I've long voted for the default FemShep hair for DA.  I think it should be pretty lore-friendly, not to mention that I think it looks really nice.

Examples used on my custom Sheps with the FemShep hair:

Spoiler

Spoiler

I think that would look stellar, especially on elves.   :D

I like that hair too, but it isn't it pretty similar to the side-swept wavy one that's in DA:I? Aside from being messier. When I was bored I tried to recreate default Shep in DA:I with that style, but it fell flat pretty quick because of the lack of copper red hair among other things. Oh, the one from the cover I mean, not the questionable ingame render of her :P

It's more of a part in the hair rest the rest tucked behind the ear rather than completely side-swept, and it's long enough to help frame the face.  I think it looks more flattering, and there isn't enough styles that are close to shoulder length.  There's only the tiniest bit of armor clipping in the neck area, but like I've mentioned I get things like that all the time in DA:I.  I also like having bangs sometimes and it beats the naked foreheads/widow's peaks we've been getting.

I was a bit shocked when I saw what she looked like in ME3 in-game.  I looked at my ME3 pic, then back at her.  Look at the pic, then back at her.  That was...different than what I had expected.   :P

You have no idea. Seriously, I have a slight problem.

It's a similar issue with hairstyles, bringing me back to topic.

I only like two hairstyles for female characters, and only one hairstyle for males, and I have nine carefully named characters to spread them between. I would very much like more.

More hairstyles and names? Or a number of hairstyles to match the number of names?

But BW does need to improve its aesthetic as it's still running with DA:O designs but just improved textures which shows no creativity whatsoever.

The fact that players have to mod in their own custom hairstyles again shows the laziness of the BW devs.

Sure they can say they ran out of resources but the CC choices would have been one of the first things confirmed and the fact there is no new design apart from put on make up or have scars is just terrible.

But it's not a problem to know what you like and to have the self governing standard to not lower to anything less ;)

They just gotta improve their designs past their 2009 models lol.

Yeah, that all makes sense and I'm all for more styles, including similar ones. It's not like they didn't do that in DA:I anyway *looks at ponytail/bun styles that are almost identical, then looks at the 13 buzzcuts* Looking at it again, I agree that having the hair behind the ears and having bangs over the forehead change the look of the face a lot. Yeah, that... what happened there? That was the biggest disconnect between concept art and implementation I've ever seen. Of course, it would have helped if they had a face model since ME1 like male Shep... I really wish I could use default Hawke's hair too :(

Okay, I know this thread has been full of criticism for the character options.  However, I would love to a moment to say thank you for the beautiful options we have gotten.  This is all unmodded:

Spoiler

For all of my criticisms, I think what they've done is amazing.  Yes, the causal clothes are pretty bad.  The hair options are painfully limited for all races/genders, and that is true.  I hope that changes for this game, but I appreciate what the devs have done with this engine's character creator.  If nothing else, I know they've been reading feedback like this and I hope they do better next time.

So thank you, devs and animators.  I know you worked your butts off to add these options into a FPS focused engine in the first place.  :)

Agreed!

I posted this in the 'post your Inquisitor' thread the other day, but I think it demonstrates what I was talking about earlier in regards to making characters you might not have thought to make before:

The CC is great and very versatile in every aspect that can be handled by the players hands  :)

that's why the limitation in beards, hair, eyebrows and hair/eyebrows colour is so evident,  :(

I wish that threads like this came with the words "This is another Hair thread" before anything else...

Anyway, I'm pretty sure Bioware is aware at this point that you want more hairstyles.

I generally agree, but I still think that since they put so much effort into most of the CC, they should have put a little more in all the sections that are related to hair. I mean, those are the only problems. Head-hair, eyebrows, facial hair, hair colour. It's just an odd disconnect that makes the lack of good hair more evident, and with all the effort you can see they put into companions and that comment about making hair relatively quickly, it just irks me a lot.

