Still finding my way around DAO so a couple of questions,

Unlocking Arcane Warrior i am playing a Mage and i thought i had unlocked it at lvl 7 when i reached the mage tower and i chose it. But i was reading a guide and it said i had to unlock it in game. So do i need to do something else or is the guide out of date.

Fatigue how does it work i know if i wear heavy Armour it does up. But what happens if it goes too high on my alt. Can i not fight or cast spells and how do i lower fatigue do i need to rest regularly or will i need not to be active for a bit.  .

You unlock the Arcane warrior during the Nature of the Beast quest , in the elven ruins you come across a vial containing an old elven spirit he gives you the knowledge for releasing him . Fatigue affects casting of spells or stamina the higher it is the more it costs to use a spell or talent . As a mage you should not wear heavy armor until you gain the Arcane talent even then its better to stick with mage robes that enhance your spells and mana , best to play as a warrior if you like heavy armor .

Combat Magic has a very high fatigue cost in 50% and early on you'll miss more than you hit .It's really only comes into its own after you get the other abilities in the spec.

Unless of course you only want it for the ability to wear weapons/armor. In that case. look for low fatigue armor sets like Cailan's Armor Set. You can also add fatigue reducing runes in Awakening, keep an eye out for them.

The Matriarch's Armour from the Phoenix Armoury mod was pretty much made for mages. And it looks awesome.

If you've unlocked the Arcane warrior once, its unlocked for all future playthroughs (or at least it is for me)

Adding to the above, Fatigue is also increased by using sustainable talents and spells, eg. Shield Wall, Rock Armor. The penalties keeps on stacking additively. You can keep fighting even with a very high fatigue; resting, remaining inactive, hanging around in camp has no effect whatsoever on fatigue.

Thanks for the replies. The armour looks very nice much better than the stuff Bioware gives you. I am thinking of doing a play through without mods. Then add mods on my second playthrough.

Any advice on what mods to get.

Any advice on what mods to get.

I heartily recommend those types of mods that fix dialogue/misfiring plot flag issues, like Zevran Dialogue Fix or IRS Alistair.  Beyond that, there are lots of good armor mods and mods for hair/skin/makeup on Nexus.  I don't use a lot of game altering mods as those tend to break the game when they don't play nice with others.  The more intrusive into the code it is, the worse it gets it seems.  Check the readme's before installing anything to see if there are known incompatibilities, and even then, use your best judgement.

I'd also recommend downloading the toolset and tootling around with it--there are tutorials on the Toolset wiki.  I learned how to make my own appearance mods and retooled a lot of the NPCs in the game to look 'better' to me.  It's about all I was able to manage with my computer illiteracy, but it was a lot of fun and kept the game fresh for me.

Welcome to Dragon Age and have fun!

I don't tend to use a lot of mods either @sylvanaerie I have a few hair mods that I can acessthrough the character creation  to give my character a few different looks to play with but that's all I do have.

Unless you're into closely managing mods, keep the number small and always read the authors description closely to avoid issues.

I generally stick to a few well used and proven mods (like ZDF & MRP & DT) to fix some game 'bugs', and play with a few appearance mods.  I did use a lot of mods at one time, but after you're forced to go through the hassle of game that's apparently corrupt (with a consequent reinstall) you become very cautious.

I run a lot of mods. I quickly identify what does not work for me and uninstall it. All the mods I use work in harmony together and I would not play without them. I add new mods one at a time, so I will know which one is causing any problems. You can play the game with multiple mods without any issues.

Go take a look over at the Dragon Age Nexus. Most of the mods have notes about compatibility at this point. If you are careful when you install each mod and heed the advice given, you should be fine.

By way of a guide to mods, Lady Karrakaz has written an excellent one (link is to the old BSN forum). She does not use the ZDF mod, which I do. I recommend it highly as well.

One other point, mods that do one thing specifically, such as whiten teeth, are less likely to cause compatibility problems than mods that change many things.

I did not use any mods on my first play-thru. Then, on my second play, I only used Dahlialynn's royal wedding. After that, I went crazy adding them. LOL :D And as new ones became available.. I added them too if they interested me. the main ones I started with are the hairstyles and eye textures (presets for character creator also)..makeup and armors. Then I added game-play enhancers (advanced tactics etc..) THEN I added some cheats (Golden Egg DAO and Awakening by Angel and Attribute Talent Skill Books Add by Kirby Skywalker.

There are so many great mods out there and only so many times you can play the game. LOL
