The scienticians and their dogmas. Meh.

What exactly is a "scientician" and what's their dogmata?

>Makes posts that E.T. is IMPOSSIBLE because a singular man says so and that the universe is apparently too small.

>Says it with certainty.

>Makes comment about dogma.

That "singular man" is a physicist, he has already decennial experience, and most likely has more of that than you.

Also, he's not the only one to support the idea of a required size of the universe to host the known amount of life.

I make comments on dogmas because you people think you've got truth in your pockets, as you've studied the subject so well, and by yourself, that you can tell me "you're telling nonsense" and mock me how much you please.

That isn't scientific, it's being blinded from scientism (in addition to being disrespectful), at least.

There are many physicist out there though with many different opinions. You are stating his theories like they are fact when they are just "theories". It has yet to be proven factual.

I'm taking it to be those of us who science has granted the ability to fire dogs out of holes in our hands, just like space wizard Jesus once did.

It is "proved" as the universe expansion is an assumed information.

Sure took you a while to bring out the salt for suggesting your idol is a quack, huh?

But I would say it is less than a theory since that implies it is substantiated by anything which you have yet to bring, unless that thing you quoted in Italian was published in any respected scientific journal, say.

The only thing proved is the speed of light. Everything else can be changed. Hell, there are theories now stating the Universe may not be expanding like we thought. We are discovering something new all the time disproving old theories.

Well, you do come off as someone who has the audacity to be certain of the knowledge you're presenting, from one single source. You're taking a single Italian's man's opinion dogmatically, rather than showing the plethora of opinions of the scientific community. What makes you think that the rest of the scientific community with dissenting opinions have fewer credentials, credibility, and experience than this man you clearly laud? That's blatantly not academic.

I wasn't trying to mock you. I was pointing out the irony. If that's what you choose it to be, then that is on you.

No one is claiming to have the truth in their pocket. At least not any more so than you, by the looks of your posts.

And to whom is this "blind scientism" being disrespectful? Other than two to three questionably off beat remarks from one or two posters (including a "You're not funny, just dumb" You did post that correct?). I hardly find this discussion (well more opinion sharing, but such is part of it) to be disrespectful.

But alas if we are to squabble, as it looks it may turn that way. Then I for one will bow out as I wouldn't wish to cause a stir.

Define unicorn.

If you are talking about a horse with a horn, yeah, that's easily possible.

If you are talking about a horse with a horn, and the myriad of myths surrounding the unicorn, you'd have to stretch things, but yes, still possible.

While using genetic modification to add a horn to a horse shouldn't be too difficult,  the ability to detect virginity in females would be more tricky.

Being smart doesn't mean using intelligence properly, for good things. Some of the worst criminals in human history were/are extremely intelligent.

Spoiler

I'm not at all sure what this fellow was trying to say. That carbon based life would be rare? We know that already, but that doesn't change the incomprehensible size of the universe/multiverse. Surely around at least one other star in the entire universe, there is a planet that has a history similar to that of Earth. Then he completely disregards the other things life could be based on, like methane or silicon.

From what I can gather, he's annoyed that everyone doesn't take the word of a single italian scientist (that no-one's heard of) who claims that the universe is too small to house aliens, as something that's indisputable fact?

He's also thinks that people are being dogmatic because they happen to believe the word of multiple scientists, who've first gathered evidence to back their claims, had their papers peer reviewed and their theories accepted or disproven by the worldwide scientific community?

Something like that, I think?
