It could be that the cord is too long.  The connection for your mic depends on the distance it is hooked up to the PC, much like lag depends on the distance you are from another player, geographically.   ;)

Not that I care but you're looking mighty stupid by repeating that lame old joke. It wasn't really funny in the beginning either.

What if my instagram is too far?

Instagram touches all corners of the globe, my friend.  Except for Detroit.  No one wants to touch Detroit.

Guys I also have this problem with a Razer usb headset. It works perfect with skype steam the new 1to1 private chat on origin and every other game... it just messes up and only catches every other word on ME3 MP only... The unique original posted about problem seems to be directly related to usb type headsets and the config in ME3. Hope this helps... As of the moment i still go unheard by my peers in game and im searching all my old boxes and draws for a single mic with a jack i can plug in as my main means of beating this issue. Hope this helps wish i had found a better solution here :'(

People actually talk to each other in this game?

Since I've got the matching sound-card, I figured I may as well go with the headset:

http://uk.creative.c...-gaming-headset

Maybe not the greatest cans ever but they're not bad - especially for the price.

Heh, I had the same till recently. Had to change because it put too much weight on the top of my head, but otherwise I was rather satisfied as well. And yes, it works quite well in MP; I can definitely say that of the several people I used to voice-chat with on a regular basis, you always came across loudest and clearest. Might not be the headset, though, but just you and your charming accent.  :)

A little recent experimentation on my part suggests that the new Origin voice chat does seem to have an effect on the microphone settings applied in-game, and these settings also appear to persist after the voice chat itself is over.

I have tried 3 different mics since 2012, and none of them worked in the long run. So maybe I can tell you which ones do not work? :P

And yet when we're in the lobby how often can I only hear every other word you say?  Then you usually do... something?... and it works fine during the match.

FWIW I use a Steelseries headset with retractable mic and it seems to work just fine.

It's cause the PTT in ME3 requires you to be a certain loudness. Since the YETI feeds audio back into the microphone I turn down the pickup because it sits next to my super tornado fans on my computer and is loud. In match I lean over to it.

I have a turtle beach PX22. It works on everything, Playstation, Xbox, PC. You can even plug your smart phone into it and listen to music or talk on the phone while playing/watching something

Yeah, I think I have those too. For ps3, xbox, pc and ps4.

I have a razer usb headset that works, though I never talk because the quality of voice chat in this game is abysmal (but YMMV, my hearing is not exactly normal range so idk, might be better than I think it is)

RAZER MEGALODON + RAZER DEATHADDER + RAZER DEADSTALKER = TOO MUCH RAZER!!!!! JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJA

For a while I used a Sennheiser PC 350 gaming headset and it worked without a hitch. Then I decided I want to use real headphones, so I switched to a proper condenser mic + gooseneck + preamp combo.

I just use a stupid little stand-up desk mic like this instead of a headset.

(I don't like using headsets because I live in the boonies and would rather blast my speakers.)

Probably has nothing to do with the mics in question, but with how ME3/Origin interacts with the audio interface.

It would be nice if it were that simple, but in Windows there are several layers of audio interface and they are generally not fully aligned, so that - for example - a USB mic goes through the USB layer, the USB audio layer, and which parts of which layers are presented to ME3's audio interface can be different depending on the exact device driver in use. Which in turn depends on the exact device, which is why some devices work fine with ME3 and some don't.

That's true as far as USB mics go, but my guess is that Deerber has tried ordinary mics as well, and with them there's no difference how the program stack handles them. Although it has to be said that many cheap PC mics have insufferably low volume.

I have used the microphone integrated in my webcam for a very long time at first, and succesfully so. Logitech webcam. Then it started going mickey mouse. So I changed it to a microphone that I can't really remember and it's been dumped now, and it didn't last lont till the mickey mouse struck again. Lastly, I've tried the Zalman I'm using, which lasted about a couple days before going mickey mouse all again. It works perfectly outside of ME3. I just said **** it after that.

Ordinary RCA connector mics can also have some variation across hardware. For example, the Realtek audio stack handles RCA/phono devices before their signal is passed to the game audio layer. And the pickup sensitivity of condenser microphones varies greatly, while having no direct relation to the cost/quality of the mic. So I still think the simplest solution for many of us would be to use the same hardware that's known to work for others.

I'm also still interested to hear stories of fully functional USB devices, since it was my attempt to use my Logitech webcam that led me to start this thread.

This is one area where consoles blow PCs right out of the water. The $5 headset that comes included in the Xbox package works fine for voice chat literally out of the box.
