The almighty archer 1 bang 1800 damage

Just now i started to play with my Templar who i had neglected for weeks, and decided to put attention to the archers.

 

When they attack me normally they do 1-6 point of damage, but when they run and turn back they do 280-320 Damage, to the front!

 

I am like.... WTF! Whats the formula of attack? %? Maybe it does  damage based on Player's HP.

 

Lets call it, "The Achilles' Heel Attack"

My point isn't that I shouldn't have been hit by that attack, I play games to chill out and have fun.

 

There's a difficulty setting for that: Routine

 

All I hear is QQ, I went into perilous and actually got attacked hard. Call the waaaaaambulence.

Looks like you were playing routine, where enemies basic attacks are is normally soaked up by armor. Maybe threatening (been a while since I played threatening). Gotta watch out for that sneaky attack even in threatening.

Personally, I don't think there is a huge problem with that amount of damage per se. It is perilous, not getting hit is priority one.

 

I do think, however, that 1800 is a bit ridiculous for an Archer to deal as a counter attack. Bizarrely, they're more threatening at melee than they are at range, and that is stupid and unintuitive. They're such a common enemy type that its silly to have to use a CC against them; getting into their melee range as a melee character without being pincushioned should be reward enough.

I think many understand that, but there is a time when you see a lone archer and you think "I will take this guy down!" and your face when you see you didn't kill him, and the guy runs and turn back, all that comes to mind in that instant is..

That's why I didn't bother dodging, it was an isolated common enemy and I was at full HP, was not expecting the 360 noscope.

They should beg for mercy when facing melee, not fire a supercharged shotgun.

Precisely. My trusty dwarf should not be soiling his armour just because he missed that last swing when the archer ninja'd.

Especially when he's just been shrugging off brute hits.

I've noticed recently that i haven't been hit by this attack. Not sure what changed. I see them do their twinkle toes but either they are not getting enough distance from me and i kill them or they are just not following through and doing the counterattack. I figured something got tweaked.

Even still i feel like there is a tenfold error somewhere in the code. It may be intended. I think its a little odd that no dev has ever confirmed if this is normal.

They have a full draw move where they sit there and aim at you for 5 minutes and it doesn't seem to do even a quarter of the damage of their evade move.

This is what i have been thinking, maybe that "run and turn" shot damage belongs to Full draw, because the skill does not do the damage intended.

I like it and have no problem with it. I see these moves as counters. Lowly archer can counter a melee and punish the player for not killing it in time. The lowly foot soldier also has a ranged counter via the sword block.

Doesn't being a ranged unit not counter melee already. The archer's will murder melee characters with their sheer numbers and constant damage that melee can't so easily counter, why should dealing with archers up close be instant death when that is the only way to get rid of them.

 

Mages can backstep and avoid melee enemies until they are killed, melee characters can only deal with ranged units by getting up close and personal. Archers don't need a one shot kill.
