I cringe at my Quizzy wearing a man's Military outfit to an Orlesian Ball - Talk about being politically incorrect in a country that prides itself in playing the game... ewwuwww
Frankly, I am surprised they let me in looking like that... awful!
Why do you call it a man's military outfit? Because it has pants instead of a skirt? Pants aren't a strictly male article of clothing. And if Bioware had given male Inquisitors pants and female Inquisitors skirts, I'm sure there'd be complaints from players who don't want to see their female characters in skirts. I'm not a fan of the outfit myself, but I certainly don't think it's politically incorrect to have a common, unisex outfit for male and female military officials.

Having all styles available for both genders is a great idea, but they went about it horribly. Ideally, they would craft a bunch of good options for males and females, then after that make them open to both genders. It's more like they realized how few options there were are made a conglomeration of them to:
1. Appear to have an acceptable amount of options.
2. Appear progressive, when they're not.
What we ended up with were a lot of styles that women don't want to use, because of sideburns, balding or being too "masculine", and men don't want to use, because they're too "feminine", or again, have balding. There is also a serious lack of LOTR style medieval long hair for males.
It's a poor excuse not to have good options for anyone.

Point taken - I suppose it would be no better if they kept the jacket and put the women in a-line skirt LOL. To me it just looks like a man's suit and the men look very handsome in it... the women ... (IMO) - not so much.

I thought my Inquisitor looked pretty good in it, but I do think it looks better on the men. In my huge post, I said how it looks like it was made for human males and "stretched" for all the rest. Too many things are done like that ![]()

I'll start this by saying that I'm not a great wiz with the CC, and I also agree that many of the DAI hairstyles leave much to be desired (in addition to the texture, only somewhat better than the default Skyrim hair).
That said, there are a lot of hairstyles. Also, DAI has something that DAO and DA2 did not have, which is allowing hairstyles to be available to both genders. That alone is a boon. The options are there, we just don't like them. They can't do anything about that. There are a TON of DAO hair mods; an astounding variety. I dislike about 80% of those hairs, but that does not reduce the actual variety that exists.
As you said, there are really talented players that can do wonders with the CC. You or I not being one of them isn't really something that Bioware can do anything about. We don't have the capability to use the CC to its full potential and that is our failing. BUT, I will say that this particular problem would be mitigated with face codes, or even just numbers next to all of the CC options (complete with x,y coords for the boxes) that would allow us to more accurately copy another player's settings.
Unfortunately, slider settings and face codes was something requested numerous times in multiple threads during DA2 and during DAI development. It wasn't implemented. Whether that is because of a limitation with the Frostbite engine, lack of resources, or because the devs just weren't interested in adding this feature we will never know.
Ah you are correct (and I forgot about it): the CC codes. Those would have been a nice way to allow us to play other characters. I know I've seen screenshots with characters who's faces I found absolutely stunning, even with hair I normally would not enjoy. Those would have been a nice way to at least give us a starting appearance that looked nice with a particular hair.

Agreed, but at least we can work around it by taking shots of sliders. *Shrug*

Wouldn't that be nice? (well, I think it would be) Guess we'll see what happens. It just seems that if Bioware knew they weren't going to use them, they perhaps should have left the character models bald, or used other styles. And if they didn't know...well I suppose it's an awkward situation. Can't really say "Hey...yeah..those hairstyles. Sorry guys."
I like the braids though. I think it'd be a shame not to utilize them, if there isn't a technical difficulty standing in their way.

What I find almosr hylarious (if it didn't make me rage) is that more feminine styles like the braids have been taken out for the sake of "unisex" but not the tipically male characteristics =_=

There is the one similar to Varric. U_U with balding hairline. Same for the half shaved, ahlf longer hair. And the longher hair parted on the side have manly sideburns. All manly, it seem.

not long, that's firmly in the medium length for DA, especially compared to say Loghain's hair in Origins

Yet they are athe onger hair in the entire CC. And are quite evidently made with male characters in mind. There aren't others cuts longer. So I'd say the males got the longer cuts.

the first you quote is the one with manly sideburns. The second on row 3 one is short, barely chin lenght hair. (and I don't find it very feminine. is unkept and wild. never seen a comb, and I'd say is equally for male and female). The fourth on row two one is an abomination that does't even deserve to be seen. I can't see it as a feminine style, since I still can't understand what is it.
Basically, there are only the ponytail and the bun that have a little (barely) more femininity, since the braided one (Harding's) have a very hight hairlyne that is not very feminine. Remind a medieval japanese hairstyle.

the first is still hardly masculine as is the second I mentioned. They are much more similar to past hairstyles for female characters than male

Agreed. I can't even imagine what the person who created that was thinking. I can't believe any woman would willingly wear a style like that and if any hairstylist would cut my hair that way, I would sue them for all they have.

Well, they should always aim to improve, right? And they did, with the CC. It's spectacular. This thread doesn't disagree, it's just highlighting of of its aspects that is rather bad.
I'm usually getting very snarky about this topic, but thank you for clarifying that.
Since I, too, think that the character creator, when it comes to actually modelling faces, is incredible. What's more incredible to me, is that they look like actual people - whereas in most JRPGs people often like to reference, it's easy to add ten times the amount of non-editable, "fixed" things like hairstyles, because their art style or the engine is making everyone look like puppets or taking them for a hike twelve miles into uncanny valley.
I'm actually very glad about finally having normal looking short, yet afro-curled hair in a DA game other than those bloody cornrolls, because not all black people run around like rappers or Brazilian surf instructors.
I don't get the eyebrows complaint though. Sure, there isn't a lot that are neatly trimmed, but there are a handful which are, and just look "normal" and "good" on a woman. Even if I insisted on creating every new character with new eyebrows, there's enough that aren't as weird as some of the... well, admittedly, weird ones.
