I respect DG so much for Dragon Age Origins, but I hate to say this, his new political approach just doesn't sit well with me.

Do you guys think I'm wrong in regards to this?

A bit, seeing as I really enjoy playing games where I get to meet all kinds of people (and Bioware's current political views seem to be pointing towards me continuing to be a happy camper). But hey, different strokes for different folks.

Bioware, if we get Dragon Age Origins II, please do not let David Gaider or any feminists touch it (no offense, please don't take this personally).  No offense to him, but he's changed into a politician. I'm not a fan of politicians. *hugs Mr. Gaider* There seems to be too much demand for censoring content instead of offering equal content.

I hate to break it to you, but I'm pretty sure that the Dragon Age writer's pit is filled to the top with feminists. David Gaider has moved on to another franchise, but both their writing in -game and the public statements they've made leads me to think that Patrick Weekes, Mary Kirby, Sheryl Chee, Lukas Kristjanson, Sylvia Feketekuty and Brianne Battye are all feminists too.

Don't forget about Karen Weekes, Patrick's wife.   She's the lead editor and was also speaking at some cons last year.

Good point! So, yeah. If you don't want icky feminists working on Dragon Age, you would need to start by getting rid of all of the writers and editors. Even though half of them worked on Dragon Age: Origins.

Leliana, whom a few claim as "one of three hot female LIs in the series" was written by Sheryl Chee.  So was Isabela.  Lukas was the lead writer for the Baldur's Gate series.  He had the same job for BG as David Gaider did for DA up until recently and DG was working under him on characters like Viconia.  Luke also wrote Minsc too.  So now we're getting into old school writers that are "evil feminists."

This is kinda funny.

Time travel, the agenda is changing history. It's like Red Alert but with more feminism.

What new political approach? He's had the same views for as long as I've been following him. BW has always been socially liberal I find it bizarre that people think its a  recent thing.

Oh and David Gaider does not write for Dragon Age as of February or so.  BioWare is working on a new game series and he's off to help build the world for it.

All of this has happened before, and will happen again.

Given that a feminist is generally just someone who supports gender equality (most people in the western world are therefore feminists) that's a remarkably steep filter you have there.

2) No finishing moves.

Finishing moves are important, especially for melee combat, in DAO how many Ogres and High Dragons and or bandits/Darkspawn we have finished with different finishing moves based on the type of weapons?

This has to be the biggest worldwide con of modern times. I'm all for gender equality, and equality in general, which is exactly why I don't identify as a feminist. I'm an egalitarian. Oh, and before someone tries to shove the dictionary definition of feminism at me to "prove me wrong" it means nothing when what seems like the majority of the movement don't adhere to that basic principle. Not to mention there are so many schools of thought in modern feminism that all have claims to the name that the dictionary definition is no longer applicable. There are sex positive feminists, **** shaming feminists, Tumblr feminists, female supremacists and countless other types of people who consider themselves a part of the movement. (InB4 no true Scotsman response.)

Ehem... To get back on Topic, though Origins was by far the most enjoyable of the franchise for me, I can't imagine Bioware ever going that route again. Bioware are carving out their own identity in the gaming market, and they're thriving because of it. LGBT representation is a very positive thing, and it's kind of sad that this sets Bioware apart from the rest of the industry. I'm all for continued and increased LGBT support in future games, the only time this is annoying is when they occasionally feel the need to "lecture" the fanbase (the conversation with IB about Krem comes to mind) or acts like the average gamers default stance is that of a bigot.

They also left you wide open to get killed when it randomly threw you in one

Finishing moves are honestly pointless but cool to see

Which is why I hated them, and wanted to be able to turn them off.

That DAI doesn't have them is a massive improvement.

Besides, I only brought that up as an example of what I've personally read some folks are claiming makes Inquisition more "PC."  I think it's just a matter of a style choice that they abandoned for the reasons why you and Keith stated.  The PC part comes from folks that think that the decapitation move was "too edgy and had to be cut out."  I don't agree, but at least they've politely stated their case.

If folks liked them as a little combat move, then it's a shame it's gone for them.  I can't say I'll miss them, but they did look cool.  I don't think that the dev team took it out because "to make DA:I more politically correct."   I also agree with you both; I didn't enjoy them because it could accidentally leave you open for plenty of things to come and smack you.  If you weren't playing an AW or a tank, depending on the area/difficulty settings, that could be a game over.  My poor rogues... :(

While I want my kills to be brutal and nasty...

I can see your point here and understand why you'd want them not in a game

Would hope that we can agree options are nice, toggle on/off..

They should have been just as quick as a regular attack, really. No slow motion stuff.

For me it only went slow mo when there was one enemy left

This is true. But the flourishes (like spinning around to decapitate someone) took longer than a regular attack. There was an uninterruptable follow-through that left you vulnerable.

Killing Jarvia the first time took two extra attempts because of those stupid animations.

I just wanted to comment that Diablo 3 sold 20 million altogether so PC's aren't dead yet. :)

I suspect that finishing moves were removed because they were deemed too costly. They were pretty much unique for each weapon type in Origins, and DA2 replaced them with the unified exploding bodies animation.

And there's an easy way to avoid any problem with execution animations making a character vulnerable - apply them only to the last enemy of a given encounter. Simple. Or make the executing character invulnerable for those cool two seconds... it's not going to completely kill balance, it's a single player game anyway, no?

Did they include all of the world of warcraft 12 month commitment contracts in the 20 million figure?

But that's the only feature of DAO that was actually grounded and realistic. RPG combat is over-the-top because you can fight legions of soldiers quite easily. You can fight such legions because you don't get entangled with enemies. The deathblows were a small step toward realistic combat (but only if they triggered 100% of the time).
