Probably best to wait a few episodes in until we can really get a feel for the series.  The other DC TV series took a couple of episodes for them to find there footing so I see this as no different, though here it is on a different network with a different creative team behind it.

Her character is about someone who can level mountains plagued by the inner torment of losing her people and finding her place in a world where everyone expects her to be like her cousin! I think thay were going for a mix of 60s and 70s with Power Girl.

if thay had RedLantern / Pcychotic Beeeeeotch SuperGirl it wouldnt end well.

Sure, the first question is to understand what people mean by "to be a hero".

Speaking of Man of Steel, and putting it by common standards, I could be considered a hero for having set the table for lunch. I'm a superhero only when I'm doing it in the worst day of my life, while I have cancer plus HIV, and for people I hate with all my heart and I want dead.

Move it to a person with superpowers, and you got the analogy. There is no merit in doing something, even amazing by human scale, if you can do it without effort or sacrifice.
