Did he just rip off the Mass Effect logo? Anyway this movie will be based on the Valerian and Laureline comic. Hopefully Valerian, Star Wars, and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 are successful and help start a space opera Renaissance. That would convince them to make a Mass Effect movie.

Hmm, Luc Besson has seen better days, much like Ridley Scott. Glazer's Under the Skin is a much better sci-fi film with Johansson then Lucy was.

Don´t know about this. I´ve read a few of the comics, and while fun, they are also quite heavy handed with the author´s ideas.

Eh, for every half decent movie Luc Besson makes, he makes two crap ones. Take any anticipation for this with, like, a whole bag of salt.

I'm 110% on board.

The good thing about Luc Besson movies is that even when they're bad, they're so bad they're good.

Okay, the Taken franchise is a bit... well, anyway. Nobody's perfect.

Pure sci fi is dead. These days, sci fi has to be paired up with something else. For example, sci fi action, sci fi horror, sci fi thriller, etc. It also seems to help if it's an adaptation.

What's "pure" sci-fi?

Works that focus on hard sci fi at its core, with maybe bits from other genres on top. Old school Star Trek, 2001, Interstellar, etc. Sci fi is all about possibilities, and that's what pure sci fi focus on.

These days, pure sci fi more or less only exist in niche literature form. Mainstream sci fi is used primarily as backdrop for other genres, such as action, drama and thriller. Star Wars, new Star Trek, new Battlestar Galactica, and pretty much every superhero film or TV show ever made.

There is no way you can seriously use hard sci-fi and old school trek in the same sentence. I'll give you Interstellar, but no way is Trek even within a 100 feet of hard sci-fi.

Star Trek may not be strictly hard sci fi but it is pure sci fi; it focused on possibilities, and possibilities are what sci fi is all about. Think of it this way; where there are gaps in our real-world scientific understanding, pure sci fi uses these gaps as an opportunity to dream. That's exactly what old Star Trek did; it dreamed.
