I haven't tried starting NG+ this way,  but iirc I've read that it is possible.

wrt the scripts,  I suspect they might corrupt your savegame if you remove the mod.  Easy way to find out is try it,  level up, save game, disable the mods. If the save game loads up, your good to go.

My idea there was to sort of avoid being completely overpowered in the half of the NG+ by importing a level 30something character as opposed to my current character who is level 52. But then I remembered A) the level scaling option, and B ) the level cap increase, which actually answers that concern. My bigger question is definitely what sort of world state we end up with in those DLC playthroughs.

As for scripts, at least in Bethesda games, the problem could have been far more pernicious, making itself know hours and days down the road. And I've read that certain combat overhauls can permanently alter your stats if you remove them (makes sense) and so forth, but upon reading further, I think I'd be ok with these two mods, since they only seem to alter gear and potions.

Is the script merge utility something I should use as a matter of course, just to be safe?

Only yesterday,  I saw a post on CDPR's forums that someone starting ng+ at level 53 had reached level 100 with some of B&W to finish.  Personally I'm  doing a noncompletionist run in ng so I can start at a lower level.  it's been good so far,  finisished HoS at level 37 rather than the level 40 I normally do.

Your probably right with the scripts,  I'm far more cautious with these things,  probably because of my background in IT. I believe you only need to use the merge utility if you get script errors,  not sure though.

So what ending do you prefer in  HOS?  choose evil itself or Olgierd?

wrt books,  DAI was bad with relying on characters from books without explaining them.  I felt with TW3,  if you read all the books, notes and ask all the dialogue questions you have a good idea of what's going on.

Just started B&W after starting a new playthrough.  Just ordered my first upgrades at Corvo Bianco.

HoS ending: I could have tried to save Olgierd, but he was pretty far gone already and I felt I was dragged into it.

I also didn't do Rose On A Red Field. If the lady wants Geralt's service, she can ask Geralt and not command him.

BaW is pretty cool. If you hear songs then stop and listen to those. Some are really creepy. :P

The BaW endings are great. I've played all three, and it is hard to determine which is the best ending. If you have the chance, play all three.

Beware not the break the upgrades. Just stay around the house and meditate until these arrived. That prevents bugs.

Have fun.

Yeah, if I manage a full run through for NG+, it definitely won't be a completionist run. I just don't think I can do that more than once, it's too much. But I very much want to do a run with Yen, as well as make a few different key decisions along the way.

I walk a weird line WRT cheaty mods. I don't want to trivialize the difficulty of the gameplay too much - I like the gameplay and I enjoy the challenge. But I think I've done my time, and I'd like to focus on style and fun (playing it on a lower difficulty would be boring) for the NG+. Having a set of witcher gear that levels up with me, as well as a 15 minute Swallow et al, will certainly make things easier, but not utterly so. And I figure I did my time. Did most of the game on B&BB, switched to DM towards the end and for the DLC.

How is the game going playing the dlc without importing? Are there a lot or any differences?

I only started it - and actually, I'm just running around Velen at the moment, heh. I wanted to see if anyone knew what was up with the world states before I really got going. A cursory google didn't reveal much.

Otherwise, you start with some crappy Kaer Morhen armor, all oils, and a couple of pots and decoctions. That part's actually pretty annoying - I need more toys to play with. I understand game logic, but it's annoying that Geralt is a witcher at the end of his career but he still needs to gather all his potion recipes all over again. Of course, I have the dev console, so that's easily remedied.

Quest journal empty save for BaW and HoS. Which is actually really nice, because then I don't have to look at all the stupid gwent and horse racing quests rotting away in there.

Yeah, that doesn't sound like something I'd be interested in doing. I just started a new game and I am already missing my powerful gear lol.

I'm trying to find a fellow named Vernon Roche, who is supposed to be at "The Partisan Camp." The map is being really weird about it, and google relays ominous mentions of a bug. Any advice?

He's a little tough to find IIRC. Have you tried exploring around the area the map is pointing you to? They're inside a well-hidden craggy cliff/cave thing in central-eastern portion of the Novigrad map.... I think.

He's at this location on the map:

It's a cave opening with a fast-travel point right outside.

The map was being weird, pointing me to the building in North part of Novigrad, where you search one of the building with Cleaver's henchdwarfs (after I'd scoured that area). I was thinking I needed to be looking at a different level or something. I was having Geralt scale buildings and them swim around the rocks at the bottom, looking for a cave.

This helps, thanks.

"a fellow named Vernon Roche"

I take it you didn't look at much TW2 stuff?

I only know bits and pieces. I actually knew Vernon Roche was significant because I've seen several people describe him as both badass and a favorite, so I was going for deliberate understatement.

He's a peach. Even if you break his heart and side with Iorveth, he's still your buddy.

I'm grateful for the brief footnotes on that conflict in game. I'm a bit sick of human vs. elves plot lines.

Which is why Vernon Roche is the best husbando. Even if you betray him, he still has your back and will remain loyal to the next game.

The fact that he's the Temerian version of Jason Bourne/Jack Bauer doesn't hurt either.

Iorveth is nice and all.. I suppose. But he'll never reach Roche's level of fierce loyalty and badassery. IMHO. :P

The scene where Geralt finally finds Whoreson Junior is extravagantly cathartic.

Also your tracked quest changes sometimes when you accept new quest, so it is worth double checking if it is still the same. It took my dumb self a while to spot this.

I was just about to post this. Once I was gathering all of an armor set and went all across the map, the opposite direction of my armor, before I realized another quest was ticked.

Junior Whoreson was the worst villain they've ever written. Pure shock value, no complexity, no ulterior motives, no layered personality traits. Just EVUL. I wanted to cry it was so bad. It's also very clear that content cuts probably damaged that questline. It starts out real good, and then immediately goes south about 2/3 of the way through. I'm of the belief they need to give the writers and quest designers plenty of time to iterate, to see how things will look in the final product. Otherwise, the writers are working blind and they don't have a full idea on how things will play out. Marcin Blacha and another lead writer mentioned this in interviews.
