits replay value somewhat (and there aren't very many branches or lengthy optional questlines, so you can't build a little non-main quest concept playthrough around them like you can with the guild questlines in TES). Although I guess they might still release it at the end of everything.
With Skyrim's basic design and the breadth of its mod support, you can drop into the game for a short, highly changeable experience whenever the mood strikes (I just started a new vampire PC/Dark Brotherhood playthrough this past weekend. Planning a Bosmer playthrough around several survivalist mods as well).
