One thing that has become apparent is that WoT2 is not good on dates. Not only does it contradict dates given in game but it even contradicts itself. The dates given for the attack on Felix and his mother is given as winter 9:35 in the entry on Dorian but 9:38 in the entry on Alexius (the latter far better matching what is said about the matter in game).
If Marethari took over in 8:82 then that would mean the Dalish Warden would have been 48 at the start of the fifth Blight, since Mahariel's father was said to have been the Keeper before Marethari and died before they were born. This seems far too old for the character as presented in game. I would have put my Warden as not that much older than Alistair (who was 20 at the start of the Blight) and certainly not more than mid-twenties.
It is surprising that a uniform timescale wasn't drawn up that everyone could consult when writing their biographies to ensure consistency both with each other and with characters as already presented in game. Failing that, an editor with even a modicum of interest in the game world should have been able to pick up on these inconsistencies by cross referencing interconnected stories.
Dang. So they didn't even check their own book to make sure it was consistent with itself. That's sad. Also, even Dorian's entry seems wrong. I don't see Felix surviving for 3 years with the taint. The game makes it sound like it happened right before the Breach.
There was no reason for them to set a date for the father Mahariel's death, at all. They should have known doing so would conflict with fan-made characters in Origins. And like you wrote in another post, the Dalish elf is BioWare's canon. So they should have been bothered to at least double check this.
They even made a website with a timeline that documents quite a few historical events. I don't understand why they don't just keep uploading stuff to that and working from it as a guide. Hopefully this doesn't turn into another Zelda "timeline".
It's more likely the fact that the game is in constant flux and has to re-adjust its timeline for what can be done in-game. This is like the Anders to Kirkwall and DA:A timeline issue.
I just don't see why it's such a big deal.
But WoT2 was written after the games were. ![]()
He coukld have married the Queen who was a Theirin.
That's actually a good explanation. There is a codex (The Bannorn) stating that one Fionne Theirin was made Queen during the Steel Age.
Mr Gaider has said that "the Second Lorebook is wrong" about this on Twitter. https://twitter.com/...939476361494528
He just pulled an Abelas.
Though I found it amusing how he was so sure of himself that her name was always Maeve and then BAM, facts.
IIRC, Warden Alistair briefly mentions the comic events in DAI, so some version of the comics happened even if Alistair is a Warden and not King. One might assume that some version of the comic events also happened even if Alistair is neither a Warden nor King. So, no, Alistair as King is not canon.
I can confirm in my Hero of Ferelden (drunken Alistair) playthrough that the banter between Varric and The Iron Bull about Varric meeting both Arishoks still happens. So I guess Varric does the comic book quest regardless... somehow. Either that or the banter is just an oversight, which is much more likely, especially in a playthrough where Anora rules alone.

WHAT? NO WAY!
Hopefully he is also a master of the drunken sword style. Oghren is the drunken axe.
But wait, even a Warden Alistair shouldn't go looking for Maric, right?

Yes, warden Alistair would mention meeting his father in the fade. So maybe a version of the comic quest would happen regardless..
I wonder if that means a Hero who is King of Ferelden would be involved in the same quest then.
And then here's the real question. Does Varric still meet the new Arishok if Alistair died in Origins?
She's promised to the Maker regardless.
She's a revered mother.
All the stuff about Andraste could have been replaced and would have made the book more interesting
That's never stopped me. I'm hot for preacher.
It would stop her.
I see the title, and all I can think of is "Marsha Marsha Marshaaaa!"
Anyway, back to whatever this thread was actually about.
Oh do tell a tale my dear arti. *sits crosslegged ready to listen*
Sorry for not replying at the time, Monkey, but I didn't want to transcribe the whole thing.
So, instead, I'll read a few. Let me know if it works properly, I can retry. Also, make sure to play with the volume on the site if it gives you trouble. It's a bit tricky.
