Blair, Luke & everyone else involved,

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all. No snark, no cynicism.

Don't take this the wrong way, but with the current video game landscape, I don't think anyone would have truly expected you guys to do more or less exactly what most of us wished for. As far as I'm concerned (though that's the headline of all of this, so I'm not gonna repeat it again) in the last few weeks, you basically turned the whole thing around.

You changed this MP from something that most considered to be a nice idea, yet clinically dead & abandoned, into an exciting thing that feels like it's pulsating with life, constantly being maintained & improved upon (some baby steps, some Godzilla leaps); but most importantly, you're here with us. Both directly and indirectly.

I know it isn't always wise for a developer to be too close to his playerbase (I greatly dislike the term customer when speaking about the vanity that is video games), and sometimes we can make your life hell over something you cannot really influence directly, or give direct answers to. But I hope you're seeing that we can be as merry as we can be furious, and how the general climate in the forums improved greatly just for the dialogue.

I actually think we're just getting started creating a great community around a game, which as you showed for starters with the Dragonslayer DLC, can evolve into something at least as unique as MEMP.

So for all that, I thank you greatly.

P.S.: For obvious reasons, I am more sentimental than usual today. And since I'm allowed to live in a privileged first world country, this is apparently how I'm expressing that.

P.P.S.:

Spoiler

Seconding this enthusiastically. Played a bit yesterday and caught myself thinking, "This is exactly what I wanted all along." After a month or more hiatus I find myself actually wanting to play for an hour or two after work. The weekly balance patches, the additional content, the improved loot system (Tier 3 schematics!!!), etc. I might actually be able to convince some family members who tried it for a few weeks and shelved it to get back into it.

I don't know who or what was responsible for this new direction for DAMP (on the dev side of things), but I'm really grateful for it.

Too little too late. Loads of people left this game when bioware decided to go on holiday for 3 weeks and left a game breaking key bug rampant for months.

Schematics were supposed to be weekend event rewards aswell. Consider how much dlc content me3mp had at this point in its cycle. DAIMP has 3 characters, 1 new map and some animals.

Me3mp had 34 new characters at the point (7 months in), 13 new maps, 2 new match objectives, a new difficulty and 15 new enemies including the collector faction. Not to mention new gear, consumables and weapons.

This is what the game should have been like months ago.

Thirded. Re-occuring balance changes, new classes, maps, loot and schematics... I'm actually having a hard time putting the controller down to focus on real life.

Edit: @apocalypse_owl: yeah I get what you're saying but I'm just so happy something is finally happening. Besides, I see new players joining every day.

What I like is how good the new 3 classes are from a unique sense and mechanics perspective.

I hope all the old classes eventually get overhauled to be more unique like these 3.

I started DAIMP on New Years Day and have discovered some of my best gaming moments since.
The last 2 weeks has brought a fantastic new atmosphere to the whole brand; pro's getting their just reward and noobs being given the resources.
The steps forward with community involvement through Donuts and St BFriday
Finally made me sign up to BSN after weeks of lurking.

Applause to all involved in improving the DAIMP experience. I hope our future is as big as the Maul of the Dragon :D

As someone who has been overly critical of this game.... I am happy to say that most of my concerns have been addressed, balanced and supported.

I hope BW takes what they have learned from this experience with dabbling with MP in this DA and go on to make an amazing MP in DA:I 2 ( also dedicated for DAIMP2 please).

I know going forward we have maybe a new a faction and map and possibly new armour, however, I suppose we have got to the final boss stage of high dragons on equipment progression we'll not be seeing much except for tweaks and one more DLC.

Anyway, good job, the game is finally great and I feel like i have something to work towards, killing High Dragons to get gear as apposed to casino RNG chest system.

Too little?

 - on balance probably yes.

Too late?

- certainly not, I'm loving the last few weeks particularly.

And whilst I have left single player Thedas for a time (after 4 play throughs),

particularly after Tuesday,

I will be back supporting the agents of the Inquisition each weekend.

