Greetings, just played my first MP, long time Bioware (da and ME fan), it went very well. I just stuck with the group and did what I could for damage, used my abilities, was only a  leval one but still managed to come in 3rd for damage. I am sure there is a big learning curve but if you have played SP it helps a lot, IMHO.

Have fun

Bullsh1t.

Game would be better if people like you - like one of the first ten in the PC ranking - would play more Pug to help new players.

Pretty sure SpaceV3gan can't play pugs anyway, due to location and DAMP's indirect region-lock.

I pug all the time, and the bad connection to some hosts is more than enough to make me understand the friends only mindset.

I can help any player I get the change to come across, new or not. I have mentioned my Origin ID here a few times for anyone willing to play with me to send me a friend request.

Pugs are a no-no for reasons other people have mentioned, but also from my personal experience. Getting kicked because I play a Level 1 on Threatening, or having to tolerate 'I will not enter the Banner area' attitude, is just not for me. If I could play 20 hours a day that wouldn't be an issue, but my time is pretty limited, so I like efficiency.

Look for new friends while playing pugs.

Play as all characters you learn the mechanics better that way, apart from the alchemist.....unless you like watching. That may just be a me problem though.

Don't be too wary of perilous, it's nasty but doable. It's the only way to find out if you're improving or not. Wait until you get decent gear first though.

If everybody (wisely) decides to leave treasure rooms until the area is clear of enemies, go unlock the door and stand by the font. If a revenant/horror starts bodying them you can heal them quick. Once it's done, straight to the next area. Saves time.

Just to reiterate, archers. They are top priority, as long as it's reasonably practical, kill them like as though they threatened your family. Oh and make sure once you start hitting them, don't stop until they die. Their full draw can easily ruin an otherwise smooth run.

Oh and unless you have a solid connection, don't host. Game is horrendous enough with connectivity issues without "Mai furst interweb value broadband" adding to it.

Unless SpaceV3gan has changed drasctically from the guy I knew, you can just add him and he will play with you.

And most of people I know from the top 10 do occasionally pug.

Push to talk on console is called "pull your mic out" :P

I actually do this quite often. I plug it in real quick to say something, then yank it right back out.

I wish more people would.

That's the whole wrong thing.

"You gotta add him to play with him cause you paesants will never find him in public matches".

Fortunately, there are lots of top players that play in Pug - I mean, with like one friend only and the other 2 random. Just want to use this occasion to thanks "Rhaegos the Green" - third in PC ranking - that guy is crazy, but found him quite often in Pug and always played without any problem with everyone. I got him also in friendlist, and even if I was always almost dead in the past, he always kept on playing with me and others in my same situation.

That's the whole point for me.

If you can solo everything, you SHOULD help low levels players or at least gives them the chance to play with you.

This game will never be "competitve", so, I dont see any reason to keep that "elitist" mentality.

It's not about being elitist. It's about gaining more XP most efficiently.

And pugs are not suited for that, it's that simple.

And once again, why? Because YOU have more fun that way? What's in it for top players?

Should they do it because it's morally right? Because they feel better if they do good things?

Because you will praise any player who does as you say like "Rhaegos the Green" ?

So that's the reward for the top player? Your praise?

And how is that making up for the loss of XP that a top player suffers when playing with a noob ?

I'm amazed for the ammount of bullsh1ts you said man, really, it's impressive.

You take so seriously a game that is pathetic.

This game is not competitive, once you are in top 50, you can basically solo everything, so why should you care about the ammount of XP that you will get? You know, having 200+ on each stats doesnt bring you puss1 or gives you a job.

I live in South America. Unless you (or anyone else here) play from South America or South East USA, chances of us ending up in the same Public Lobby are 0%.
Also, the people who share Private lobbies with me range from Top 10 to Prestige >200. There is no elitism here.

Moreover, my region is pretty dead playerbase-wise. I need to resort to private lobbies, especially because I tend to play at odd hours (from late nights to early mornings). Also, as I had said before, my gaming time is limited, something like 5 hours tops during weekdays. I assume most players want to make the most of their in-game hours (surely I do), thus I strongly recommend Private lobbies for efficiency. If I could play 20 hours a day then I wouldn't mind giving up a little efficiency, but unfortunately that is not the case for me nor for most people.

So why would a top player care about helping you?

Having 200+ on each stat does not bring him puss1 or give him a job as you say.

But helping out noobs does?

So if a top player helps you out you'll get him puss1 or a job?

That's the reward a top player gets from you?

You still haven't explained what the motivation is for the top players to help new players.

You seem to expect them to do it out of the goodness of their heart no matter if they have fun doing it or not.

It's about that YOU have fun if top players help you.

It's does not matter if top players have fun the same way.

Some treasure room chests are still awarding materials, I believe.

But the main way of getting them is by salvaging equipment. Any weapons (except Inquisition weapons, which cannot be salvaged), runes, armor upgrades, etc that you don't plan on using or are weaker than your best weapons, choose the option to salvage them and you get materials.

Legitimate innocent question from a new player looking for info? check

Rapid escalation into argument over unimportant play choice difference that has nothing to do with giving new players information? check

Use of terms "noob" and "elitism?" check

Just making sure i'm still on BSN.

The level of elitism here is hilarious, I guess some people don't realize it's a co-op game

Honestly playing with a group of friends is some of the best advice for a new player for a lot of reasons that aren't elitism or some other imagined issue.

Surely region lock is the worse idea the dev had for this game, i can't complain because USA East is filled with people to play with but, i can't play with everyone.

If i want to play with people from West, Europe, canada,  and Central-south America i have to add them as friends.

Depending on how lucky you are with your first few large chests, consider playing Keeper initially, since she does not require gear to be effective at keeping the team Barrier'ed.

You should also check the free chest section, as you should have the victory chest from last week, as well as the Dragonslayer chest for a new character freebie.

This is a good tip, start out as a trusty barrier. .vvirtuoso is excellent too if u got it. .

We all know this place will never change.

This place is a delight compared to the fetid unwashed armpit of misery that is the legendary GFAQs.

That said, the Inquisition boards there are fairly quiet. Mostly people complaining about the requisition and pure superfluous filler based SP. Not my opinion, I stopped with SP a long time ago.

That is not the issue at all, at least not to me. Saying new players or those who aren't as good shouldn't play with those more experienced is what I took as elitist.
