Good point.  There's also a message to be made that people in ISIS have options to defect instead of being stuck with them.

Though this is all dependent on two teenage girls with probably minimal if any knowledge of the terrain and money somehow getting away from a bunch of crazed yahoos with guns and sharp implements roaming the countryside.  I'm a little doubtful.

If they're completely on their own, I'd agree. If they have a basic cell phone, and we are talking about Iraq-Syria and not the Hindu Kush so it's not that hard to get one, they have a pretty decent chance all things considered- if a government feels like springing a helicopter and SF team to recover them.

A lot of it will depend on how much support they can get from the locals, and how willing or interested outside powers are in recovering them. Considering they're British with media attention and not, say, Algerian or Pakistani, they're much more likely to get that sort of support.

If they are willing to be used as propaganda tools to ward off young people from ISIS and militant Islamism while being under supervision/detention for an unspecified period of time, then I've got no objection for them to be brought back to the UK. If not, then they can stay in Mosul and rot. Deal with the consequences of their actions.

It's one thing to make a mistake, it's quite another to plot, plan and undertake a journey half way across the world for the specific purpose of joining a terrorist organisation whose calling card is beheading hostages and innocents.

That's the western media calling card. In other circles, ISIS's calling card is 'the first and foremost defenders of True Muslims against Asad,' followed by 'we got the Caliphate back, bro.'

Different things matter to different people. ISIS's grisly public theater isn't necessarily the most important one to everyone.

Hmm, that is a good point. But still, the two girls went far and beyond the realm of any mere "mistake".

You know, I bet there's an appropriate SJW topic about how ethnocentric you have to be to fixate on your own subcultures when talking about far-off foreigners who largely aren't even aware of it.

They just went to become baby factories and provide rear-line support for one of the more genocidal jihadi groups in the middle east. Nothing to put them in prison or any other kind of restraint for.
