But that's the only feature of DAO that was actually grounded and realistic. RPG combat is over-the-top because you can fight legions of soldiers quite easily. You can fight such legions because you don't get entangled with enemies. The deathblows were a small step toward realistic combat (but only if they triggered 100% of the time).

What's realisitic in the game is defined by the game's rules. If the rules that governed the deathblows had been documented, I wouldn't have objected.

Finishing moves are important, especially for melee combat, in DAO how many Ogres and High Dragons and or bandits/Darkspawn we have finished with different finishing moves based on the type of weapons?

I'm pretty sure the Warden will stab an ogre in the face with a mace.

With a war maul, as the Inquisitor, I beheaded a dragon in DAI.. I was like, "really..?"

I remember in Skyrim getting decapitations with war hammers, fun times

I just meant realistic in the sense of "simulation-like" which is typically how people seem to want to use that term. I agree with you otherwise.

I think that pretty much everything you do in Inquisition is assumed to be with a big sword in cut scenes. In Here Lies the Abyss, it's painfully clear with Hawke, should you choose to have him/her remain in the Fade. I backtracked a save just to see what it looks like, and her daggers magically turned into a longsword, so I was like nnnnope and went back to Stroud. If I didn't have a reason to save Hawke before, I do now lol

Guess they couldn't be bothered to make animations specific to the class

Or they just assumed everyone would choose Stroud/Loghain/Alistair lol

Because the higher-ups figured they could make more money, by appealing to as broad an audience as possible.

Oh please, they didn't even make ceremonial staff and animation for Lord Inquisitor initiation, so my mage was just swinging this sharp thing trying to look cool. And you're asking about maul/sword animations.
