Oh dear...if this is based upon ability at all, looks like not even blue rocks for me

Actually, I've lucked out and gotten some really nice stuffs.  Slayer - level 22 greataxe, Longbow of the Griffon and Punched by the Maker (which isn't quite as good, but the chance for walking bomb keeps me from salvaging it lol), Lady Jocasta's Revenge and Coiled Strike (?).  And lots and lots of armor...not that I can salvage the old stuff (looks around for Luke, grumbles).   :P

I look at the chests like presents.  Until I flip those cards, I get the joy of anticipation - is it from the cool aunt who gives me exactly what I asked for, or the aunt who thinks what I really need is more iron socks.  Either way - presents!!!   :D

The idea was that you would get a good weapon relative to what you should theoretically be fighting. If you're in a situation where you're not at this item level but you're killing Perilous Dragons (and not being carried by teammates) then I've likely made an error with the distribution values.

Actually some people are lucky to get high level purple drops in their first few chests itself, so they rather not spend gold, thereby keeping their "item level" relatively low. While some may not get certain weapons after spending even 1 million in gold, but in this case due to them spending so much and getting their "item level" high assures(assured) them a purple drop while they may not even have participated in the challenge to begin with.
And given how overly item-dependent DAIMP is, someone getting a Sulevin Blade maybe be able to tackle Threatening/Perilous a bit better than someone who has to do work with a level 15 weapon.

Honestly though, in this one victory chest you guys should've just given everyone an assured purple drop and no one would've complained. N7 Victory chests guaranteed an N7 Weapon. So it's kinda disheartening to see the company that made a decent loot system in ME3MP going backwards from there as far as victory chests are concerned.

With regards to "item level" I spend after every promotion. So that alongside loot chests, I'm probably topped out.

I've only recently started doing perilous.

I got the max strength maul.

As the above poster states, would've been fairer to give everybody a purple really. That way newbies could get a decent start at least.

Got the 2h dragon sword from my chest so I'm happy.  I had pretty crap 2 handers and really wanted one for those classes.  Reaver with it was super fun.

Craft a T3 grip (Thick one iirc) for PbtM go for Crit chance buffs and you'll never look back.  (not forgeting to take the crit based passive for cooldowns)

I got Dagger of the Dragon which is kinda nice but a decent 1H sword would have been better.

@luke firstly thank you for the bonus chest! In my case the outcome was bang on since it gave me the one item I did not have! In terms of fair loot reward distribution it's impossible to please everyone even if everyone got a lvl 24 unique .. am seeing a lot of "I got x item but I don't play that class" well maybe now that you have a killer weapon you should! . If I was a newbie with low to mid loot/cHest rating and got a dragon blue then I'd accept it as motivation to open more chests n get better gear.. if I got a duplicate item its all good as I'd have a carrot on a stick hunting perilous dragons to complete the set.. finally it helped me get out of bed this morning knowing there was a chest awaiting with mystery dragon item! Thanks again!

I'm in the same boat, I got the stupid shield as well. The one item that I really didn't want at all.

I can't catch a break when it come to RNG in this game. Dagger, longsword or the shield, of course i get the crappy shield.

Was a nice gesture to give people an item they didn't have yet though, just wish the dragon shield was actually worthy of the level 24 unique status.

I wouldn't be bummed at all, if I didn't need new daggers so bad.

I Feel really bad for those who killed dragons and didn't get a purple though,... OUCH. Not sure what I'd do if I was in that situation. Pretty harsh.

I'm torn between being thankful for the gesture of the loot reward, and being disgusted that not everyone got the same reward,...

The item you got was relative to your itemscore which is based on how many total items you've received in MP (both chests and treasure room items).

In fairness I got a unique Dagger of the Dragon so I'm pretty happy, but my friend who has been in desperate need of a good weapon got a blue shield =/

The complaint was more on his behalf since he is not on the forums (I probably should have specified as much).

Just out of curiosity, how does this item score work and how does it affect the chances of getting purple items?

I have so far gotten only 1 worthy purple item (staff of the dragon) and around 5 other purple items which are below item level 16. Over the past month since I got the game, I have been religiously farming gold for the large chest and doing occasional dragon runs in hope of getting those purple items so I can finally try out other classes other than mages for perilous. But so far, I have not been lucky at all. In my case, is my item score low or high? My buddies who farm much lesser than I do, have all got their share of worthy purple items (item level 20 and above). And I remember seeing someone in the forum posting that he has not even killed a dragon and yet, got a max level purple maul.

I am asking because I had high hopes on getting a purple item from the victory chest last night, only to find a blue item level 16 maul of the dragon. It is weaker than the other blue mauls I already have.

Maybe this has already been clarified, but would definitely appreciate some clarity on how loots are being distributed so I know if the grind is worth it.

