So I went to see the black emporium and I've found there a schematic for "Archon Fire Staff".

That is one gougers staff and I wished to craft one for my mage.

I was rather disappointed to see it has no upgrade slots.

Those items without upgrade slots are schematics dependent or materials dependent?

how does it work exactly?

Items without upgrade slots have large utility, offense and/or defense slots instead. Weapons like that usually do more damage. Giving them upgrade slots would make them overpowered. They may be a bit less flexible, though. You can craft them like any other item.

oh so in the bottom line it will be roughly the same as inferior one with upgrade slots.

ok.

Well, weapons and armor without upgrade slots can be great. I've given Cassandra and Blackwall a longsword based on the Avenger schematic. That one has no upgrade slots. The DPS of one-handed swords is a bit lower than that of one-handed axes, but the actual damage (used in most calculations), in this case 220, is higher. So, it works out really well.

Besides, it looks great.

Dorian has a fire staff, but he needs another one for fire resistant dragons. I've just bought the schematic that you wanted, to see if it is useful. My archer, who is an artificer, benefits from companions doing critical damage, which reduces her cool down times. So I came up with this:

Looks like a great staff to me. :)
