Perhaps they should just increase the Guard generated by his abilities? That way he doesn't outclass the Katari who has Guard-on-hit. I think that could be a great help without going too far.

What they really need to do is bring guard in line (somewhat) with barrier, automatically giving all warrior classes more survivability. They would definitely need to tone down the katari's guard gen if they did this though, that guy is a monster