Ok, let's open that chest... (drum roll)

(ok, my sincere apologies to anyone whose chest was sub-optimal, but this remains RNG and as Luke says, the 'accelerator' applies)

Initially disappointed, Greatsword of the Dragon, how was that going to beat my Sulevin Blade? But amazingly it does.

Suitably runed, 357dps (+11 dps on Sulevin) a +41% attack and +8% heal on kill.

Along with my two purple HoK's, Amund's getting 28% Heal on Kill as he dishes it out...

(I'm sure Tamar and the Katari will like it too)

The chest accelerator metrics have probably helped as I've played hundreds of hours and have a preference for opening doors and chests,

though I do little Perilous (12 successful matches so far).

Thanks to the DAIMP team for this,

... Maybe this has already been clarified, but would definitely appreciate some clarity on how loots are being distributed so I know if the grind is worth it.

From my understanding and experience it comes down to sheer quantity of chest opening, and yes, I noticed a loot drop improvement over time.

I think you did just fine.

It was a reward based on itemscore plain and simple.

New players just need to raise their itemscore in preparation for upcoming events.

You will never please everyone.

I'm getting pretty awesome stuff by now, I can't complain. I'm also mostly playing 3 - 4 matches per evening (even Threatening usually, going for Perilous on weekends due to population), and despite doing so since release, I genuinely am in no position to comprehend how disappointed one is when he spends 5 hours a day on the game and gets nothing.

Victory chest held a purple Dragon Greathammer for my Avvar, and some +16 Cunning gloves for my Hunter.

Actually I'm very happy I spent all this time over the weekend, and both of my favourite characters get something useful.

The post they made was misleading.

If they intended on giving people in lower itemscore levels worthless weapons, then they should of said that in the inspirational post about killing 50,000 dragons to get a dragon weapon.

A lot of players worked hard to contribute to the community score and expected a good weapon for their efforts, instead they got a level 14-16 weapon.

I'm all about praise when the devs do something good and right, but they deserve no praise for this.

In fact, I'm so disgusted by the whole thing, I wish they'd just take my dragon loot back. If the rewards aren't equal, then no thank you, you can keep them.

Please don't apologize. I have about had my fill of the whining one way or another. Doesn't seem to matter. Give a guarranteed high item level item to mitigate poor rng luck and get trolled for rewarding people who actually put time into this game. Don't give an item and people complain that you need your end game weapons within the first week of playing.

To the guy complaining that his AW has been doing perilous dragon runs but did not get a good item in the victory chest, lol. If you are doing perilous dragon runs regularly, you should already have your fill of dragon weapons.

I just hope that the guy who has visibly been responsible for reinvigorating this game doesn't get turned off by people whining one way or another who are never satisfied.

I wouldn't say the original post was entirely misleading.  I think the original statement said something along the lines of "dragon weapons for all" NOT "PURPLE dragon weapons for all"

Blue is still a dragon weapon.

It's advertising/marketing.  Everyone builds up their product (*cough* Destiny)

If I recall, even on itemscore, they still had a chance to roll a purple weapon.

Agents!

Congratulations! At this time, we have confirmed that all 5 platforms have reached the original targets set for the Community Challenge portion of the "...There's Fire" the Weekend Event Challenges.  That means that everyone has earned a Victory Chest, to be deployed on Wednesday, May 20.

Original Goals:

PS4 - 8,000 Dragons killed

Xbox One - 5,000 Dragons killed

PC - 5,000 Dragons killed

Xbox 360 - 1, 500 Dragons killed

PS3 - 1, 500 Dragons killed

This boils down to (at least) a grand total of 21,000 Dragons killed by the community so far.

You all hit these targets so quickly, on this Canadian long weekend, that we thought we'd up the ante a bit.

So, starting now, we are setting an additional target for the combined community.

If the community kills 50,000 dragons combined across all platforms before the end of the original challenge deadline (5am PDT Wednesday, May 20), we'll give everyone a Victory Chest with a Dragon weapon.

I believe in you, Agents! Let's kick this #DAIDragonHunt into high gear! :-D

I really don't know what you are trying to prove here,....

I never said the post was a lie, I said it was misleading. I also said, they should have disclosed the fact that lower itemscore players would be receiving lesser weapons.

All your post does is back up what I said.

No, really. It said Dragon weapons. You hoped for the best Dragon weapons. You didn't get them.

That is the account of events as they transpired.

If you were unaware that there are "lesser" Dragon weapons, then I feel with you. For me, I knew they come in different tiers, and from day one I thought "I hope it's gonna be a legendary one at least"

The chest gave me a level 24 Dragon dagger, then the first FC perilous run dropped me the level 24 dragon maul.
Unfortunately I quit the next several games because of speed runners pulling me through doors while I was trying to clear rooms. :(
