To survive and evolve, a culture must be able to look at others and incorporate what they can make use of in order to change with time. Not every culture has to do this, and by god when some cultures try to force change is the consequences horrific. But at the same time, people wouldn't be here if everyone just didn't take things from other cultures and introduce them into their own culture. It also drifts dangerously close to what racial supremacists argue, whereas they value their own races cultural purity above all else, these tumblerinas take the opposite approach and view their culture as toxic and requiring isolation. Either way, both suggest that cultures not mix, in order to create a better society.

They're the intellectual equivalent of evolution deniers, in my own opinion. Makes me wonder how many of them would be willing to actually follow what they say and give up tea and coffee. Since tea originated from the asia region and had great cultural significance to their people before the mass smuggling and spread of it thanks to imperialism, and coffee was an ethiopian product which found great cultural value in the arabian penesula, yemen specifically, before it was literally smuggled out to india by Sufi Baba Budan, an important figure in both cultures.

Ah, cultural appropriation. What happens when you want to talk about how awful white people, or other white people if you're feeling particularly self righteous, and start reaching for straws.

One of the dumbest things I've heard was a fellow Hispanic saying he felt oppressed because WASPs were trying to learn Spanish.

But Iggy Azalea making Hip-Hop music is actually terrible though.

If you look food and music, you'd have to agree with cultural appropriation being a good thing.

Many elements of today society (think of the mark B.C./A.D.) were taken and absorbed by ancient cultures by the judeo-christians (St. Paul, St. Peter etc. etc.). Contamination is inevitable.

Is this the kind of thread where, if I say that one should respect the ways of their "host" or go back home, I get labeled racist? :o

Every culture incorporates ideas and technologies form its predecessors and neighbors. To pretend that doesn't happen is incredibly ignorant. I don't see how that's a problem.

Naww, I am part of the Finnish immune system. Apparently it is only okay, if your body does it, when a country does it, it is wrong :/

We should ban any cultural contamination from Kangarooland.

Their BBQ can stay, though.

I think cultural appropriation is awesome. I think white chicks look hawt as heck in asian dresses like the kimono or cheongsam.

Case and point, here's Tekken's Anna Williams's fine Irish arse in a sexy cheongsam dress.

I think it's a bad concept.

"Hey guys, let's promote togetherness and equality by putting ourselves into boxes and never having our cultures interact!"

...srsly?

That's the thing isn't it. Most cultures are just not compatible. Unless they are willing to shed some things off (which many traditionalists won't) it just won't cut it. It's like forcing a jigsaw piece into it's board.

Every culture adapts things from other cultures. There are countless historical examples. The whole "cultural appropriation" thing is BS spewed by tumblr crackpots. To put it simply, tumblr is a cancer which should be wiped off the internet with fire. It's a cult of narcissists which destroys fun things because "muh feelings" and "THAT TRIGGERED ME".