Same. Ive been playing since launch and i love the game more than ever. You can't deny that the population has significantly declined though. Even on the new map, finding perilous lobbies is very difficult. Always has been but sometimes i just cant match anyone. In me3, i can find a platinum lobby any hour of the day with no issues within a minute or two.

I know lots and lots of people who were disappointed by the poor support in the first few months, so much so that they uninstalled forever.

If this dlc update was the first one to drop at Christmas , then we would have a much larger playerbase, im sure of it.

People like Penguin wouldnt have been banned forever and Mortiel would likely still be here too. All in all, the community would be so much healthier if bioware actually just communicated with us and didnt brand the people who actually spoke out and challenged them as rabble rousers.

Yeah, I see what you are getting at, but I'm getting the exact opposite image, still.

I don't doubt that some veterans burning through with quadzolenticozillion promotions left by now, but I have never seen as many new players (boldly assuming by no avatars, titles or banners, playing Korbin, Neria, Hall or one of the new three; as one is awarded for free) in Routine & Threatening lobbies as I do right now.

We have lost some top notch players, but at the same time, are building sort of a second generation.

The changes are nice but they mean nothing if you cant find anyone to play with - I struggle to find threatening lobbies these days which is worrying...

Penguin is still banned?? If they've really improved, why not unban him. It's not as if he's no longer inactive in the DA:I community.

Wan't there an issue with dragon loot not dropping on the PS4? Some BSNer informed them but they didn't admit it and silently fixed it.

What about the black screen of death and the UI not appearing?

What about the way the matchmaking works which has some sort of region locking? In ME3, it matches you up with anyone anywhere in the world. In DA:I, there's some sort of restriction which is why there's different reports on how alive the community is. By segregating the community, it makes it feel like there's less people playing. And in some regions, it feels dead.

A good sign would be if a developer admitted some shortcomings and be more transparent. They've done none of that. I'm not saying that this makes them bad developers. But it's certainly not something to be thankful for.

The fact is that ME3MP has set the bar and they fell way short of it. People thought that ME3 was a success and that more effort would be put into DA:I MP. This is still such a missed opportunity.

I've never thanked the dev in ME3 in a post but every DLC, I'll spend at leas $20 as a form of appreciation. I'll never ever spend any money on this MP out of principle.

I agree, but I've never had a real problem with it before. I've enjoyed the MP for what it is, and now enjoy it even more for the additional content.

So called "region locks" are there to increase stability. I actually turn them on whenever I can, cause my own connection is bad enough. For that reason, I never host public games out of mere politeness.

What effect would that have? They admitted to shortcomings sufficiently enough by directly adressing them. That's all I need.

I said I was thankful for them communicating with us. I am also thankful for them making them game, even at launch state. I don't have time to play a game I'm not thankful for.

The fact that they have to have a region lock unlike in ME3 and the game is still way more unstable than ME3 doesn't tell you anything?

I want to refute your other points but I understand that this is a feel-good-thread and I don't want to be more of a party pooper than I already am.

It tells me that the game runs on frostbite 3.

Dieb,
thanks for this opportunity.

Because as busy I was with complaining, I really should express my appreciation now.

I took a longer break from this game (reasons were all discussed long enough)
and when I came back (to the game and forum) to check the new DLC, I could not believe my eyes.

Of course there are still many things in this game that could be addressed,
but like so many people said: Most important is that you have the feeling of being heard
and that there is an active interaction here. And this has changed greatly!

Now I am almost embarassed at the extent and tone of some of our complaints,
but as furious as we all were, as forgiving we are, too.

It is sad what happened around some people, for exacmple Amelia + Penguin, etc.
Because they all meant well (I am sure...).

But these "pent-up and eventually boiling over emotions" normally cannot happen if there is an active
communication between the developers and players (the word "fan" doesn't come as easily as it used to do once).
