When she tried to make the research known militant feminists issued death threats and tried to silence her. smh.

Yeah, they tend to do that to anyone and anything that doesn't fit their absurdly rigid belief system.

One thing that I think Bioware could improve on is exposition in dialogue. There are too many dialogues with just the characters standing in front of each other with no end. TW3 has lots of exposition but with the character walking around, or integrated with the banter, and with them doing something different. Sometimes, TW3 is lazy and elects one NPC to be exposition man (like the ambassador), but most characters we come to know them in a more dynamic fashion.

There are glimpses of that in DAI, when you get a short cut scene with the characters at least moving around, but i confess I dislike things like "What do you think of our friends?" or "Anyhting new?". Some answers are actually interesting, but they should be delivered more naturally, The idea of stopping the story to talk is functional, but less interesting. I got the impression that a lot of the dialogue in DAI with your companions in the fortress could be integrated in the banter system.

I also like the way Geralt questions makes him look like a detective. There is almost always a purpose behind every question. You might not like him, but the guy is pretty consistent.

This is not a huge thing, dialogue in RPG was almost always an static affair - and TW3 has its moments of static dialogue too, better disguised with the camera angles, But the whole arc with Keira Metz was very dynamic. The whole presentation and relationship with the character is built on the go: talking a bit here, a bit there, banter, actions, quick cut scenes intertwined with combat and by the end of it their relationship was pretty much defined. I would like to see more things like that.

An Elf, Qunari, Mage, and Dwarf becoming the leader of a human centric religious military organization is like Geralt suddenly becoming the leader of the Church of Eternal Fire.

The Inquisition isn't the chantry though. Your inquisitor can of course explain that he/she isn't the Herald and even can even suggest the chantry has failed, so yeah, my inquisitors weren't religious at all and certainly didn't push religious agendas or try to convert anyone.

Yet inevitably, whoever they "support" happens to become divine. Even if it's Leliana, it's implied that you supported her the most despite her being an option. Never at any point can you come out and say "I think the Chantry should rot" or "I detest your practices" or make any kind of hint that the Inquisition itself is anti chantry.

If you want me to get really edgy... Keep in mind when you "transform" this weapon, you literally cut yourself and use your own blood to infuse the katana. Reaaally edgy.

Not really

I think saying the Chantry has failed a number of times kind of implies that your somewhat anti-Chantry already

Yes, Yes I know exactly how many echoes you lost to him.

I did depth 5 cursed chalice dungeons at level 50 purposefully, yet no boss did I ever encounter was more BS than his "I'll shoot you for 60%  of your health, and then shoot you again" "oh you got me to 50% health? time to vial everytime you get me close to dying.. Oh hey I have 5k health. Oh hey I have infinite ammo. Oh hey, I hate your healing so I'll throw a lloyd's Talisman/clouding mist to prevent your healing.." That guy was cheaper than any invader I've ever encountered in any souls game, ever.

This is one of the more enjoyable things for me. When hunting monsters, it is not "go to monster lair and kill monster" you have to investigate the area find clues as to where it lives and lure it out, learn things about it.

It isn't though. My elven mage inquisitor got princess stabbity who pretty much wants to rebuild the chantry. Not quite as good as tearing it down, but our inquisition doesn't have the power to do thay so it's probably the next best thing.

That's a form of destruction in it's own way I admit. Still, would have liked to see it crumble in my game -- was completely disappointed on that front.

You honestly expected Bioware to put something that world changing into their game?

apparently people wanted to be totally anti-theists and destroy the main religion of the setting.

To be honest, I wish we saw more of the faith and its interaction in people's lives. If you are going to focus on the wilderness, one should have more roadside shrines with people praying then.

I suck at sidestepping and things like that, so the game would probably be difficult for me anyway.

or you could just hold the parry button? Geralt will pull jedi level sword blocks at that point.

