I don't know if this is the right board for this, but this is the closest to a general multiplayer forum I could find, so here I go.

For about a week now, I've experienced a change in the public lobby system that has made it hard for me to enjoy multiplayer. For some reason, I'm practically unable to find any random players for a party; the "searching for group" thing will happen, but after a while I'll just be thrown into a group with just myself in it and it seems like no one will ever show up to fill the slots. I am positive I have the lobby set to public, and most of the time I only have the difficulty specified and the map random. However, if I happen to go random/random, I will sometimes manage to find my way into a Routine group with another person or two, but even this is rare. Has anyone else been experiencing this? Is this just an issue I'm having? Either way, is there any known way to fix this?

I've also noticed a pretty severe drop in people playing. Sort of surprised as I figured the bump with last a bit longer after the new patch/ dlc.

Its been pretty much impossible to find groups the are doing perilous of any sort. Shame as I finally feel sort of ready to get that banner finally!

I've had the best luck find peeps while playing threatening.

Are you on PC? If so name origin ID is MrMckillu.

Not the same situation for me. I've never been able to find so many perilous lobbies that fill so quickly. I am guessing that dragon loot gave people some much needed motivation for perilous.  :P

Perilous lobbies fill up quickly in afternoons, threatening always have people playing, rubber banding and ctd on the other hand...

Small playerbase + Region lock = no lobbies.

For me, who play from a third world region, there has never been a matchmaking worth speaking of. The whole thing is better if ignored altogether. 99% of my games are with friends.

Anyone who plays on PC at late nights can add me. Origin ID same as here.

It should really do a "searching for nearest game" then "searching for optimal game" then "searching for any game" function that it cycles through before placing you in an empty lobby..

What platform, continent and time are you playing?

OP, over on reddit /r/DragonAgeCoop they have a google spreadsheet and form (on the sidebar) for players on each platform to list their IDs along with timezones and country. You could try messaging people in the list in your timezone to see what times they tend to play and if they'd mind an origin friend request?

I'm too shy and sorta anti-social to do that myself though, so lol I've been pug life since day one. Threatening and routine lobbies aren't plentiful, but I usually don't have a problem finding at least a few. For perilous castle, on average I'll only find a successful lobby once or twice a day, in the late afternoon to early evening. "Successful" being a group that, while usually taking a lot more time to clear than I'd like (low overall dps or people running all over the place...with low dps/utility), at least manages to finish.

But anyway, it's not just you. The region-locked matchmaking is severely borked. It needs to do what scene_cachet describes above, and it needs to actually expose the process as it's happening. Don't hold your breath for any improvements in that area, though.

Either the reddit list, or talking with some of the people here who have offered their origin ID or are inquiring about your info, are your best bets if you want more games than what quick search comes up with.

ETA: Oh, there's also the Looking For Group subforum here, I forgot that even existed.

Imagine not being in an empty lobby ever again if it used a proper matchmaking system... A system that even tested connection so no one would ever rubber band again because the system would know who had the best connection to host and switch to them....

Oh, what a beautiful world that would be.

Peer to Peer requires a decent connection on both ends. Not everyone has that unfortunately.

However, with the OP being in europe, he should have access to plenty of lobbies. I know I do.

Check if you have all the updates, including the update to the Destruction DLC. If you are on PC, turn on auto updating in Origin.

Yes, but if the host has a bad connection, it means everyone has lag as apposed to one person who is not hosting having a bad connection effects only that player and not the rest.

Sure, you might see that player teleport or be stuck in place, but that doesn't effect me as much as a laggy host.

Also Southern and Eastern Europe has terrible internet so he might not have plenty of people to connect to due to having terrible ping.

I get lobbied with the slavic countries all the time, so I'd not want to pose such a general statement, they do not warp around in my lobbies at least.

We're 6 months part release so I'd say it's working as intended. And no, it's not an uncommon problem.

As Drasca says:

And are you sure you have downloaded both DLCs?

The timing strongly suggests he's missing a DLC or update of some kind...I experienced the same restricted matchmaking on PC last week before quickly realizing I had to 'purchase' and download the DLCs. But yeah, this info would help the most.

Yeah, but you have 1337 Danish internet.

Even my sucky UK connection works well with a Danish host.

This weekend was particularly awful for finding matches. USA, middle of the day on a weekend and my search for a threatening lobby results in me, alone as a leader 5 times in a row?

Also had several drops during games and that $%^&$ empty map on wave 5.

Maybe you need to update the Destruction DLC - worked for me. For that, set Origin to autoupdate games.

That's too logical. In other words, bioware will never do it.

You're right, only super cool MP games do this with super cool devs....
