Do we have an approximate release date for this game?

Like, Q4 15, Q1 16, etc.?

Also, is this Arktheory thing true? If it is, do you have a source that I can read?

No release date has been given. A leak claimed the game will be set in Andromeda. http://www.neogaf.co...d.php?t=1031314

I'll let you use your own judgment on whether that sounds truthful or a fabrication.

Arktheory is just a theory on how they will get to Andromeda. It was actually developed before the leak however, largely as a way of avoiding the ME3 endings.

Virtually nothing about the game has been confirmed other than the Mako is in it.

The experts here at the FBI Bioware Forums have given their estimates for anywhere between Q2 to Q4 of 2016. But we must say, info is hard to come by  B)

BioWare has been tight lipped about the game itself, this is what I believe has been confirmed.

1) The Mako will return

2) The N7 moniker will be part of the main character's background (at least I believe that has been confirmed)

3) Its the Montreal team working on the game, which has done parts of past Mass Effect games and some team members moved to that studio.

4) They worked with the Dragon Age: Inquisition team during its development

5) It won't be during EA's current fiscal year (ending the March 2016)

Anything else is based on leaks and not guaranteed to be accurate for it hasn't come from BioWare directly and even what we do know can always change during production.

BioWare won't talk about the game too much and I can understand that will all the flack they got here and other websites with how they "mislead consumers", "lied" or anything along those lines because of comments made before Mass Effect 3's launch and not combine that with how people and a couple of articles on the internet lamenting about what kind of game Dragon Age: Inquisition would have only been like based on content that was clearly labeled as pre-alpha.

Over 4 years without a new game. And people thought EA would milk the Mass Effect franchise like there was no tomorrow.

I don't know how or why, but as of late EA has had a massive turn-around in terms of their policies. Giving extended development times to blockbusters like Battlefield Hardline and Dragon Age Inquisition, not rushing titles in production like Mirror's Edge and the next Mass Effect into release. It seems like they are trying to shake off the bad reputation they got for rushing titles like DA2 and Battlefield 4.

Good on them, but it feels like a punch in the gut to imagine what ME3 would have been like had EA been so nice in the past (not asking for another ending, but more content would have been great)

I just hope the next Mass Effect does well enough to justify all the time spent on it. While I appreciate the extra dev time, the longer it goes on, the bigger the expectations there must be on EA's part. But at least the dev's have actual time to meet those expectations (as well as ours  ;) )

Isn't this that studio's first full-length game? They probably need this time to get into the swing of things. And hopefully they're using all of this time to make better content than they did with the Omega DLC. Yeesh.

I do believe this is their first full title, but at the same time I don't think they had the same level of staff then as they do now either.  Now I could be remembering wrong, but I think they have been working on aspects of the Mass Effect franchise since Mass Effect 2.

I don't think the studio existed when ME2 was being developed. The studio was still being put together in late 2009 and ME2 was released in January 2010.
I think their first project was the multiplayer for ME3 and their first experience with single-player content was Omega.

Yeah, from what I remember, Bioware Montreal has been supporting Bioware Edmonton ever since ME2. Yanick Roy was one of the assistant producers for ME1 and worked with Casey Hudson until they offered him a position to help build Bioware Montreal. They were much smaller back then and mostly helped with art and some N7 side-quests. Then came ME3, where their role grew and they were in charge of a good part of the multiplayer component and got more involved in important stuff like gameplay.

Omega was their first stand-alone product. I haven't played it to give my opinion on it, but apparently it was pretty good from a gameplay point of view. Just need some work on QA bug testing as well narrative help.

And like you said, before the studio was rather small. It's only recently that they grew as a studio and stared hiring some bug leads from around the industry, so it will be interesting to see what they come up with.

Narratively I thought Omega was like a blockbuster movie than a ME-style story, it didn't quite fit the rest of ME3 but it worked for something Aria and Omega focused, Nyreen was also a well made character. That DLC really shines though in the level design, scale and combat - it kind of blows the doors off the rest of the game in those areas.

I cannot decide if I like or dislike that it's set in the Andromeda galaxy....too many "how's" and "why's".

...like how the hell did Humanity managed to travel between galaxies when they've been a spacefaring race for less than half a century. Or how "salarians" and "krogan" (not to talk about known ME trilogy characters) will also be present there. Or how will they maintain any kind of communications between galaxies.

I don't know...it just seems like if they're going from 'low' to 'high' sci-fi here.

That's not confirmed yet.

Who says they would? Interstellar communication is difficult in the ME universe so intergalactic communication would probably be impossible.

Travelling at hundreds of times the speed of light in a frigate and being shot from one side of the galaxy to the other in seconds is "low" sci-fi?

I agree, the way I describe Omega has always been a two hour story stretched into a three hour DLC.  At the same time I think it was stretched a bit because people were wanting longer missions and DLC so they added more combat stretching out the DLC, but unable to expand the story they were given.  Now I just wish it didn't ruin my experience with playing a Vanguard, but that is a completely different story.

Omega had a bit too much combat-to-story ratio for my liking. I get somewhat overwhelmed with how long those trips with Aria and Nyreen are every time I play it, as did my ex from what I remember. But neither of us are really quite as into the battling side of the franchise as many fans, so I imagine it's still somewhat of a rare reaction.

It's really pretty, though, and the new enemy types are fun.