Buuuuut I really appreciate the cool things you can do that allowed me to make a very realistic looking character with some really cool details, like inner iris colour and scars! It's awesome! :)

They had better be. Anyway, did you actually have something to contribute? I personally find it easy to ignore threads, but if you have some sort of compulsion that inhibits you to do that, well, I'm sorry. Anyway, we'll keep posting our thoughts and feedback, because that's what this forum is for, until Bioware improves the situation. Or at least until they talk to us about it. Wow, that was snarky. Hmm...

Which is why the Witcher series is so popular... Oh, the unlimited customizability options available to the character...

Indeed. I count 28 hair options in DAI.

I like TW3, but Geralt has 6 hairstyles and the clipping on some of those are truly awful.

Floating locks is one thing, but I don't want them floating randomly through my armor  :P

Oh, and for those waiting for a 'response' from BioWare,

the game itself is their response, you are due no other.

Do I believe that anyone at BW "owes" us an answer?  No, I don't think they "owe" me anything except patches for bugs and glitches.

Do I think that they could acknowledge the fans outside of social media (or in the case of one member of the ME team, IGN) and perhaps not force people to sort through fluff tweets or to try to keep up with a thread that's over 3000 pages, contains the same fluff tweets, maintained by the fans, and moves very quickly every day?  Yes.

That's my problem with twitter.  In order just to get to any information regarding the game, I have to sort through a lot of tweets like "The <most popular game that isn't a BW title> I'm playing is awesome!"  "I just shared a funny joke with <insert dev, writer or VA name here>"  "Plushies on sale!"  "Winner of over 100 GotY awards!"  "Wow, DA:I is so pretty!"   <_<

As a customer, I expect the official forums of the product I just purchased to be at least one viable place for information.  You know, stickied threads on patches about the current changes, and not ones that get left out like old bread; developer news; the occasional answer.  Maybe, I don't know, the sort of behavior that they can do for the MP crowd?  I know the MP crowd is smaller, but surely they could at least talk to us outside of twitter.  Like it was when I first joined about 18 months ago.

I stress, is it that hard or unreasonable for the devs to use the actual forums, not Twitter or Facebook, to say the following:

"We're working on something."
"No, stop asking."

"Not for the foreseeable future."

I can understand why the devs don't come and hang out.  A quick glance at a lot of threads in the first three pages of just the Feedback section alone shows why (posts telling them "quit your jobs; you don't care; run a kickstarter; my companion raped my character," ect.)  I'm not asking for that.  I'm asking for the same responses on the forums as they give on Twitter.  I should not have to ask the Twitter thread to see what one of the devs said to one of the most asked questions on the forums.

The reason that why they can't use the forums instead of twitter for a quick answer is because....?

Edited out a paragraph because that sounded too bitter and snarky even for me.  If you quoted me prior to my edit, please take those lines out.  It was uncalled for on my part.

I agree with Natashina.

My intent with this thread - and I'm certain others have felt similarly with their own threads and posts - is not to somehow imply that we are owed answers from Bioware at every question we fling at them. Obviously, they are busy with work and their own personal lives. I think this is understood.

It merely is a bit unsatisfying to see responses coming in with more regularity on other areas of the forum, or other venues entirely. Certainly, we are not owed, but it seems like a gesture that would instill some more good will between the fan base and the devs.

I do not think this particular thread has been filled with anyone demanding answers. We've been voicing our criticisms of what is currently the status quo. We've described what we found to be less than stellar, and why we found it so. This does not strike me as particularly demanding.

I doubt the silence here is anything other than reluctance, and it seems many understand why. But if you're not getting answers here, you could always designate a particular person with a twitter account to ask specific questions. I think they're just picky as to where and when they comment. I've noticed they seldom stay for long.

I've enjoyed lurking on this thread, though. It's been very civil.

