That's a good thing isn't it? I don't even know anymore with Tumblr.

Eh, culture isn't a static concept. It evolves at the same pace the society and its accepted norms do. Cultural appropriation and assimilation is a natural process. Sure, some people do that for ignorant or downright stupid reasons, others because they are genuinely fascinated by it and want to embrace said culture, either way it ends in the same fashion, so whatever.

It's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard, I'm Nigerian English and I really don't see why it's such a problem for people to be embracing other cultures.
It depends on what culture and what aspects of that culture we are embracing

What's actually wrong with cultural appropriation?
This cultural appropriation term, is just another tumblr concept from people who 'think they know'.

Tumblr. Making otherwise normal concepts seem suspicious since 2007.

It's appropriate except when it is inappropriate, but then it becomes appropriate until there are appropriations for it. When it becomes inappropriate. Unlike appreciations which accrete until they are appreciated.
I feel like a cat that is torn between hunting the laser dot, or napping. I want to understand and toy with that comment until this forum is a ragged piece of destroyed furniture, but I'm not sure the effort is worth it.

The idea is that you're taking something valuable from a group that you hold power over without recognising that it's their culture. Basically the idea (at least when I read about it) was that it's a kind of plagiarism. Which is why the term is bad - it makes it sound like you're taking a really cool culture and incorporating it (who could possibly object to that) versus basically plagiarising.

Pretty much. And I don't think thinking ill of it is such a "luz you tumblr people so crazy" concept.

Some culture's culture is to subvert other cultures. Do as you will.

That's ridiculous. You can't plagiarize a culture.

LOL
I have no problem with it since I like Taco Bell, Japanese curry, and General Tso's chicken.

Finally I get to use my sig.
I love what different cultures can produce in terms of music, art, cuisines, entertainment, clothing, even hairstyles. Anyone who tries to paint that enjoyment as a negative can eat a fat one.

One of the dumbest things I've heard was a fellow Hispanic saying he felt oppressed because WASPs were trying to learn Spanish.