I do feel this constant comparison to CDPR must chafe for the devs. For all my grievances in what DA ended up like, I don't feel the need to rub what I see as failure in their faces. Their vision for DA parted ways with me after the first game, and that's how it is. Witcher has nothing to do with it.

I assume they created a Feedback section in their forum in order to receive and digest feedback about their games, positive and negative. Would it be best to just give up on DA totally or take a little stab at pointing Bioware in a better direction? I'm honestly asking your opinion because I'm close to giving up the same as you. There's still Mass Effect... maybe.

What is Dragon Age?

Feel free to use adblock by the way but here's multiple videos below in spoiler. It shows me prior patch, doing it with a level 50 character saw cleaver and shotgun, level 80, and level 110 that used both melee and executioner's glove. I didn't make that youtube channel to become big, just for my friends.

edit: can't seem to find the level 50, but trust me I've done him before. I had to do it to get to the Loran Darkbeast which was far more *fun*. Found it, going to reupload the video as I cannot find it on my channel. Cardinal (110), Knight Templar (80), Butcher (50). the (50) will be more relevant if you are purely melee, can use the same principles as the magic using ones if you are bloodtinge.

Baron's a pretty evil character, not really that gray to me.

Only games that are necessarily played in real-time have necessary action components. A heavily stat-driven turn-based game (like Wasteland 2) never gets reduced to an action game.

Wasteland 2 was a freaking action game, every stat was meaningless in that game basically, because everything was of essentially equal value and all weapon types were created equal and stats dictated over weapon values. You just get high perception and shoot things, everything else was meaningless.

It was all about the character's stats, and not the player's reflexes or hand to eye coordination. That alone means it is not an action game...

I love the ladies of the woods quest as no matter what it is a horrible choice and I love that. I hope for more quests like this in both the Witcher itself and Dragon Age. The crones to me seem to be based on Baba Yaga and similar sort of folklore witches.

Spoiler

anyways, I got to the niflgardian command 'center' army group place as well as oxenfurt, still haven't got to oxenfurt. seeing the soliders in both places made me think about how we didn't see the soldiers in skyhold. In Oxenfurt, while exploring,  noticed a few times soldiers out drinking or at a table playing cards or dice. sure they just said basic scrippted repeatable lines, but it really did feel like what soldiers would do when off duty.

In the Niflgardian camp, which is huge and you only seem to see a a small section of it, I encountered soliders talking about what they plan to do once they reach certain places or can go home. In both places you get a sense that the soliders are people, even if for the most part nameless NPCs. I saw soldiers preparing for the upcoming battle.

There was this cutscene with bull about what your average soldiers are like. But when walking around the camp, you don't see them preparing, you don't hear them talking with the NPCs even if it is scrptied. But you don't hear or see them off hours, you didn't see them being people or the sense that they were this well army.

Furthermore, when I did another quest and had to work with witch hunters and the Baron's men, it really did feel like they were helping and not just in the way, well till the giant monster of doom arrives, but hey it is a giant fiend.

It was all about the character's stats, and not the player's reflexes or hand to eye coordination. That alone means it is not an action game...

The character's stats are all BS, it wasn't about reflexes or hand eye coordination but it was your placement on the map and relationship to mobs etc. Luck, Strength, Charisma, Speed, Strength, Coordination, and Awareness all just add up to a damage number (maybe more or less crit chance, more or less actions per round, but basically just a number) that you repeat in combat. That damage number is the only meaningful thing which you get when you right click or whatever button it was, so the game is "right click, right click, right click."

Like I said since all stats had some degree of value you might as well just randomly allocate them, in comparison to Fallout 2 where for example certain stats were notably better than others (such as agility, and perception). If you don't have reason to prefer anything, there's no point in bothering, if you can prefer something you just stack it, either way, it reduces down to nothing.

I'm not always saying it has all the elements of a traditional action game, I'm saying the addition of stats is meaningless and the base concept is simply movements and the attack button.
