Myself, I prefer to "headcanon" my protagonists as much as possible. Otherwise I would be playing Bioware's character rather than my own. This is one of the reasons I am not overly thrilled to play established characters with canon backgrounds - like Luke Skywalker or Geralt of Rivia.

I disagree I like to RP my protagonists in different ways but headcanon (especially basically writing my characters complete past)? no then I would be writing fanfiction

And this isn't Skyrim

This just sounds like an excuse and its shame that many players are using it, I guess we can write off Origin stories for DA4 because it would damage the precious "headcanon" (I'm sure Bioware will like that one)

Ah somehow his name is always into the BSN......he is cited more often of the Inquisitor, some sort of unaware desire i wonder?

Because they all know that he is a better character than the Inquisitor ever was

I was disappointed World of Thedas did not at least touch more of the backgrounds of the inqusitior's family, clan, or group history. They could have at least gave us some background info on Bann Trevelyan or Trevelyan family(still waiting to see there unique heraldry), House Cadash, The Dalish Clan, or anything that we can tie to inquisitor. I use headcanon for all my canon characters but I still like to see some connection to there past either in the form of family or whoever fits that role best.

Because they don't want to damage the players headcanon (obviously went the Skyrim route here)

Or more likely because these threads or posts like it keep popping up...

Hence people restate their opinion on the series or it's protagonist positive or negative.

It especially doesn't help when some posters in said threads or in general continually insult Bioware for it's flaws real or perceived while being extremely biased towards The Witcher and CDPR to the point that when it's flaws are pointed out they either ignore them, excuse them, get overly defensive and/or mocking and accuse critics of being Bioware fanboys seemingly ignorant to the fact that they themselves are acting like fanboys.

Then you're more likely to get trolls/negative opinions because people realize they weren't looking for a productive discussion in the first place but merely a soapbox to hate on Bioware and shrill CDPR.

Lmao @ all this talk of age differences being a such a huuuge dealbreaker. Do you even people??

So Eleanor Cousland is mentioned in WoT? Are any of the other relatives/friends from the other origin stories mentioned? Mainly, anything from the City Elf origin?

Shianni has her own entry, at least.

I agree with the this isn't Skyrim part. I like to have some headcanon stuff for my characters but I play the game not so I can imagine my character's life but play it. I understand the game is just one part of our characters story but everything should not be headcanon. Elder Scrolls is the game you want to play if you want a a character whose backstory leading up to the games intro is all headcanon, Witcher is a game if you want to play a pre-established character, and Dragon Age is marriage of both, each race has some different backstory while pre-established to a point it is able to be molded to how we want our character. The lack of identity that is seen in game between each inquisitor is a con for the game, yes we do have a few(literally can count on one hand) points we can use dialogue to establish our background. While that is cool, the pay off from it is not as great as playing a origin. But if this happened for example:

-Telling Josie her background and at some point in the story we meet characters from our background who reacted to us how we described to Josie it would establish our character's more and please the headcanon folks.

-Same with wartable, the very last mission of the chain should have had something similar to that wedding mission were we can go somewhere and interact with our actions.

-That way the game has a ingame interactive result to each dialogue choice, Dragon Age is a series of choices and a opportunity was missed by not at some point in skyhold having the choices we decided to make concerning our background happen in some fashion.

Background is the main thing that separates each Warden or Inquisitor race wise and lack of properly displaying it makes all the characters feel more like a Hawke. WOT2 was at least a chance to establish the background of the people close to us, doing so would not have hurt headcanon but instead kinda of lets us know the types of characters that was involved in our background. Learning the history of the Trevelyan father would not have helped more then hurt, the human noble character and etc for the rest.
