What's your opinion of the Empire and how did you leave it by the end of Inquisition?

Personally, I loved the culture and climate of Orlais, and while it has many faults I am fully convinced that it will change for the better under his Imperial Majesty Emperor Gaspard de Chalons. It reminds me a great deal of the Empire of Nilfgaard in the Witcher universe and the Holy Roman Empire in certain regards.

I hated Orlais and want it to burn, sad that I preferred Tevinter over Orlais

A mixture of both. Orlesian culture often seems like sheer snobbery. But while I don't really like the nobles, a lot of the middle and lower class Orlesians were quite charming. The nerds of the various Universities in particular. :D

The Orlesian Empire itself is an empire that's going through a more mundane version of what happened to Tevinter. It's an empire that's enslaved Fereldans, destroyed the only elven state, split Nevarra with Tevinter after saving the world from a Blight, conquered the Anderfels and half the Free Marches, sent armies on Exalted March after Exalted March, and oppresses its elves and humans enough that a revolution doesn't seem like a far-fetched bet.

While I find Tevinter more fascinating, Roman afficionado that I am, Orlais is an interesting empire. I just have a personal dislike for most French accents that makes it harder to swallow. :)

For what i care Sera can be empress. I save Celene only because I can. If I not save her it's same as I murdered her.

The orlesian nobility are a bunch of retards. I want to see them burn along the qun and tevinter. For what it's worth, i left it in the care of briala and gaspard. It's a shame  we absolutely must help orlais.

It's just an empire, like any other. No reason to care to strongly about it.

Both.  Personally, I didn't like "the Game".  The masks were off-putting, the ball was pretentious, and the way Empress Celene spoke made me want to punch her.  Feeling that kind of revulsion was rather fun in a game setting, though.  Sometimes it's good to exercise dark feelings. :)

So, I let Celene die and left puppet Gaspard with Briala's fist up his backside.

On a side note, my other half loved Orlais, saved the Empress, played the game so incredibly well that he left the ball with all kinds of court approval.  It was kind of impressive even though his opinion of Orlais was the polar opposite.

I don't care about it either way.  But, if I were Fereldan or a Free Marcher, I might like that Orlais functions as a bulwark against Tevinter.

Well if The Masked Empire can be believed, the Québécoisian Empire doesn't have alienages, so that's good in my book. True, elves are still third-class citizens (below peasants), but that's still one up on Fereldan.

The Game is bad (as in evil), no question about that, and I could do without the masks, but chevaliers are awesome warriors, the best wine comes from the left side of Thedas, and Val Montreal is very pretty, so on the whole, thumbs up.

I'm pretty sure all the Orlesian stuff in the game comes out of the Montreal studio ... ;)

To my mind Orlais and Tevinter are just two sides to the same coin; one set of nobles use bards to achieve their aims, the other magic.   Both have a Chantry that is immersed in the politics of the state and ignores the oppression of the lower classes, which is ironic considering both claim to follow the faith of Andraste/the Maker, who condemns the abuse of power.    Mind you I'm finding it difficult to understand quite why Tevinter adopted the Andrastian faith on the basis of the history of Andraste that has now been revealed.  So Hessarian suddenly decided to convert; why didn't they just assassinate him?

Anyway, back to Orlais.  In the past life sucked if you weren't a noble. It was even worse if you were an elf.   I generally play an elf, so obviously I'm not a big fan.   Didn't like the picture painted of the Orlesians, particularly the Chevaliers, in DAO and seeing them in the flesh (and reading about them in Masked Empire) hasn't exactly improved my first impressions.   However, my preferred option is to put Briala in charge with Gaspard as her puppet, so I'm liking the set up a lot more now.   Wonderful irony that the elves are now running the show with the Empire that destroyed the Dales and thanks to the nobility being in awe of the elven Inquisitor and the Inquisition, they can't do anything about it.   Shame it probably won't last.

Unless if things changed dramatically it was mainly due to their military defeat and the immense popularity of the cult of the Maker.

Tevinter basically could have converted or perhaps suffered another civil war on the issue.

Just because you off the head of a Faith doesn't mean it disappears, especially not when it's so wide spread and popular among the imperium itself.

There is not one nation that's not both good and bad. There are those that lean closer to a side but never a nation that is inherently good or evil. That an illusion the USA made.
