That attack is completely avoidable. I don't think that attack should be nerfed, but that's up to BW.

No matter if the guy can avoid it or not, sometimes it's just getting out of hand. The other day I got it for 4000 damage by an Archer for crying out loud! Sure, he got me from flanking and got a crit, but come on! I wasn't even attacking it, his target decided to hide himself behind me and I got hit in the crossfire... The good news is I survived, I couldn't believe it after seeing such a number. I must say the 4k Barrier helped a lot...

I find that if you use an ability on an archer (ex dragon rage), and you can't kill the said archer, then it seems to always trigger them to step back and shoot for high damage.

 

I think its best to only use dragon rage on (non-cc'ed) archers if you know are sure it will kill.

I can confidently say that Heroic has contributed far more than you ever have and does so in a polite way

Just to show how ridiculous the archer is, here's a video of me getting hit for 1800 damage from 1 archer on perilous.

 

Why is it that I can only just survive an assassins sync move but I can't survive 1 arrow from a red templar archer.

It was entirely 1000% your fault, you didn't kill him and let him walk away that a Sure kill for archer.

 

I said it before, "Don't attack an archer if you don't kill it in 3 hits, if they move away and turn back you are kissing the floor"

Everyone here knows the mechanics of this enemy attack. The question tht has never been answered from bioware is whether or not this amount of damage is intended.

Well that's what I thought but it can't be for that move.

The thing I hate is that the archer special attacks have such short animations, and hit obscenely hard.

 

I would rather the step back shot did a lot less damage, but put you to sleep or stunned you than just dealing ohko level damage, given it is a fast and defensive move.

 

I want the attacks that do such ridiculous damage to at least have sufficient tells to them to react. Full draw leaves you immobile, and hits really hard after a significant delay, but the enemy archers get a step back fire that takes less time than a normal shot, displaces them away from you, and deals such damage levels to one shot a tank? Where is that attack on our archer skill trees.

I will say it again, I hate archers.

You destroyed all the other enemies without issue, only to be taken from almost full health to nothing by one arrow. That isn't a L2p thing, or you would have struggled more with all those other enemies. You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Happens to me a lot.

I feel like archers are too OP. One arrow should not kill you when you have almost full health.

They're at their worst in laggy conditions.

Only the basic attack got nerfed, but only as near as makes no difference.

Really bad on area 4 of FC. My trusty dwarf goes from tanking god to worthless pincushion in seconds once they spawn on the battlements.

FTFY. Don't stealth while they're locked on you, duck into hard cover asap (blocking the arrows), or gain maximum angular velocity in the opposite direct of  your previous tangential direction just as their animation ends. i.e. dodge and weave.  Pick up the skill Evade if you absolutely must. Fallback plan is still useful here too restoring your health after the arrow hits.

 

OTOH, you can use this animation locking to your advantage as an assassin. Once they start, they're committed to the animation, thus you can sneak up behind them and auto-attack/ twin fangs / deathblow / etc them even without stealth if you don't have aggro (which you don't after stealthing the first time).

 

I often find multiple archers near each other attacking my allies.  If I wait for their attack animation to begin, I can safely attack them because my daggers are quicker than their bows, and they will not turn around until their animation completes.

Thing is, Archers are not even elite enemies, there are trash mob. And it is completily absurd that trash mob deals more damage then elite or even some

 boss enemies.

I would have went with drasca and said you over-extended your self at the wrong time but this has happen to me on my other characters like my archer and all he does is stand still 80 yards away from the fight mostly trying to LOS

My point isn't that I shouldn't have been hit by that attack, I play games to chill out and have fun. Not to play perfectly all the time. The point of this video is to show the raw damage of 1 shot of an attack from a non elite mob. As I have already stated, that attack does more damage to me than an assassin does at close range.
