Would you reccomend Dragon Age to this Mass Effect fan?

I've known of Dragon Age for many years but never thought of playing it until recently. Started playing Mass Effect a year ago and I love it, it's one of my favourite gaming franchises now. Since joining these forums I've heard more about it and want to try giving it a good go.

Is it like Mass Effect in a way that I could enjoy it in a familiar way? I have tried Inquisition a while back, as you can see under my profile, but I was more interested in other games at the time to get too into it and I'm not sure if I should play that again or start with Origins.

Would Origins would be the best game to start for canon or gameplay reasons or not? I'm not too fussed about graphics being dated so long as they aren't really horrible, and I say gameplay because of how a lot of people dislike ME1's combat (myself included) despite liking the other two.

I have played some medieval-themed games like Elder Scrolls and Fable, just so you know.

Reccomendations? Opinions for a DA newbie?

yes

. I bought the Utimate Edition for DAO for $19.99. It includes every dlc. Well worth the money. I believe you will enjoy the game

They're very different games.

But I definitely recommend Dragon Age: Origins, as it's one of my favourites of all time. Be warned, though, it wears its age, with some pretty clunky animations and gameplay.

Origins gives you a fairly easy entry into the world, so it's a decent place to start. As others have mentioned, it does show its age. Origins' combat might take some getting used to.

i take Spellforce 1 over DA:O any day of the week,

but i'm very picky, these two games was the only games of this kind i could carry on over 15 minutes.

to give a scale, i played SF1 10 years, DA:O 1 year

I was in a similar situation as you were. I'm huge Mass Effect fan and I was aware of Dragon Age, but I just never sought it out until maybe a year and a half ago.

I started with Origins. I will say that DAO is certainly showing its age, but I really like it. The combat can be a bit... clunky and repetitive. I usually tell people to play DAO before DAI, and that DA2 is optional.

You can pick up a copy of DAO fairly cheaply now, so by all means.

Yes I would.

Though it's fair to say Dragon Age Origins and Elder Scrolls aren't much alike.

Definitely!

Its true that DAO is a bit dated and the combat a little awkward, but the characters and interactions create a wonderfully immersive experience.  You may miss a voiced PC, but I think it was a worthwhile trade-off for many more convos....

By the way DAO:UE is usually the most cost efficient way to get the game and all its DLCs

I started playing bioware games with Jade empire years ago , Knights of the old republic and Kotor 2 The Sith lords all great games , then came ME one of my all time faves DAO followed and I've been hooked ever since . I've done the ME trilogy and loved every minute of it but the dragonage  world holds my heart , you like ME I'm betting you will like DAO go for it . PS start with Origins .
