the reason this is interesting because it confirms other advanced species before the time of the stone age when we started recording our history in the world. Has implications of things I likely haven't thought of, and also that we maybe have some catching up to do before todays culture and science is on their level but who knows. Could it be possible that in the 28,000 years of mostly unknown history that climate change and erosion would wipe all of our metropolitan sprawls and monuments out entirely? Who knows.

Scientists spent a good 7 years confirming that it is indeed that old, so I'm going to just take their word for it I think

The oldest civilization found I believe was 16,000 years old. All this means is that there is something older.

I'd like to see the evidence supporting advanced species. Please leave out the illuminati and Giorgio bits, and get to the science when you present.

There's nothing like giving a 40,000 year old bracelet to your significant other.

Spoiler Alert: It was from Jared.

Actually, I was mistaken. It was from Kay, because that's what every kiss begins with.

The Neanderthals were doing stuff like this even earlier than we were.

Wow, a bracelet older than any known civilization? Who would have guessed that building cities is harder than making beads.

Anatomically modern humans have been around for 200,000 years.  A 40,000 year old bracelet isn't that mindblowling.

You're talking biology. The bracelet points to the state of technology/crafting at the time. If the dating's accurate, that is.

Not to be 'that guy', but reading this in the 'recent post section made me giggle':

40,000 year old bracelet found in The Lobby (Off Topic).

. . .Took you guys long enough! :P

--------------

Anyways, given that mankind has been making and utilizing tools in the Lower Paleolithic era well before cities like Jericho were founded, it's not all too surprising that totems and jewelry are older than permanent settlements. After all, culture is a pretty darn old concept. I mean- the famous Cave Paintings in France are roughly the same age as this bracelet, for example, if not more so.

Something worth pointing out about this:

The big deal with this isn't that stuff was being crafted pre recorded civilization. It's that the quality of the craftsmanship that suggests a level of technology we didn't previously think anybody on Earth had 40,000 years ago.

Can you imagine?

40000 years ago, someone crafted that. Then, move foward all those years, and there are people from all over the world discussing it on the internet, on a forum about a canadian videogame company. One person has an avatar of Game of Thrones, another of Batman.

Mind-boggling when you think about it.

2000 years ago, Rome was the most powerful city in the known world.

This was 38000 years before that.

We are so small it's not even funny.
