Twitter is Bioware's social media platform of choice and has been for a long time.

Official forums are probably never coming back. Twitter costs Bioware nothing and they reach a lot more people there with announcements.

It's also a much more terrible way to discuss things with the limited post size.  Which of course means no really long posts picking their games apart piece by piece anymore.  At least not where they are going to read them.

But it is also the perfect reaction EA is looking for. Fans get hyped by every single announcement with short responses like "Awesome, Cool, Can't wait etc.".  Will re-order any DLC/Skin packs coming in the future. Marketing department always hate 'old community' and their detailed feedback/ thoughtful critiques.

My feelings exactly. Social media is easier to 'manage' and is better for churning out hype.

Also easier to block dissenters.

Also easier to block dissenters.

This is crucial too. Social media is the necessary tool for 'massive social indoctrination'. Only 'approprate idea' will be accessible while any differing idea/critique/other thoughts (i.e. the traditional BSN) could be censored easily.

Time for some good old V...

I have heard the news, and must declare that I am not a surprised Ogre. The company hasn't really been keen on interacting with their own fan base let alone critics or concerned consumers. As others have said, money money money.. The bioware that cared about public pr is not concerned with how fun their game is, rather how to avoid pissing off social justice.

I believe the forums were essential to garnering interest and truly finding balance between different opinions on things like through our suggestion posts. But it's been seen more of a hindrance rather than what it should be, a tool for improvement.

Of course there's also the money aspect. Twitter is free, restrained, and best of all, if someone says something they don't want to hear on Twitter.. They could easily use the block feature.

Although I really have to ask.. Why abandon one of the things that made bioware stand out from other game developers to this date? In exchange for a movement of equality and representation among many groups which I applaud, they are cutting off their fanbase from congregation, which helped new features for games come in from outside the big meeting room. This forum, despite the negativity still brought together fans. It's another step toward alienating your base. "We simply don't need you." Is what I got from this.

I didn't think Konami would have a rival for worst game company 2016 but hey, here we are.

In EA we trust, they never fail in creating consumer resentment.

From an engineering management background, I also found the economic argument ridiculous.  How would the termination of a well-established community fully controlled by the company be more economic when next major project is coming (release of MEA). It pissed off long-term loyal consumers and destroy the perfect marketing channel in one stroke.  It simply does not make sense.

The only explanation I think is that EA is deciding to dismantle Bioware just like they did to Bullfrog, Maxis. Closing BSN is the first step of damage control.

Not a financial decision, according to Bioware:

No, this was not a monetary decision. It also was not an easy one for us to make.

We understand that there are people who use and love these boards. And like them, we are sad to see them go. However, many of our players and staff now use other sites and networks outside of these boards, and we want to foster these interactions and support the great fan communities our players have built.

As always, we are committed to our players, and will continue to seek out and solicit their feedback. All of you are why we make games and what we love about gaming. This is the end of an era, but we will always, always listen to our players.

First person mod released. http://www.nexusmods...er3/mods/1862/?

Works only while exploring, but still great for immersion and you can switch from third to 1st person and back with a simple press on p.1862-0-1469830923.png1862-4-1469830921.jpg1862-6-1469830920.jpg

A great review of CDPR by Eurogamer. Sort like my parting gift for this thread.

I have never liked social media.  Never became a part of the whole facebook/myspace/twitter nonsense.  Now I am starting to loathe it.  They are all just places where brain cells go to die with their limits and inhibitions when it comes to conversations.  How sadly amusing it is that something like the internet exists that fosters and inspires greater connectivity, and people just can't stop trying to find ways to limit it.

As much as I dislike this, Konami is still much worse, in my opinion.  EA isn't turning all their beloved franchises into gambling machines yet after all.

Holy crap, the universe has got to be imploding.  I got a like from Elhanan.  I don't....I don't know what to think about this.

It's weird, but I am even going to miss you Elhanan.

Twitter also includes a lot of people who aren't necessarily hardcore fans, unlike official forums, so that also plays into there being less negative feedback.

I do not know what this means for Bioware's future. I hope at least they are going to open a new one for MEA. I have not and was not going to visit MEA forums until I have played it, but I guess I am never going to get that chance now.

To be honest my first thought, well first one after 'Oh look Bioware treating their fans with contempt and disrespect yet again', was 'wow they must be expecting one heck of a backlash to Andromeda, it must be worse than Inquisition...'. I mean why else close your fan forum before you release a really big game, they claim it isn't about cost, so it seems strange. Unless they know they will get a large number of fans coming here and yelling at them because Andromeda doesn't live up to the hype or shows they learnt nothing from fan feedback to ME3 or Dragon Age Inquisition...

I get where you are coming from, I consider myself a minimalist user of some kind, like ordinarily (not with this place which is a weird exception) I kind of log in every like... week... or even longer... I can't do the "update all the time, be there for everyone" shenanigans.

Besides if you look at the Marina Joyce thing you can see how that all turns to ****.

That video just made me sad. I wish EA didn't exist because they suck up everything good in their path like some insatiable black hole. I hope they stay far, far away from CD Projekt red.

They tried. If Cyberpunk is as great as TW3, EA will try even harder.

CDPR got screwed big time by 3rd publishers in TW1's console port thing. So they decide never give up own rights for creativity and publish business. On the other hand,  Bioware jumped to EA's bed eagerly. "He who sups with the devil should have a long spoon"- unfortunately, it is too little too late for Bioware.

The cynical me would say that this is the beginning of the end for Bioware, but that ship already sailed a long time ago. History tends to repeat itself.

Is it wrong to feel both sad and happy about this? Maybe.

Oh well, so long and thanks for all the fish.
