Combat is so... Clean and sanitary. Inoffensive and happy.

That's because you haven't mastered it like Vivienne :P

Lol she's my best Knight Enchanter! I always end up as a Rift Mage and better than Solas.

DAI is probably the one time in the series where archery was fun for me.

The fact that they're the most powerful class in the game was just icing on the cake.

I always played a Mage in DA games (in online games I was always a Mage too, just a thing with me), but in DAI they made Rogues such a fun option, I hardly ever play anything else anymore. My canon is a Female Elf Rogue Archer Assassin who wears the June Vallaslin.

In DAO they had clothes on during sex with questionable body/face movements/expressions that left little to the imagination, but we get frontal and back nudity in DAI without actual sex (okay maybe that one scene with Sera is a bit graphic, but not by much). You have to sacrifice one for the other.  :P

If I give you a like, will you direct me towards the Disney-licensed dvds featuring on-screen sex scenes?

For research and evidence, of course!

There's less dirty in Orlais. I'm sorry, but you'll just have to cope.

Well you do see the aftermath and it's not pretty, especially in the Exalted Plains. Many bodies and the codex entries are pretty detailed. The quest to find notes from dead people to their loved ones really hits hard on the reality of war too.

yes lots of bad things happen that you read about in notes found. What happens if don't find that house that has that note or you miss the note on the ground that describes something terrible that just happened. Or if the player takes the advice of the Devs and saves portions of the maps for another PT?

Yes, in a video game I want to read about the story my character is in. I think not.

Many of us explorers truly enjoy it and through that we see the darker and deeper side to the game others miss, so I'm glad I take the time to search, explore and have fun with it. Bashing my way through each area, trying to complete a very short main quest is just a waste of time and takes away from what the game was meant to be. DA is more than just a video game, it's got a lot more to it and has a storyline that's just amazing imo.

I know I wouldn't be able to sleep with Celene unless we both had visors down. A man has his limits.

DA2 was still heavily quasi-iso even if it looked more actiony. DAI is the first time it's really played actiony, which why I dislike it a lot since I'm one of those iso>everything else kind of people. As I've said before, my idea of game heaven would a DA game with Divinity: Original Sin's combat.

hightlighted in bold. DAI is trying to be an action game but it is still a hybrid. Trying to be all things to all people. IMO for it to be an action game combat needs to be fluid. Your character needs to 'dance' with the enemy not run up to the enemy come to an abrupt stand still cast your spell, run to the next spot and repeat. At least with the archer you can somewhat move and shoot at the same time.

Notice how the corpses are all skeletal and in DAO they had flesh? I bet they are the same ones strung up by the Darkspawn and decayed after 10 years.

I noticed this too, actually. Like I said, not super horrifying.

The defenders of the game can say nothing has changed, but it doesn't make the combat feel satisfying or make the game feel like it's not toned way down in terms of grittiness. Gaider's influence, I'd think.

I love to explore, but for me the side quests were so much fluff. Most didn't even have dialogue, nevermind companion specific dialogue that makes you want to play them again to hear new things.

If I had to describe DAI I'd say it was empty and inconsequential, and coming from someone who loved DAO and even da2 so much, that took time to admit.

How much say does a lead writer have when it comes to combat? I'd think none, so blaming Gaider seems pretty baseless.

I think you're being sarcastic and fair enough, but man, the sex scenes in DAO were deep in the uncanny valley. Those dead eyes and poorly animated bodies (shudder).

DAO still blew DAI out of the water in combat, in skill options, in tactics (on, off, and more often are not tactics)... In terms of combat, really satisfying flowing combat that feels real and responsive, DAI is years behind.

Possibly, but DAO also had a tone of useless skills

in tactics (on, off, and more often are not tactics)

Eh, I'd say it's draw imo

This. My biggest issue with DAI. They tell me about the great battles with the demons at the end of the game while I'm in the temple. They tell me about the warden's adventures. They tell me about the tragedies that are happening in the land, they tell me what's happening in the cities like Denerim and Val Royeaux with the people. They say so much, they give me so many codex entries and letters.

I don't get to see any of it, I'm busy mining rocks and fighting bears, and occasionally delivering flowers or ashes because a note on the ground told me to.

+2 power, quest complete.

I want to SEE more of the story I'm involved in, and the main story is rediculously short.

Oh it was basic alright, but it was also years ago. And I had more then four skills, you could do some very cool things that few games offered. DAI just feels lame and outdated, hell, they even dropped the tactics menu making your companions even dumber then the ones in origins.

I mean, the day I see the enemy coming and Solas doesn't waste my barrier 20 seconds before I need it (without turning his dumb ass ai off, that is) will be a very good day. Compared to DAI, it flowed. At least if he was in origins varrick would use his backflip Melee escape ability when he was being hit, rather then at the start moments before he died.

It hasn't aged well, but DAI didn't even start well. And it still has FAR more options then inquisition does. Yes though, time passing does matter.

And again, everything I killed didn't just slump over like a bag of potatoes upon death. Even the dragons just go "whump" in inquisition. Kind of a bummer.

You didn't understand my post. You can be that explorer truly enjoying your surroundings going slowly and savoring every single moment and still miss an important note on the ground or in a house or a cave.

I'm saying why I enjoyed it and got fulfillment from it. People like me liked it and enjoyed it more for those reasons, and the lore too. And the fun part for me is missing something so I can play it again and find the new stuff. I find DAO was straightforward and DA2 was repetitive, but DAI keeps you seeking more, and for someone who has been hooked on that since Zelda, it's just my thing. I also was a beta tester for SWTOR (can't play it anymore sadly thanks to bandwidth issues) and I think DAI is a lot more like that than its predecessors. Including that horrible keyboard control. I miss point and click but understand it can't be done for DAI.
