Elven and dwarven lore bombs are only really appropriate to come in games and possibly books and comics if you ask me. I've personally read a lot of hintage regarding Tevinter and the Qunari, (e.g. Maevaris' role in Tevinter reform and Rasaan being chosen as the Ariqun's successor), in my previews. I also read some things connecting Andraste and the elves some more, so there's that too.

Volume 2 really gave some good hints about Tevinter and Qunari and if DA4 is gonna be in Tevinter involving the Qunari war then this book is a good setup for it for fans of the series. I feel like it sets up Maevaris to be a companion in DA4(hopes) and I can see Rasaan being Ariqun in DA4 time period, her and Arishok(sten) seem to be on the same page so we know 2 of the 3 will be down for a full scale invasion. So Ariqun(rasaan) and Arishok as DA4 bosses seems likely if that direction is followed.

So is the events of the comics with Alister considered canon with the series because I noticed alot of references to the comic, in events and characters a ike. So in world of the thedas is alister canon king?

Oh, I agree. Major revelations should be left to the games themselves, but I was just hoping for more diversity of content.

I think the major dwarven and elven revelations that we haven't gotten in DAO already would have to be part of the game - those plots are tied to the blight and Solas.

The Qunari I think is just Bioware hedging its bets to have freedom to write.

I've heard that Loghain's wife's name has changed from Celia to Maeve.

And it says Marethari’s predecessor died in 8:82 Blessed which would make a Dalish warden about 50 as their father is the Keeper before Marathari.

Huh. That's weird that they would just change her name like that.

Ouch. I read that the father was said to be the Keeper before Marathari, but 8:82 would be way too early. It seems whoever wrote WoT2 isn't good with dates or math. The contradictions I found were regarding Eleanor's new backstory, specifically regarding the age of Bryce's father, the age of the human noble, and whatnot. For any who are interested:

Haven't read all of the book yet. Mostly just skipped around to the parts I found interesting and skimmed a lot. But...

The book is amazingly good about not referencing various character fates. It assumes all companions recruited, but most of the additional information is backstory, expands on things that happen during the game or is written vaguely enough to support multiple worldstates.

For example, Alistairs section is mostly about an inquiry into his bloodline that happens after the events of Origins, but it doesn't mention who is ruling or what Alistair's fate was, it just mentions that the Bannorn wanted to know if he was really Maric's son and we get some background on how Duncan recruited him.

In one of the other chapters, Maric's final fate is very lightly referenced as stories that are considered preposterous because they involve his rumored bastard son. Then there are brief passages that talk about the characters from the comics like Maevaris but leave the actual details about the events of the comics vague.

One thing that has become apparent is that WoT2 is not good on dates.    Not only does it contradict dates given in game but it even contradicts itself.     The dates given for the attack on Felix and his mother is given as winter 9:35 in the entry on Dorian but 9:38 in the entry on Alexius (the latter far better matching what is said about the matter in game).

If Marethari took over in 8:82 then that would mean the Dalish Warden would have been 48 at the start of the fifth Blight, since Mahariel's father was said to have been the Keeper before Marethari and died before they were born.   This seems far too old for the character as presented in game.   I would have put my Warden as not that much older than Alistair (who was 20 at the start of the Blight) and certainly not more than mid-twenties.

It is surprising that a uniform timescale wasn't drawn up that everyone could consult when writing their biographies to ensure consistency both with each other  and with characters as already presented in game.     Failing that, an editor with even a modicum of interest in the game world should have been able to pick up on these inconsistencies by cross referencing interconnected stories.

I sincerely hope the player is not forced down the goody two shoe path and so called "reform" for the Imperium.

Sections about companions are the best in the book, imo. My eyes get teary a bit after reading some of them.

Gaspard is such a badass.

Indeed.
Just read a bit about him from the book

When Celene was first crowned, the Nevarran army pushed into and captured territory in the fields of Ghislain. Gaspard wanted to go take it back but Celene said that if he lost any more than 1000 men battling their army then she would forfeit the territory to them.
Gaspard being pure badass, marched straight up to the town they held, called their commander and coward and challenged him to personal combat for the town. Then of course won

Have a few problems with this book though.
There was apparently A warden named Nolan recruited along with Mhiri from Awakening and took the joining alongside her and survived. I'm pretty sure i'd remember having an extra Warden in Awakening if he was there.
Also there was some King of Ferelden who wasn't a Theirin at all in the steel age, despite all claims they've always been the kings of Ferelden. Some Teyrn named Lewys Mavbrae.? Umm...K

Then theres the extremely cringeworthy stories about Elanor Cousland as a privateer, The praising of Eamon as a completely selfless, patriotic hero whose actions are dictated by the love of his country and not his extremely evident personal ambitions, and ofc leaving out the fact he is a classist scumbag.
And the usual Loghain is an evil traitor to his country blah blah blah...I usually tune out as soon as I see the word

Some interesting tidbits:

The Drakon royal family of Orlais, originate from Tevinter. Kordillus Drakons father was A Tevinter named Septimus -found that very interesting
Also apparently he pushed Orlais into parts of Ferelden as well, never knew that before

Not necessarily. With Zevran, for example, the last "confirmed" sighting was him traipsing off to Ferelden to assassinate the Warden -- Taliesen was sent to make sure he was dead, but since he died no one could actually say if Zev had been killed. But of course, there are ~rumors~ that he's alive and chipping away at the foundations of the Crows. :P

Likewise, "it was never clear" if Sten lost his life.

The book does pretty well at keeping companion fates ambiguous, even as it details their backstories.

It's more likely the fact that the game is in constant flux and has to re-adjust its timeline for what can be done in-game. This is like the Anders to Kirkwall and DA:A timeline issue.

I just don't see why it's such a big deal.

The big deal over the timelines is that the inconsistencies are so unnecessary.   Marethari didn't have to be shown as taking over the clan in 9:82.  There seems nothing that occurs in the history or in game that demands her becoming Keeper that early but the history of Mahariel does require at later date.   Considering the Dalish is their default Warden, you'd think they would have got that sorted out.    Felix could simply have been hurt in 9:38 since the biography for Dorian merely has him dossing around Tevinter for the 2-3 years after escaping from his father in 9:37.    So changing the entry in his biography to 9:38 and then shortening the time after he left his father before heading south would work perfectly well.

Anders was an exception because they wanted to include him in DA2 near the beginning and yet it didn't fit with the events in DAA, so you had to simply ignore it.   You'd think they would have learnt from that and be more careful about continuity.    If you want a believable game world then dates are important, particularly when they are in such a recent past.

Looks like there will be another erratum at the end of the next WoT.

Genetivi is getting up there in age, so we'll have to cut him some slack.  Either that, or the pesky knife protruding from the back of his head sometimes affects his cognitive functions.

IIRC, Warden Alistair briefly mentions the comic events in DAI, so some version of the comics happened even if Alistair is a Warden and not King. One might assume that some version of the comic events also happened even if Alistair is neither a Warden nor King. So, no, Alistair as King is not canon.

Just cover her mouth with your hand to shut it up and it should be okay.

Come to think of it.. I feel this way about Sister Tanner.

She's promised to the Maker regardless.

She's a revered mother.
