For some reason I always dislike male romance (as in not for males, but romance with male characters) options Bioware creates. Even in their old games, like BG2. Their female romances are imho much better. In DA:O I even romanced Leliana, although I'm straight and played a female warden, but her romance was just so much better than Alistaire. In DA:I I tried to like Cullen but couldn't, and because my char is a human I couldn't try romancing any other male character, like Solas. And Blackwall... no, just no. Why are good male options always non-romanceable? *sheds tears* I'd give a lot to romance someone like Nathaniel Howe from Awakening or Minsc from BG2.
Computer romances I really like were not from Bioware's games. But if I have to choose from theirs... I guess Leliana. Very lyrical.

Zevran has a lot of fans for a guy who was apparently the least-picked LI in Origins.
Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. *✧₊✪͡◡ू✪͡
I didn't do many PTs with Zevran in DAO, mostly because the timing of the scenes felt off to me, but he's my favorite romance in any BW game. From DA, Isabella sis probably second, with Morrigan, Cullen, and Cass pretty close together for third. I admit, though, they still haven't written one I'd obsess over.

Because so few people gave him a chance. They either kill him before recruiting him, or recruit him but think he's nothing but a shallow @sshole without getting his approval up or even trying to understand him. And even for the few that get past that part, they still think he's nothing but a playboy who won't take a relationship seriously so they don't even try to romance him. So you have to give him a chance, get his approval up which most don't, and then trust him enough to start a romance which most don't. Lots of hurdles. But if you get that far, you realize that he's one of the most in-depth characters in the entire game with an extremely well done romance who's richness will surprise anyone not expecting it.
What this ends up doing is cause a fanbase that is small but extremely dedicated. He doesn't have many big fans outside of this board, but the fans he does have are fans for life.

Cassandra. Her romance was surprisingly sweet for such a serious and somewhat dour woman. I liked the contrast.

I would have never thought anyone would beat out Alistair but...Cullen.
It was great to watch him grow and change and THEN get involved with him, something you didn't really get to as much. Anders I guess, but he's so radically different, and you don't get to see the formative moments unlike Cullen.

Can't argue with that. He's my favorite, after all.

That's a very good summary of the reasons. I think you can also add that Alistair's romance is particularly appealing to people who want a male LI who is sweet and devoted, something you wouldn't expect from Zevran if you accept his behavior on the surface. And you can't ignore the fact that Alistair can make a Cousland warden his queen (and the only combination for a female player that leads to a marriage, which a lot of people liked.) I think Alistair was adorable, but for me he still needed DAI Warden Alistair's maturity and confidence on top of the humor.

I haven't ignored that about Alistair, I've done his complete romance and become queen a couple times. And the Warden's who romance Zevran don't want marriage, they don't care to have any kind of legal contract to saying they're together.

Alistair and Solas. Alistair because he was adorable and heart-wrenching during the first playthrough, and Solas because he was damn smooth, surprising, and heart-breaking... in every playthrough ![]()

Oops, I didn't mean it to sound like I said you'd ignored it, it was just a generic figure of speech. The only reason I ever played a Cousland was to put them on the throne. Though if I'd known at the time you could romance Zevran then have a state marriage with Alistair, I'd have done that instead (I rewrote one of my two Couslands in the Keep to create that as a WS for DAI in fact - Stroud refers to her as Alistair's queen, but all indications so far are that Zevran is with the Warden-glad they put that in there right.) Most of mine have no interest in legal ties either (but I try to create mine along a spectrum on most topics.)

Something weird about me when it comes to his romance, I only ever romance him as an elf. It's like I feel like different races should only stick with their own... Even though I have no problem having my elves and dwarves romance humans. I don't understand it myself, but I find that I am pretty strict about only my elven Wardens ever going for him.

Dalish, city, mage or all three? I ask because for some reason I can see a Dalish elf being draw to him very easily.

I would have to go with Cassandra, since its the only actual romance I've... well, I take that back. I did play both Morrigan's and Leliana's romances at the same time as my secondary character. Still, I think I'd have to go with Cassandra. There was just more character there. More passion and emotion, especially as a human mage.
With Morrigan and Leliana it all seemed rather, impersonal. But I guess I can't really say, since my mage romanced them both. He treated each like personal belongings, though he eventually went with Morrigan through the eluvian.
The only character I "romanced" one on one in Origins was Anora, which technically doesn't count. While I like the match between her and my Hero, there wasn't nearly enough content, and there should have been more.
So for now I have to go with Cassandra.

I can see that, considering some of the things in game. Oddly, I never completed a romance with him with an elf, and half my completed PTs were elves (two city, two dalish, two mages - though that wasn't on purpose, lol.) It was more a personality match for me, but I romanced Zevran with dwarves.

I'm fairly certain that most of the romance options throughout the series would be considerably problematic for most people if one tried to apply them to real life standards, though Morrigan's particular brand of blitheness in certain situations would probably be a bit unsettling for some.
It's when my mind says, "So why am I romancing her, again?" that sets her apart from some others.

All 3 if I'd ever done all 3... I've never actually done an elven mage in DAO before, and I don't like Dalish much because the origin is utterly lackluster which means I don't play it much.

You should try it with a city elf. I can just imagine Zevran's reaction when my Warden introduces Zevran as her not-actually-married husband to her father after saving him and asking him to give them his blessing.

Ah. Mage origin doesn't change, so if you played as human not missing much. And I love city elf. I remember the original art. The blood soaked bride. All 3 if I'd ever done all 3... That art has caused me to do the entire origin in the wedding dress before, even when it makes things much harder.
"My dress was red. It didn't start out red, but the events of my day have conspired to give it a new color job. The further I went through the estate, the redder it got. And when I reached that final room, the last finishing touches to the new dye color were finished."
