And that is why the main game may start a generation or so after arriving.
But why would they wait a generation? What reason would they have to do nothing for a generation?

They are not doing nothing. Where did you get that from?
I said "If the game is about setting up multiple new colonies" so I am assuming you are not questioning that?
Say 100,000 or less people arrive in Andromeda (I tend to think it will be much less, but my argument will hold for many more). How many planets do they need. The answer is 1 garden world. What is the advantage in colonising other planets before they are ready?
They need to set up housing, farmland, power, hospitals, factories, shipyards, mining facilities, research facilities, defense installations, markets, bars and clubs, schooling etc etc. Doing all this on multiple worlds would be an absolutely moronic allocation of resources.
Any exploration done at this point would simply be done with an eye to the future rather than establishing additional colonies now.

If we are going to Andromeda in an Ark, I hope they show the moments of departure. That would be a really emotional moment. Scrambling to get to the Ark. The extraordinary sadness of the people at leaving the Milky Way. Thinking that the Reapers may very well wipe it all out. The losses they've already endured. Fear of what's in store. Shock over the whole situation.

This. There's a lot of good stories you can get out of the journey itself.
I didn't say anything about colonizing many worlds right away, but they would have to scout potential "Goldilocks" worlds to find the right one, like in Interstellar. Finding the right one and contending with hostile native enemies is a perfect game if the story is about colonization.
Then you should have responded differently to my post since that was the basic premise of it and right at the top.
The reason I used that as an assumption is that the leak is absolutely littered with hints that creating colonies will be a major focus of the game...
"To survive and colonize the wild reaches of space,"
"As you explore this sprawling series of solar systems (over 4x the size of Mass Effect 3), collecting resources and building colonies,"
"For example, when a Krogan colony ship has been stolen by one of the outlaw factions leaving the colonists stranded without resources to survive"
"As you develop more colonies, resource bases and settlements,"
"Players fight together to survive increasingly difficult enemy attacks and accomplish objectives, like disabling a bomb near a colony base"
"As you build permanent settlements, you will make strategic choices on where to focus your new base’s resources."
"Whether you are looking for a place to set up a colony, searching for a Remnant vault or attacking a Khet Outpost, you will enjoy getting there in your Mako."
The way I'm envisioning it is that you all take off in the ark. All the reps of the races are on it. Probably set up like wards in the Citadel. Then you have scouts going out in obviously much smaller ships.
Let's say you find a planet that may be good for industrial purposes. You report back. Get a team together to go down and start setting it up. It can even become a lil hub. Then you go back out and do more scouting for other planets. And so on.
But while some people are down on one planet getting things started, you and your immediate crew keep scouting for more locales for various reasons.
So the player character would be the leader of the expedition? Nah, why would he participate in dangerous missions then? Plus I think Shepards role and importance was already owerdrawn. I don't want to play space Jesus again (nor space Moses), I want to be the underdog this time.
Our character will be called Noah, because he/she noah's a lot.
...What is this supposed to be offering that the original leak does not? I'm not seeing anything that looks like an improvement here. Just a bunch of contrivences piled up on one other.

I wonder how far we can take this symbolism.
edit: Ahem. Forget this. Nevermind... I'll not take this too far. I'll just say that these biblical symbols suck sometimes. ![]()
Read my comment again. I merely pointed out that there won't be a major presence of trilogy races right after arrival. I even added that it can be both good and bad, depending on a perspective. You were the one trying to bring interactions into the discussion for some reason. Also, major presence =/= domination. This is nonsense. All you want in window dressing. Why would you even want the new setting to be so dominated by the old races? It's like moving to the house right across the street to get a new lease on life.
I have to say i'm not a particular fan of the use of convenient temporary wormhole to get to Andromeda. I'd very much prefer the cryo route.
Wormhole right next to the Citadel and Shepard didn't know?
Nahhh
I don't usually do "This" comments, but when I do, it's in response to posts like This.
The isolation and whatnot is actually why i like the idea, could prove interesting to explore. As to "human" error, well, what about mechanical error? Hopefully nothing goes wrong in the automated systems, but if it does then it will fall to a well trained crew to fix the problem. Redundancy.
Hm, that would just make it harder to explain why the PC's always on the ground team. I don't see it happening.
AIs would react faster.
It would only be harder to explain if the PC is a super important ship commander again. I get the sense he won't be.
They wouldn't even have to appear. It was an event from ME3. The Ark project is concurrent with ME3 in this idea. Get over it.
So pick the next highest rank or make one up. Stop getting bogged down in irrelevant details.
What's the difference? Now or later, what does it matter? If they're not Reapers then what is the problem? If the Andromeda galaxy doesn't get reaped every 50,000 years then there could easily be a race or races that are millions of years old.
First off, why so hostile?
You never indicated the Cerberus attack would be told and not shown. I do have to ask what the point is then, though.
The difference is we get a break from dealing with ancient races for a while.
Yes it does. The Reapers developed and built the Citadel and Mass Relays to maximize the efficiency of the harvests. They didn't get it from the Leviathans or elsewhere.
What's the exact quote for that information? I'm betting it can be reinterpreted quite easily.

But would it be able to do anything? What if manual repairs are required and the mechs are malfunctioning? What if its shackled, with limiters in place that prevent it from acting, requiring a crew to carry out certain tasks.
How could one be in charge of the Ark and not be a super important ship commander?

Then there would be contingencies for waking up an appropriate crew member.
Technical expertise perhaps? An expert would have authority on certain things but could also conceivably do many things themselves.
That or a playable team, which I think is the better solution.

Unless the wake up systems are what's damaged. No, better to have a crew member awake ready to respond promptly. It needn't be continuous, they can stay out in shifts.
I still prefer commanding a small scout ship, more believable independence and autonomy.

That's an ongoing impracticality vs a pretty unlikely one off event. There would be several redundancies built in in any case.
We've already done the small ship thing. I'd be interested in something new.

Yeah that doesn't say it invented the relays, just that it told the Reapers to build them. Like I suspected, there's room for retcon.

If you build something (that endures), it's safe to say it's your legacy. Doesn't mean it's also your idea.
If only Sovereign's words had been adhered to as tightly in other matters though....

We have quotes from both the Reapers themselves and the Leviathans that the Reapers are the ones who thought up, designed, and built the Mass Relays. Not to mention multiple Codex entries. The Mass Relay's are the Reaper's invention. They can't justifiably retcon that like you want.
You have quotes that say they build them. You don't have quotes that say they invented them.
And the codex is written in-universe. It can be wrong.
