So it's come to my attention that threatening is becoming easier and easier for me and i don't have to many issues running it solo or with a pug. But went to try out a perilous run...... What all do i need to be able to effectively run with a group and not feel like i dragging them down?

Experience.

You dont need tons of promotions or the best weapons to run perilous effectively (it helps, but isnt necessary).  As long as you can survive and do damage, your a benefit to the team.

At first you may die a bit, but as long as you use it a learning experience  and adjust to it, it isnt that bad.

Stay sharp and have your weapon ready, that's the best advice I can give you.

Just play a class you're comfortable with, stay with the group and when archers target you, take cover and let them come to you instead of trying to rush them. Only real difference to threatening is that you take more and deal less damage (duh) and you need to be more careful.

1) No matter what character you play, stay with the group.

2) If you're playing virtuoso, keeper, or elementalist make keeping a party barrier up your top priority (unless another mage is doing it).

3) Unless your party has a good virtuoso avoid wide open spaces at all cost.

4) Cover and chokepoints are your friend. Whenever possible draw the enemy to spots you can more easily control.

5) Don't play reaver unless you have decent heal on kill gear or a virtuoso in the party.

Thanks for all the tips and slight encouragement :D. Went and attempted a perilous run on FC beat the dragon no deaths.. only to have the dragon bug out XD. Either way it was a good learning experience.

Hok is your friend.  If your playing a ranged stick to someone with barrier like glue.  Trying to cast barrier on a group of willy nilly archers can be like herding bloody cats.

Fereldan in general and especially the dragon is easier then the other 3 perilous maps i find with all the ladder camping and spawn breaking.

Beware the great white druffalo.

It's just practice.  As other people have said Perilous (as a team) really isn't that hard with one person playing a barrier class.  That person could be you til you get used to it.

Virtuoso is so good.  You could always use Keeper or Elementalist if you haven't unlocked Virtuoso yet.  Just get your passives that reduce cooldown, strengthen barrier and increase duration and you will be golden.  Stick to your team like glue.

Starting as a Barrier Caster is always a good idea anyway, gives you an idea of enemies strength, numbers and spawn points.. I have only myself started playing Perilous a short while ago (never felt I could contribute to the team effectively) and started out with the Keeper, everyone loves a Keeper, just keep those barriers up as much as possible..

And, as stated by others above, use cover and be patient.. :)

the mighty arcane warrior guarantees success.

the fearless avvar requires a skilled player. or 300 promotes.

Had a game lat night with a zither, and elementalist, me as a keeper and an archer.  Our barriers may have hit half once in the game.  The good thing about having otyher barrier casters is it allowed the bard to use other songs like attack speed increase an such.

Shhhhhhh.

Was lurking on twitch yesterday. Someone with about an 130 prestige score was literally farming perilous with a Keeper friend. All they did was abuse the Zither unlimited mana bug. Impossible to die. Granted it took forever to clear, but they got it done.

I had that same worry in the past when i thought i would be a burden for the team, but like me the others were scared and the only classes people played were either AW (to no die) or Elementalist(to get control), my first completed Perilous game was done by 3 Elementalist(i was one of them), there i learned that it was not to just stay still and shoot things out, i had to Move, and a lot!

You just have to play it, after a while you will notice that everything will be fine, you just need to faster your movements and reaction.

Perilous 70% how you move and 30% equipment.

You'll never see team cohesion like you will on perilous.

Stray and die.

Don't be afraid of it. Certainly beats grinding out the last 4 or 5 levels on threatening.

I'm well geared across the board now so I can contribute nicely.

If you seek efficency, you need to play with friends. Pugs are inefficient, threatening and perilous alike.
Also, up until the moment you have unlocked high-end gear and acquired a decent number of promotions not to go down easily, you will most likely be at your best playing the support role. Harsh as it may seem, don't except to be the group's glass cannon on Perilous right away.
Listen to the advice from more experienced players. If they don't give you, ask them, especially for builds. Respect treasure door policies.

the main problem imho of threatening and perilous being bad in pugs: the desciption for their difficulty couldnt be any worse

lvl 15+ might work for perilous, but needs good players AND gear AND promotes (at least 2 of these prereqs)

What SpaceV3gan said!

Also, not only is T-baggin allowed, it is encouraged... Tis better to give than receive ;)

I guess more serious advice would be to know when to disengage a target or targets you know you will not survive against.

Oh and if you think those pesky arrow chuckers are bad below perilous, you will soon know pain.

If you go ranged counter-archer is recommended. Make sure you can kill them though in short order.

I will go to any lengths to murder those little turds. Same goes for wraiths.
