It's nothing to DAI over! I'm sure the DAO of a perfect abbreviation will come to us soon enough. DAT would be very good indeed. We'll be like, DAM.

...and if anyone manages to successfully read my post without scratching their heads in confusion, congratulations: you, like me, often find yourself phoneticizing abbreviations.

I'd support Dragon Age: Imperium, perhaps the backgrounds could be something like;

Human Mage: The youngest son of a former prominent member of the Magesterium, your father was disgraced after it was discovered he was a member of the Venatori, proof that's rumoured to have been delivered to his enemies by your older sister in order to curry favour with the Archon.

 

Human Rogue/Warrior: A Soporati born into and disowned by a prominent family of mages, you've been forced to build yourself from nothing, living a hard life on the streets before eventually joining the Imperial Military.

 

Dwarf Rogue/Warrior: The son of a member of the Orzammar ambassadorial delegation, you've been forced to become a Surfacer and into a web of political intrigue after learning that your father has been embezzling royal funds and hiding his affiliation with the Carta for years.

 

Elf Mage: A freed slave and member of the Laetans. Despite leaving the life of a slave behind you, you've learned that life in Tevinter for an elf with magic can be just as dangerous as life for an elf without it?

 

Elf Rogue/Warrior: A former slave, freed after your sibling was discovered to have magical talents and moved into an Alienage, where you've been forced to seek a meager living in the slums however you can?

 

Qunari Mage: A Saarebas who fled from the Qun and now works for a band of Tal-Vashoth and Vashoth mercenaries. Unfortunately while working a job in a town near the border of Nevarra, you and your comrades were mistaken for Qunari raiding party by an overeager Imperial army commander desiring to make a name for himself and now find yourselves hunted.

 

Qunari Rogue/Warrior: Ten years ago you were a proud member of the Beresaad. Then you were captured, forced to watch as your prized weapon was melted down in front of you, creating the very shackles you now wear and sending you into the life of a Tal-Vashoth and slave in one fell swoop. Now the prized bodyguard of a Magister, you wait for the day that you can finally break your bonds and escape, though you know not what to?

In order to get rid of the abbreviation problem...  What about Dragon Age 4: Imperium or Dragon Age IV: Imperium? So they can simply be DA4, DA4:I or DA IV..

Companies tend to shy away from numbers these days more often than not; marketers worry that it sends a message of connectivity between installments which will frustrate newcomers, and the newcomer is ever-courted. I'd be pretty surprised if they went back to it!

Artistically I like the idea that games aren't numbered, and each is its own thing in the Dragon Age. Also makes the cross media stuff seem more legit.

Abbreviations are only an issue if you're overly fond of acronyms. You could just call it Imp, or Imperium even, you don't have to pay for the extra letters with blood.