I would have if I had a higher character limit. As Natashina said, social media is the worst possible way to communicate feedback with the devs. Especially twitter, which is their preferred medium. I'm glad he eventually conceded our point, but I think it would have worked faster and been more convincing if we talked on this forum.

All that. I've basically said exactly the bolded part in different words before because I firmly believe that's not asking for too much. It's asking for as little as you can get without getting nothing.

I agree with Natashina.

All that too. This thread isn't supposed to be about rabid complaining, it's about constructive feedback. And the fact that the higher-ups at Bioware didn't seem to realize the problem with sideburns/baldness on hair before I, 6 months later, told them proves that we still need threads like this, and that they sorely need our feedback on some issues. Let's keep going, any improvement we can facilitate will glorify us on our holy quest for purity of hair be worth it.

Now, I can say what I'd prefer, if the devs are still lurking here and care to read it.  This is what I would consider reasonable.  It's not what I actually really want, but I am trying to balance what I would like with what I'm likely to get.

Create a stickied thread on the forums.  Either in the Feedback section, or in News/Announcements.  Give it one of those spiffy announcements at the top of any DA forum section that directs folks to the correct thread.  Those are hard to miss.   Make it so other posters cannot reply.

Then take all the more commonly asked questions from Twitter with their responses and put it up.  That's it.  They don't need to update daily, or even weekly for my satisfaction.  Even having an update once every one to two months would be enough to help quiet down these redundant questions and requests.  I know the devs are sick of it.  Several other posters are sick of the silence.  I can't see how they could lose here.

They don't need to interact with us directly.  They don't need to have any answer other than the one they give on social media.  Just a nice easy reference.  That way folks that don't like/don't use social media have an easier way to find out what's going on with smaller matters like this.  It would be a lot less cluttered than the Twitter thread, and it's something that only the BioWare team can post in.  The fans will feel like the forums matter in some way, and they can't take out their anger on these poor devs and writers directly.

I'm all for that. While I'd like interaction here, it's not owed and this would be a huge improvement. (Though, I think they owe it to themselves to get feedback, and as my tweet showed, discussing that feedback will help a lot, since they originally dismissed the complaint before talking about it more.) Get a community manager, and have them sort all the tweets onto the sticky thread. That way the devs don't need to do anything here and the CM, well, should. Teamwork. We have a twitter thread, but it's terrible for a news source, so this would help a lot. I definitely think that would help with the redundant questions like you said.

I think a big issue is that so many people don't understand how to give feedback. There is no middle ground between "bash the game" an "berate the devs". Because of that, threads like this are likely overlooked. People can tolerate only so much negativity. A shame, really.

Well, this thread is a perfect example of middle-ground, and there are plenty of others. They might get overlooked, but the devs should be able to filter out the bad. Or, other people who navigate the forums and deliver feedback to the devs can do that. I've heard that those people exist, but... I doubt it. Or they're not doing very well.

I know they exist. I got lots of nice feedback from my feedback thread, and this group has been really good. As well as that, I've read some that gave me more to say on my feedback. Just today I added the "grey PJ" feedback, which never bothered me but clearly bothers others. But the amount of "you're just crap" or " be more like_____" is a little disheartening as a fan, so I can only guess what it's like for them. I believe in criticising constructively, say what is bad as long as you appreciate the good.

There is a lot of constructive tweets that get tossed out that do get answered.  This is why I think the devs should do such a thread.  They can parse out all of the nasty flaming "feedback," and focus on the questions that they felt like answering on Twitter.  They've got a pretty good gauge of good feedback and suggestions (even from some of the more angry/frustated fans,) over the...less than civil and productive ones.

I'm with you when it comes to feedback.  A lot of folks have seen my posts were I state what I loved about the game, what I didn't like and what I think they can improve on.  I try to keep it constructive, civil and offer ideas when/where I can.  I try to keep it balanced, and I rarely let my frustrations get the best of me.  Or I edit as quickly as I can.  ;)
