Maybe. To be fair, I consider a friendly zombie called Bob following the protagonists around to be a reasonably entertaining premise.
But the combat does sometimes put me to sleep, and I'm still a little resentful towards the absence of the creation and entropy skill trees (among other things), so maybe I'm just taking my bad mood out on the game play.
I share your resentment regarding the lack of creation and entropy skills. My favourites were the glyphs, hexes and death cloud.
Playing the MP character zither has some skills that are similar to the old creation skills...but its just not the same
I prefer being weird. I'm allergic to conventionality.
I enjoyed spell casting in Origins, on occasion, but even that could be frustrating now and then.
If I could combine Bioware's character crafting with Skyrim combat, I would.
Don't look now, but we agree on something.
I'm sorry I don't mean to Necro my own thread but.... what?
Skyrim doesn't have combat. Skyrim with melee weapons reminds me of Half Life and crowbars. Oh occasionally you'll see a kill screen, but it's completely random. I'm not trying to dump on your game, I liked Skyrim. Until I played this... no other open world RPG had combat like this. THIS is how you fight a dragon.
(EDIT: I forgot to mention because this actually gets asked a lot.... no there isn't a single cutscene here. Everything that happens in this video is live action gameplay. Even when the Dragon flies up with you holding on for dear life. Sadly the video doesn't show the Dragon will either shake you off to your death OR you could get him weakened and he'll crash land. Also before the explosive magic attack, the Dragon is possessing your teammate, if you don't stop him your companion will start fighting you)

I don't think Skyrim's combat is perfect (even when ignoring how buggy the game can be), but it's an example of RPG combat that I enjoyed a little more than DAI. My favorite way to play was as a sneaky sniper, though, so that might be a factor. There was suspense and and that feeling when I eliminated a large group of enemies before any of them even knew I was there. I don't think DA has even done the sneak/stealth ability quite as well.
I'm not extremely familiar with Dragon's Dogma's system. I did play it briefly, and I actually found the combat very challenging.

Once you find the chair to tell your companions to shut the **** up and level up high enough to mix classes the game gets much better. Plus with Dark Arisen they added fast travel. I know the game looks rough but honestly it became one of my greatest RPG experiences of all time.
It also gets a bonus for class mixing. Whenever I can make my Dexterity + Sorcery builds in a game I get super happy. But yeah I kind of like DA:I combat but honestly if they want to go with more action style combat then I say go full action combat instead of half and half. But that's coming from someone who thinks Dark Souls is the greatest game of all time. So I might not be the best person to ask.
