Nah, that's very fitting! I wish I was more inventive and original with my names. I'm not very original in general actually. I'm creative, but I tent to work well if I modify something that already has a foundation. For instance, I think that I have good ideas about games, like potential balance or mechanical changes, or stuff like hair and outfits :P I also like doing artistic things like drawing, editing pictures to look different or better, playing music etc.

But I'm utterly incapable of composing even the simplest melodies on the piano. Anything I play will end up being a theme I know in a few notes. Likewise, I have trouble drawing images in my head; I can only copy. Which sucks, because I'd like to draw cool scenes or characters in dramatic poses  :P  Especially some of my favourite game characters all fighting together Avengers style. Bah, now I'm just blabbering

I can sing, although my range has dropped to a contralto (think the higher end of a slightly whiskey-sounding women's voice.)  I was in a band, once upon a time, but that didn't pan out.  No regrets though.

Here's my tips for character names.  Please bare in mind that I don't have as much experience with guy names, but I'll try to help there too. In all of these cases, google is a huge help.  I'll start with the ladies.  With the names based on stones or colors,  I also usually do either the hair or eyes to match.

--For dwarves, I prefer either the names of precious or semi-precious stones.  Chrysoprase is a very pretty mist-green gem that's similar to jade.  It got shortened to Chrys and named after her eyes.  Garnet got named for her hair.  I also find a name like Jasper a good gender neutral one.  There is a lot of types of Jasper out there.

--For elves, usually tree names (Aspen, Rowan, Willow,) or names based off of Celtic myth (for example, names like Brigitte)

--For human mages, for the ones that drink the well, I go with various names meaning "earth" or "mother" (Terra is one example, and yes you're free to steal it.)

--For human warriors, usually either names of famous female northern European warriors, or variations on "Valkyrie."  That's how Valena got her name.

--For human rogues, I'm not sure if I have a theme there.  Rya is one of my favorites.

--For qunari, I either go with Egyptian/Middle Eastern names, or I use this site: http://fantasynamege...hp#.VVvII_lVhBc

Now for the gentlemen.

--For dwarves, Rocknar, or anything related to hard stone.  Also, Scottish names can help.  I usually don't do that, due to dwarf stereotypes (like Oghren) getting tiresome for me.

--For elves, I go back to those based off of tree names.  Also, names meaning "fox," "wolf" or "great cat" are used.  I just google those and pick what I like.   :P

--For most humans, I just go with a few I've always liked in RPGs: Alex, Roland, Zeke/Ezkiel.  Otherwise, noble and/or names of royalty work well.  I snagged the name Auron from FFX.  Neeeeeeeeeerd.

--For human rogues, various bird names work.  Eagle, Hawk (my favorite,) or play on words for "cat," or "thief"

--For quanri, see above.  It's pretty much the same as the ladies for me.  I personally prefer the lore name generator.

Hopefully that helps.

I had Reiner as my nice mage

And Salazar as my Tyrant mage

Reinhardt sounds good for a warrior type male.

Crow or Crowley as a rogue

Heath or Hodges for a dwarf

Zaneth or Ebraheim for an elf

Arlaf or Zantok for a Qunari

Females hmmm

Gwendolin or Berthilda as a warrior

Allura or Serin as a mage

Farrah or Levina as a rogue

Maida or Nellwyn as a dwarf

Shiara or Falena as a elf

Vasara or Tolis or Dilama as a qunari female

Wow, that's certainly a lot of thought. Thanks for all the ideas! Themed names are cool. Actually, Meredith isn't bad in that regard, considering. My good friend Danisaur used the name of a bird too, but for her elf, Wren. I like that name.

You're quite welcome.  I think I've just played too much D&D over the years.

Meredith was a great if funny name.  Wren is a great name too.  :)

Here's my tips for character names. (...)

I just use default name or the random name button. Failing that I pick one of the default names from Pokemon Red.

Rarely I get more creative.

This was an idea I had before I fell asleep last night.  How about a way to export and save faces?  Say, you really like the elf you just made, but you want to change their class.  What if, down at the bottom on the left hand side on the character creator, they added an export function?  I was thinking they could make it's own file path just for preset faces. That way you can save your character's face, then when you go to preset faces, your character's face is added the selection.  I was thinking about some sort of "face code" system* and maybe an import/export feature would work better.

