I believe there was complaints directed towards Mass Effect's Jacob Taylor for this and I think I agreed after seeing some of the romance content.

Yeah, I hated that. I wanted Shepard to be his friend, because he seemed like an alright guy with a level head, but FemShep's auto-flirt was a huge deterrent so I just left him by his lonesome in the armory for most of the game. I think DA:I does a good job of leaving romance at the door so long as you do the same.

I don't know what to tell you other than Thedas is not our world, it's got different people, different percentages, and I don't understand why that's a problem. Sera and Dorian and Leliana, etc. are NOT "just there for their sexuality". They're nuanced characters with different roles in the story. That you and others are more focused on their sexuality doesn't negate the MANY, MANY other character traits they bring to the table.
And having more LGBT characters makes me feel more connected to the series, not less. I'm sorry if it's not the same for you.

Well if it doesnt disconnect you then theres no issue. Carry on. The game is fine for you. Its me it doesnt quite click for, and for more reasons than this.

Surely you wouldn't attempt to make the ridiculous claim that I'm obligated to find such people feminine, yes? You wouldn't demand that I find them attractive?

I'm trying to figure out where did this out-the-left-field retort come from.

I remember how unrealistic people were saying the even split on romance options were and how some characters were locked in ways that made it unbelievable or contradict how they were.

I also remember the talks about how some romances were left very simple and meaningless while others has much more put into them.

LMAO. I don't give a frig what you find attractive. Doesn't change the fact that trans women are real women.

You don't have a choice, if that's what your audience thinks.

Which they do.

Don't have a choice about what?

I promise you, nobody here is concerned about your boner, least of all me.

This is why players who make their Inqy straoght and male are always peeved, because Josephine's rpmantic subplot is fairly shallow, far from great, and a lot of people dont get along with Cassandra. Leaving them with medicocrity or nothing.

Simple logic?

Pretty much all fiction is built on exclusion. Particularly heroic fiction. People who try to deny it are usually delusional and always hypocrites.

The big triumphant kiss with the fireworks and the camera spinning around? Fat people do not get that. Ugly people do not get that. Mentally handicapped people do not get that. Transgendered people do not get that.

Those people can exist. They can get a few scenes where they appear and say their lines. But they're never 'equal' to the beautiful princess and the rugged warrior who get the kiss at the end.

And they shouldn't be.

This happened more than one might think.  I just finished one of many really good books that addresses gender and war.  Apparently there were a good number of women who dressed as men and fought in the American Civil War.  Only we mistakenly think they were so rare as to be not worth a mention because they have intentionally been ignored, the knowledge of them repressed, and swept under the rug because people had or have issue with acknowledging an existence that, for whatever reason, makes them uncomfortable.

Re:  http://www.brainpick...-the-civil-war/

Honey you're wasting your time here.

I think it may be fair to say that perhaps straight people are being neglected.

In the bulk of the audience's mind? I suppose.

Storytellers can still do whatever they want.

Sexuality is different, as this thread should make evident. The very personal nature of sexuality means people really relate to it. If theres a drastic disconnect (like if a large number of your cast isnt straight) it feels weird and not real.

Actually, a large number of a group of people not being straight isn't uncommon at all. Regardless...

"It feels weird and not real" Yeah, uh.... so? Why are your feelings more important than those of the LGBT community? Why are your feelings an acceptable reason to exclude people from certain content?

It does suck. It really, really does.

But forcing equality is a betrayal that doesn't help anybody.

Excluded from what, precisely?

Excluded from existence in stories? Okay, fair enough.

Excluded from being recognized as equal to certain other characters? That's dead on. They should absolutely be excluded.

For example, I will never find a MtF transgendered person, in fiction or in real life, 'feminine' in any positive, alluring sense. Those gates will always be closed to them. They are very clearly not equal at all to the femininity or the beauty or whatever of a 'real woman.'

Surely you wouldn't attempt to make the ridiculous claim that I'm obligated to find such people feminine, yes? You wouldn't demand that I find them attractive?

I seem to remember someone posting pictures of trans women and saying why can't Cass look like this. Oh and believe me those gates would never be open to you either.

I don't see how they're neglected. It depends of your opinion of the LI. I love Both Cass and Josie.
There's always the chance of the LI disappointing you. I don't see the relation with more LGBT content.

About whether a character is, say, beautiful or not. About whether a character has a quality or not.

You cannot force your audience to love a certain character or find a certain character attractive or a 'real woman,' no matter how much you want it, and that's the end of it. And if your audience feels you're trying to lie to them, they lose faith in you and stop buying your product.

I have a hard time wrapping my head around the kind of paranoia that leads you to believe Bioware is actively trying to screw you over. But their thought process seems to go along these lines, I think: I don't like my options, and other people have more options than ever; therefore both things must somehow be related. Never mind that, even if the former wasn't completely subjective, correlation does not imply causation.

Wow.

Your idea of fiction is boring as hell.

Plus I think Twilight covered most of that "x people don't get that" argument.
