Assuming it's feasible from a design standpoint, do you think it's possible we'll ever get a polyamorous romance in DA? Given certain revelations in Wot2, namely

That's subjective. If all the parties involved are ok with then it's their bussiness. I personally, wouldn't want to. Mainly, because I don't see it as being that far from cheating, which I have 0 tolerance for. So, IF Bioware will ever make it possible, which I highly doubt, I hope is not forced upon our player character.
Edit: I just remembered, that you could have a threesome or foursome, with isabela, zevran and leliana ![]()

No.
EDIT: I don't have a problem with the idea but I wouldn't want to try that kind of romance.

I think they won't touch polyamorous romances due to the scripting involved to track all of the romances, the romance character's interactions with the pc and the other characters. Might be a little complicated, not impossible just might yank resources away from other areas they'd prefer them being spent. This is basing on how DA romances are tracked, scripted and in dialogue currently and last 2 games. Would be interesting to see in a game but I'm not sure they'd bother with it honestly.

Not into sharing. But I would like to have a harem.

The cheap hack solution for that is to just have two characters (or more if you want to be really progressive) who can only be romanced together, so game logic wise it's basically the same as a normal romance. Still might require pulling an Epler to get the animations to work though I guess.

I'd love to see a poly relationship or two in the series. Even if we just saw one between NPCs (in game, not just in the extended lore) that would be a good start. I appreciate that it's complicated to script a poly relationship that can be participated in by the PC.

BioWare hasn't even written a proper romance yet, and you want to throw in more variables, gomez? Besides, they've been down this route before.

I think if they did do it, the relationships could basically play out the way they usually would one-on-one, with dialogue options acknowledging that the other relationship(s) exist (like the jealousy convos in previous games... only, you know, the exact opposite). And maybe if you're part of a polyamorous triad or something, you could have Fenabela or Adoribull style banter in the background, acknowledging your companions' relationships with each other as well as the PC.
Just a thought.

As I understand it, I think Gaider might have commented on this and said such a thing would be very hard to create from a technical and writing standpoint, keeping track of and creating scenarios for all the variable and whatnot.
If it could be done? Sure, I might not do it, but if it worked and didn't gobble up all the resources from the other romances? Go ahead.

I think there's already been some variations of polyamory in previous DA/ME games, though I don't really expect we'll ever get a full-fledged relationship of that sort. Which is honestly fine by me, as I prefer monogamous relationships.

David Gaider approves +1.
Or rather, in past discussions where he's weighed in on the subject, that's what he's put out. The real issue is that character paths (and the writing requirements needed to support them) grow exponentially. For each additional person you put into a polyamory, you're adding additional costs for that person to interact with every other person in the relationship- assuming you're actually going for that, rather than a superficial threesome or harem scenario in which the characters don't acknowledge eachother.
That quickly becomes quite a bit of cost for what is, at heart, optional minority content. If the goal of a polyamory relationship was the polyamory itself, Gaider said he'd really consider it on the context of an otherwise established NPC relationship- that way there would be diminished costs because the NPCs would already be involved with eachother. The difference would be the player opting in, rather than the character dynamic at play.

Sure, why not. *If* done well it could be a breath of fresh air. But I don't think it will be done. Too complicated, etc.

I think a full-fledged polyamorous relationship and not just a cheating option would be a lot of fun (they've given us some fairly specialized-appeal relationships before, after all.) I'd actually prefer it if they did write it as a romance with an existing couple, that way it would be obvious to anyone trying to romance one of them what they were getting into (well, you'd still have a few people who insisted even being told that's the situation wasn't obvious enough to them and they "wasted" their time, but
)

In that case... I'd be good with a couple of polyamorous NPCs. Like, Wade and Herren +1.

I don't think I would partake. Though I played DAO and DA2, DAI was the first time I've even opted for a romance. But that's me and I hope that everyone else can dip their toe into their harmless personal fantasies when playing fantasy games, so would support a move to make this available. I can certainly understand the appeal - usually get my polyamory fix in literary form.

Way back when Gaider still had his blog, he commented on the possibility of polyamorous relationships. If memory serves, he said the only way he could see it work would be if the protagonist joined an already existing couple and that would be romantic subplot, rather than say experiencing X's subplot and Y's subplot then getting them to agree to a polyamorous relationship.

Aveline and Donnic, yes! Though I'm pretty sure Aveline's a bit too straight laced for that. Herren and Wade, though, hmm.
You knew I'd jump in, didn't you?

Exactly. Besides, like I said above, it avoids the issue of (most) people complaining they didn't know what they were getting into. ![]()
