I understand the concept of the weapon being underwhelming off host unless you're playing a kit with a lockdown power like stasis & sub net or a stunning power like energy drain or sabotage. Still you likely never see this weapon out in the wilds and I cannot for the life of me figure out why.

We're talking Claymoresque damage with multiple shots and no refire delay like the Wraith. Insanely accurate even without the smart choke on the weapon which opens up more mod slots for the weapon. Hell I would almost advise against smart choke because it's so damn accurate across the map. Really, really high stagger chance on pretty much anything that has a head, a charged shot generally staggers a Brute and certainly will stagger anything humanoid. Ideal CQ because of how great the thing is hipfiring it. Generally with every other shotgun I will ADS all the time except maybe on Atlases or Praetorians with this weapon you're almost better off without ADSing unless you have a fairly long range target and it is highly accurate.

The drawbacks of course are no piercing on the weapon which means you have to mailslot Guardians and that double hits aren't going to happen for you which will hurt the DPS a bit BUT you can still generally spam more shots in a short period to even that out. Particularly perfect for a melee kit because you can put on the omniblade and not worry about sacrificing a mod slot for smart choke AND it really helps if you want to do something stupid like IDK melee a phantom. Charged shot to the face staggers her and the melee finishes her off before she can even sword swipe.

Love that gun!  Favorite character for it would have to be the Havoc.

I only use about 4 or 5 shotguns and it's one of them. It's not bad, a little tricky off host but still not bad. I use it on Talon Merc Robin Hood off host because I like punishing myself completely.

I would say that it's good, but not awesome. As you said, it has flaws. No piercing is a pretty big one, and taking down Atlases and Praetorians with the Graal takes a very long time.

A good fit for meleeing with krogans though, regarding both efficiency and lore.

For BSNers any weapon that can't double hit is going to suffer. Other than that I think the offhost thing is probably the only reason you don't see it used more, as it is pretty devastating, especially for its low weight. Probably my 2nd favourite weapon on the QFE. Charge> CB> BOOOOMboomboom> cancel reload with incinerate= dead things. It also staggers pretty much everything it hits. It's like a GPS that sounds 1000x better and gets headshots complete with delicious headgibs.

Killing guardians with it isn't even particulalry hard due to the multiple projectiles in a tight pattern giving you a bigger margin for error than with either single projectile weapons or standard shotguns. Aim slightly low at closer ranges and adjust up based on distance. It has plenty of range without smart choke, and becomes a sniper rifle with it.

I learned to love it all over again the past few days - I was doing the challenge - and everything the OP says is true.

One thing, off-host when charged shots become iffy, the uncharged shots still seem to work well, and although they do less damage you can, of course, fire them faster.

I like this tech: He understands!

Kalros approved.

Graal is ancient belch for "I'll kill you". It's an anti moster gun, by design: it doesn't get any more awesome than this.

I love the gun. It's a beast.

Compared to other projectile shotguns, graal is the weakest off-host. GPS homes in and venom has good AoE. Off-host, I'd pick venom > GPS > graal.

On host, venom > graal > GPS.

I love this gun, and I agree with NuclearTech76 on pretty much everything; that said, it is the one gun that suffers compared to its lore description: were are the deep wounds that cause massive bleeding? Where are the blades that cause thresher maws internal bleeding? I want the gun you describe, game!

Still an awesome gun to use though! TchchchchchchchcBOOOM they're dead! AHAHAHAHAHAH!

Very good weapon with adepts and the Valkyrie.

It's like a Claymore that shoots phantoms that stick in enemy faces. Then sets them on fire.

My only issue with it is I've had far too many off-host matches where it took a whole 6 seconds after releasing my charged shot for it to actually fire. That kind of delay is absolutely absurd, and will get you killed. Otherwise, I quite like it.

I really like the Graal, it's a proper Krogan weapon, has a satisfying oomph and the headshots from this thing are so amazing, but no cover piercing and rather crappy damage vs armor (even though it ignores armor DR) makes it a lot more situational than hitscan weapons.

I like it more than GPS though, just because of the sweet headshots.

Nah, incendiary cheese for the win there. When you hit armor, throw warp then about two clips of the graal and walk away, dot does the rest.

I find it to be annoying off host but it's a lot less so on kits with stasis or sub net. Sabotage is also damn good with the weapon as well as it's a perfect stun.

Graal and Striker are my standard Krogan Soldier weapons. I play offhost almost exclusively, too.

Not all characters can exploit the incendiary glitch, and you have to destroy the shields first.

I remember a plat solo I did with a Graal krosol. Despite equiping disruptor rounds, I found that destroying Atlases' shields was quite long.

This is the understatement of the day for me.  I like most of the shotguns, but for some reason I cannot STAND the GPS.  I would rather Eviscerate than use that garbage.  Anyone else?  Probably just me.

I used to use it on my Batarians (it fits their concept perfectly) with Incendiary ammo but since they are technically Krogan weapons i dont get to use it much anymore since im willingly restricted by theme

GPS is one of my favourite shotguns. Good weight/dps ratio, enough ammo, excellent range... it's my favourite weapon for the GI.

Because it doesn't get double hits. Even the crappiest of hitscan weapons can get double hits if you equip piecing mod and definetely if you equip AP or Drill (and Graal does not benefit as much from them, apart from the raw damage increase)

Yes. The other projectile weapons suffer from the same issue.

But I agree with the point that the Graal should do bleeding damage, like the Kishock if not more.

I also love the Graal, and it might be my favorite shotgun to use on Krogans, especially the Soldier and the Adept, because both have powers that you can use to bump up your armor damage a lot.  It's also kind of good on the Justicar.  It is wonky off-host though, and not just because of slower projectile travel speed.  I have noticed that the spread sometimes varies off-host.  Sometimes you can one-shot headshot mooks by hipfiring across the map, and sometimes you need to ADS or you will barely hit with half the projectiles.  Also, as marksmad noted, you get a lot of "blanks" on charged shots off-host.  Few things are more frustrating than lining up a perfect charged headshot on a Phantom, letting loose, and getting no damage.

Kroguards Choice!

Release charged shot during biotic charge, follow up with a short burst on arrival and deal with the rest by headbutting or related MRAAAW!-activities.