Edit: Add a delete feature as well for custom faces, but leave the ones that came with the game unable to be deleted.  That way, you don't have a ton of custom faces in your folder and you can keep it down to a few that you like.

*For the non-ME players, the face codes would allow you to plug in a series of sliders with numbers and letters at character creation.  I owe all of my Shepards aside from my first one a lot of thanks for the site faces of gaming.com, since they have slider numbers for some mighty-fine looking Shepards.*

That's what I was thinking too. That way, you could also add a face partly through the game by going to the Emporium. Ideally the limit of faces would be high. I'd quite like to try a different class with the same character, actually. Not to mention start on Nightmare to get that achievement. Honestly, I'm kind of surprised there is no way to save and share faces. I hope they didn't think that since we had a new protagonist we wouldn't need it. People like to share them too! I wish it was in every game too, that way I could actually recreate Hawke... you know, except their hair :P

I doubt they would give us a lot of options, since that might clutter the CC.  That being said, I think about 4-5 extra preset slots would still allow players like you and I to just pick a face and get through the prologue.  I can also agree with your idea about them going through the Black Emporium as opposed during character creation.  That way, someone can pick a default face to get into Haven with, then can dash off to TBE to pick and/or design a custom face.

I would want to keep it to a small amount so it doesn't make loading times from creation to the beginning go through the roof.  I may or may not have learned this by using too many mods in some of my games.

From what I've been able to tell, people love sharing their creations.  I'd say one of the biggest sets of mods on nexus, aside from PJs, is save files full of awesome characters.  There is some neat ones out there, but unfortunately they all come with Keep states.  It would be rather...freeing to be able to go to a site and be able to grab just a face.  For my console friends (hugs,) at least give them the chance to make and save their own creations.

By the way,  I'm not kidding about the PJs.  If you check the clothing and the model/textures section on nexus for mods, the amount of jammies is huge.  That isn't including LL's Inquisitor Uniform and Armor crafting mods (it allows you to color more of your armor than the standard tinting table does.)

That's another request of mine: Please give us the chance to customize more of our colors for our armor.  Also, please give us a truly black leather.   I think it could be made hard to get, although not Fade-Touched level of difficult.  That would be appreciated.

I sometimes put way too much thought into my character names.  Rowan is a reddish tree that, according to old Celtic myth, wards off evil spirits.  Folks used to put either sprigs or branches of that on their windows or doors as a form of protective magic.  Rowan the elf is a mage.  So, good magic fighting evil magic.  Plus, the red hair.   ;)

Now if you'll excuse me, I have coffee to go make.

Not only do I put way to much thought into it, I'm picky about weird things. I don't like any of my PCs to have names that are too similar to one another. I try to make them all start differently and end differently.

Unless I consider them Alternate Universe versions, and deliberately give them each a variation of the same name. I.e. Juliette Hawke (rogue) or Juliana Hawke (mage).

  You too?  I looked over my older save files from Origins and I noticed that with my human ladies.  Tera, Rya, Myra, Jada, Mara, ect.  The other races weren't too bad, but I had a bit of a naming rut with my poor (future) Queens.

I've been trying to be a bit more creative this time around, and so far not too shabby.  I haven't been able to break the habit I still have with the names ending with the letter "A" with my human ladies.  Terra and Valena are a testimony to that.

Yeah, 4-5 options would be pretty sweet. I wouldn't mind if they even rewrote the current default faces. I don't need them. Huh, I didn't know people could actually share characters themselves, that's pretty cool. But like you said, worldstates would be a big problem. Come to think of it, that's the other thing I'd like to possibly do with the same character: A different worldstate. That would be very helpful. Haha, thanks

I'd like to be able to change more colours on outfits too, as well as simply have dye colour wheel instead of materials. It's cool, but not practical (dye would actually be more realistic). Even armour colouring in ME was simple but the highlight colours were awesome, especially if you have black primary and any colour for highlight. It has the shiny metal quality similar to obsidian in DA:I. +1 for black too, there is a lack of black. They added materials in Hakkon with new colours, so here's hoping! Bioware, just let us colour everything in any colour! :wizard: :P

