Back in the day with all the speculating as to what the Reapers' motivation could be after Sovereign's "we are beyond your comprehension", finding out that a large deal about the Reapers' plan was to make people smoothies as Reaper sex equivalent already was a flop in my opinion.

In ME1, Reapers were an ominous, overwhelmingly powerful enemy with a motivation beyond organic understanding. In ME2 they went to being overwhelmingly powerful space-rapists and by ME3 they were space-4chan's troll legions made form to move IRL users to the wastebin folder.

I didn't really like what Mass Effect 2 did with the reapers either, but I did like that they stayed out of the story for the most part. They were barely involved in any of the missions. I wouldn't know what people thought of reapers back in the day though, I didn't play ME1 until a few months before ME2. Still, even before there were any explanations to disappoint us, the whole "ancient evil trying to destroy the universe" storyline felt a tad generic.

Nope. Great in the sense of "really, really good and I loved it", and I will stand by this. I thought this thread needed something other than the usual, tiring ME3 ending circlejerk of hate that has been going on for years now, even if just a single dissenting opinion.

Eh, a circlejerk of hate is no worse than the tiring circlejerk of love praising the ending.

Fair enough, I guess playing the games in a different order can give you a different impression on the Reapers.

Hope he does well, will always be grateful to him for his role in the creation of the ME series, as well as his work on the original KOTOR.

Both are bad, but breaking up either circle requires people to actually say what they like or didn't like about the ending.

Its been done. Not sure if either side has bothered acknowledging it and moving on. Dedicated places of discussion are extremist in regards to sharing and accepting opinions.

Where have you seen this? Because I know of no such thing ever occurring.

I still have to suffer through people shitting on ME3 in places that literally have nothing to do with it besides being video game related, and that goes for far more places than just the BSN. I'm not saying people should change their opinions to please me, but it's tiring as f*ck to read the same bitter diatribes for years on end, often paired with the implication that anyone who enjoyed it must be an idiot. If I deliberately open a thread about the ME3 ending, then FINE; I know what I'm getting into. But it's frustrating when the same argument about the ending still infests completely unrelated things years after the fact.

Without starting what might be an avalanche, I'm curious what it is you like about the ME3 ending.

I liked it as is, and found it emotionally fulfilling and a fitting end to the story started in ME1.

Good for him. Good luck and power to him.

(As for the ME3 ending, it doesn't look we'll ever get the full story behind that. But what is done is done. And it's old water.)

When you say as it is, I take it you mean pre-EC? Cool. While I really didn't enjoy the ending (in fact, I loathed it enough that I couldn't replay the series, and ME3 has the distinction of being the only Bioware game since KoTOR for which I bought no DLC), I didn't have any issues with it from a closure POV (or even from a Shepard dying POV). But I've never been one to care for epilogue slides. Honestly, I thought Bioware was entirely right to say that almost the entire game was an ending for the ME series - I found every major mission to resolve one outstanding plotpoint.

I did like it pre-EC, but it is better now post-EC.

Not hard considering KotOR didn't have DLC.

Huh. I'm surprised I didn't know about that until now. Maybe it wasn't really advertised like that.

Casey Hudson, sounds so familiar.   Wasn't he the guy who locked himself and one other person in an office, thereby shutting out the rest of the story development team in order to come up with the very A-B-C ending Mass Effect fans had been reassured all throughout the trilogy would never happen?

Yeah, I think that's him.

It was just hot air to stall for time because the writers had nothing yet. If it was actually beyond organic understanding then it is also beyond the understanding of the writers and now the antagonist has no motive which would be ****** stupid.

If ME1 was better written they probably could have done some foreshadowing there instead of a thunderous monologue where Shepard literally asks what their motives are and is told that he is too dumb to get it lol.

I agree that ME2's big Reaper reveal was bad, really bad. Whoever was responsible for that just didn't get it.

Anyhow ME2 makes a good case that the characters, setting, and background conflicts were all more interesting things than the Space Squids and the series would have been better off if that had been dropped after the first game.

Personally I think that if they were going to do a Reaper arc across a trilogy they had already screwed up the plotting with ME1 and blown their load far too early to put it crudely.
