I really hope Luke can answer this, because I think you guys are looking into adding another difficulty  ;)

Is there anyway to ignore promotion stats on the new difficulty? So, in the new difficulty, the game would treat your promotions as 0 regardless of what the actual numbers are. That way all players start on the same ground stat-wise, regardless of how long they've played the game.

If this isn't possible, is there a way to nerf the effects of promotions at all? Ideally diminishing returns but not looking for anything complicated, just a linear reduction formula works too.

Thanks!

Ok so we have new difficulty which ignores promotions.
So what's the reward for doing it?

I would guess the right to call oneself skilled rather than having too much time on one`s hands :)

They only have to look in their backyard, at SWTOR and make mechanics more complicated, as opposed to adding multipliers to HP and DMG.

This is the problem with having promotions effecting stats and weapons effecting power damage.

I'd rather have horde mode.

so do you want this to weaken yourself? or do you just want everyone else who has promoted like crazy to be weaker? or is it that you are tired of other people complaining about perilous being too easy?

I'm pretty vocal about not liking promotions on here but the entire premise of DAIMP revolves around it. to take this away now or change it up drastically is just gonna do more harm then good. so what if a few die hard fans who have put in insane amount of hours steam roll through new content. the question is does it bother you as a player? and if it does, just stop promoting its that simple.

Unlimited one. As the challenge.
Just scales mobs to the infinity, it's possible, seen many games with this. It would great addition for those with high skill and promotions.

I think you missed the entire point.

There are 2 possibilities for a new difficulty. Either you buff HP and Damage like crazy, which is pretty boring, or you put in place a new system. What she suggested is to simply remove the effects from promotions on that new difficulty only. That means promotions would still matter in other difficulties, just not the new one. And it makes sense. We all know they won't introduce something complicated this far into the game life cycle so I think it's a reasonable suggestion.

Where you see this sense?
What I would get for playing this new difficulty? XP for which I don't care cause promotions don't work here? Gold which I don't need?
Dollars vs potatoes that nobody would play this "new mode" more than few times.

New unique loot, new specific emblems, titles, banners.

Btw some people play the game for "fun" i know thats a hard concept for some people to understand.

Oh and people play plenty of games where promoting/prestiging does nothing except add a number or emblem next to your character/name and guess what, they are still popular.

Even if it's only a number it's a matter of prestige, shows how "badass" you are and other stuff. FPS games has progression system, DoTa games has progression system, mmos has progression systems, sport games has progression systems. What left?

Ppl should learn that gaming is made around challenge and reward. Balance between them. Reward made around "doing something new" last very short. If you want ppl to play game on daily basis you need to introduce reward system made around progression.

I won't be playing a "difficulty" which gives me nothing. It's a dragon fight after you have all items. Definition of being pointless.
Why?
I've done it X times. I know how it works, I don't need "reward" anymore so why should I do it?

Why nobody of you play routine on 20 level? Why you promote if playing 20 is so much "fun"?
You know why? Because getting stronger with each promotions is more fun that this "bullshit". It opens doors to maybe new solos, maybe new build which should work, new classes which should be viable for highest difficulty. Instead of being carried you start to carry. Instead of being first to die you start to be last man standing saving the day. Instead of struggling to finish a match you fight to do it faster, cleaner, better smoother.
We shouldn't as players even care about those 1% of players with stats around 100. They don't even pug, you even can't see them in games so what's the problem?
This whine about promotions is like seeing some great gameplay video on yt and hating that player has better aim and reflex.

And to add even more.
You CAN'T make pve game made around challenge. Every AI can be learned, every AI can be exploited and every even the hardest content after ppl learn it's trivial.
So saying that ppl would play for long time a pve game without progression just for fun and having "challenge" is just a plain big bullshit.

yea i see what you mean. no one wants to see ridiculous enemies in a new difficulty that only players with 100/100/100 even have a chance of beating. so in that sense its all or nothing, we either get exactly that or something "new". i guess i read this as a typical "nerf promotions because they make everything too easy" thread particularly because of the second half of her post.

Sorry about my poor wording; TheThirdRace is much more articulate  :)

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. This makes the new difficulty (whatever it is) more fair. It's still accessible to a newer player and the difficulty stays relevant no matter how many promotions you have. The only things that veteran players have over new players are familiarity with the game and end-game weapons. The difficulty stays "balanced" so to speak even as more and more people promote.

I only mentioned a nerf option for the people who think completely removing the effects of promotions is too much, like yarpen apparently  ;)

They can do a lot for a new difficulty, but I think no matter what they do (if it's possible within the programming constraints of the game), they should look at ignoring promotions or nerfing promotions for that difficulty.

This isn't a complaint against the current system, as I personally adore seeing the increment of that little number in the corner as much as anyone.

400% power increase to RTC Archers from perilous. Hundreds of them in a single game. That is all.

Well to be fair you should be after the flair, i.e. the portrait, banner and title so promotions are obsolete anyway and the only way to challenge people is to take away their OP stats.

How about a "realistic" difficulty setting? Everyone only gets 1 or 2 hits before they die, and attacks that by all means should be instantly fatal are instantly fatal. Like real life, the one to get the first blow will be the one that typically wins.

It would be a weird and fun difficulty, you gotta give it that.

Or course that the reward will be more EXP, More Gold, and Higher chance of loot. Also to test one's real skill in combat.

Honestly, this is one of the few ideas that make sense. I'd definitely love a new difficulty implementing this idea.

If that happens using Firestorm would be so much fun.