The tinting table that's like the armor one would work, because of what's already been said.  Hear me out.  Remember that seamstress that Vivienne brings up?  Well, make her actually exist in the game.  There is some buildings in Val Royeaux that are empty and the devs might be able to work with that.  Instead of just having another tinting table at Skyhold or having one in TBE, give us a shop and a seamstress NPC where we can go recolor of clothes.  If the devs don't feel like opening another store (because that can be some serious coding,) another merchant in the Market Square would be okay.  A small tent, an NPC and a table.  That way we can not only we recolor our clothes, but keep it lore friendly and make good on Vivienne's promise.   :wizard:

(Just for the fun of it)

Wardens:

Rosemonde Cousland - "Rose" is a head canon allusion to her relationship with Alistair. I like to think it lends added significance to the gift giving scene.

Danaelle Amell - Basically "Judged only by God" and there's some resonance to that for me, because she's my Ultimate sacrifice Warden.

Aeriel Tabris

Elyriel Mahariel

Nephtari Aiducan

Sherazade Brosca

I broke my rules with the two Elves, but it didn't bother me because they are both Elves, so it was more something to deliberately link them together.

Inquisitors:

Angelique Trevelyan

Celestine Trevelyan

Ninaeve Lavellan

Deiniri Cadash

Istreiae Adaar

That doesn't even get into the males, or all of the females for that matter. Those are just the ones that I play as though it's me inhabiting them, as opposed to playing a character who's entirely separate from my morals or impulses. I think the reason I don't have a tendency to go with names that end in "A" in DA at all is because we've always had DA companions whose names end that way, and I also try to make my PCs names very distinguished from the other characters.

I could never stick with Elissa Cousland, for example, because Elissa and Leliana next to each other would actually bug me, because they don't contrast each other enough for my taste. Syllables are even a factor. I think I actually might have a compulsion about this?

If I don't like the way my character looks, I'm not going to enjoy playing her/him.

Why would you go through with creating a character whose appearance you didn't like? Setting yourself up for disappointment will only end in one way.

That's definitely a great idea! But wouldn't it make the tinter sort of pointless? I was mostly suggesting it for next game, though, sorry if it seemed like I wanted them to patch it.

  We all have our quirks.  I don't have an Elissa Cousland either.  I usually don't go for the default names, most of the time.  I do have a Marian Hawke, but I played her as an almost completely aggressive pro-Templar Hawke that even I found largely unpleasant.  Guess whose getting left in the Fade this time?

I don't think they meant they played those characters, they were highlighting the fact that few hair options = few characters.

That's not where I'm coming from, at least.  I've been there too, before TBE.

The lighting in the starting character creator is terrible and can throw a lot of colors off.  What looks good in the CC can sometimes look awful in the actual game.  I remember a lot of complaints about "clown makeup" because the CC didn't show the shades and intensity correctly.  TBE has more comfortable lighting and would be a great place for people to create some custom faces to save for later.   That way you know it looks good in the actual game outside of the CC.   ;)

I mean, dark green lighting out all things.  Some lore touches aren't worth it.

To be fair, you didn't quote that part of the quote in your comment, so I didn't know. I'll rephrase for the new information.

It's quite possible that you aren't sure if you'll like the appearance, and it turns out you don't after trying. Alternatively, Natashina explained how some things in the CC look much different than ingame.

You have no idea. Seriously, I have a slight problem.

It's a similar issue with hairstyles, bringing me back to topic.

I only like two hairstyles for female characters, and only one hairstyle for males, and I have nine carefully named characters to spread them between. I would very much like more.

I've long voted for the default FemShep hair for DA.  I think it should be pretty lore-friendly, not to mention that I think it looks really nice.

Examples used on my custom Sheps with the FemShep hair.  Also, if you notice the hair colors, having an in-game option for hair highlights can make some colors really stand out:

I think that would look stellar, especially on elves.   :D  A good Easter Egg from ME3, since Patrick Weekes is the head writer now and all.
